Which/What gauges should I get? [Merged 12-6]

My first boost gauge was a mechanical Autometer -30/30 and it never failed after 6 years, I do recommend replacing the cheap nylon tubing that it comes with and run a rubber line. The nylon cracks after a few heat cycles and creates MULTIPLE boost leaks.

Think of mechanical gauges and digital gauges like clocks. You can read a digital gauge blasting a number in your face going down the track without much concentration, reading a mechanical gauge almost makes you focus on it and not the road. Some people are better at it than others and if it's what you're used to then get one but I thought I was good at reading mine and after going to a digital boost reading it's so much more convenient.

Everyone has their preferences but my digital AEM gauge is a lot easier to quickly glance at and know exactly what my boost levels are at. They might seem expensive but the best thing about gauges is they aren't platform specific, you can find them used in good condition for half the price on ANY car forum.

For a WB I recommend to steer clear of any AEM unit because logging them in Link, if that's something you plan on getting in the future, is a PITA. The Innovate LC1 or MTX-L's are great and can be found for $100 - $150 lightly used.

If you can't afford an autometer gauge you have no business modding the car.

Ha ha, yeah - autometer is going to be among the cheapest - but then I don't buy Ebay china junk.

I think one of the other benefits of mechanical vs electric is the sweep. You get 270 degrees vs only 45 with electrical - but I think that is only for the non expensive kind. I have Defis in my Evo which use senders but have the large sweep faces, but they cost more then average. I do like the simplicity of the Autometers in my Eclipse too.

It really depends on the look you're going for....boost gauge I prefer aem truboost or defi gauge for the boost....wide and definitely aem as well it's just great looking and multi-functional...hope this helps

What I always run... Autometer Cobalt

I will go against most in this thread, I would not recommend Autometer. I have used multiple Autometer gauges in the past, I am able to properly check their accuracy & I have been less then impressed with all the ones I've had. Some being out of spec when I got them, some losing accuracy over time & even the ones that were "usable" were nothing special. These are their mechanical gauges, never tried their electronic gauges.

I would high recommend Defi gauges. I have had zero issues with mine & they are far more accurate then any Autometer gauge I've ever run. I have several buddies with Defi as well (which I also verified accuracy) & they all think the same.

The new Innovate electronic gauges look pretty good as well but I've haven't had first hand experience with them.

Hmm I will definitely have to check into the defi gauges, I already bought an autometer ultra lite 4308 that is a -30/+45 boost gauge. But my boost gauge is the thing that I want to be dead-on accurate. The rest I can handle not being spot on, to an extent LOL.

Thanks for the opinion daren_p! Will keep that in mind
