Where are the FWDs at????

Well i still got both my FWD GSTs and one still down and the other halfway runs LOL, but i do plan to get both beating my Sti and other cars as well, so ya. Plan to get a Quiafe LSD and all that other goodies, just need to continue saving, ill have to come back and read every post. But yay go FWDs!!!

You will rip that diff to shreds. I promise you!! Get a wavetrac or quafie. You wont ever worry about them..... Im switching to auto because once I went over 650whp those trans started to shred. But my quafie has came through it every time. I hope to see you at OSW in dec for war of the imports, youve got 5 months to be ready.

If you break an axle i doubt you will hit the wall. And I highly doubt you will break one past 2nd gear. The only time I broke an axle it was at the start line and the lsd trys to compensate, meaning the car wouldnt move so we pushed it back to the trailer.

I just blew the trans last night, hopefully i can dig in the sofa for some extra change and get a built/lsd trans!

26x9.5x16 QTP's. I cut anywhere from 1.7-1.8 60fts consistently with a stock open diff tranny with these slicks. Since they are not a true slick and are street legal, I use them on the street too. They hook nice in 2nd.

Is it safe to run tires that much wider than the rim? I thought you should only go an inch over the wheel width. I have a set of the stock swirlies in my shed. Can I throw some 24.5x9x16 slicks on them to use at the track? They are ugly but they are free and I don't go to the track often... actually never so far LOL.

The tire/rim width ratio is more important for good handling, not so important when drag racing. Granted, it's still a good idea to have a wide rim so the tire stays flat on the ground, but a DOT slick isn't going to handle corners that great anyway.

I havent had any problems doing 160+ with them on the street or 140 at the track. The rims are within the recommended wheel size for the slick so it should be all good.

I haven't posted much in this thread, mostly over in the 14b thread. I've got a 14b FWD setup, finally got it out to the track for the first time. The track was pretty empty early on, filled up after 8-ish. I got 7 runs in. The slicks were brand new so I think I had to break them in on the first few passes. Driving on them is VERY different from the street tires. The car still spins through 1st and I have to pedal it quite a bit (still need to get a solenoid and hook up boost by gear). 2nd gear on, it dead hooks and goes straight as an arrow. I started out pulling high 1.9 60's, and ended the night with a best of 1.882. The first pass was a 12.85, followed by a couple 12.7s, then a 12.59. Then my best pass of the night (I'll upload the slip soon):

60' 1.932
330 5.392
1/8 8.118
MPH 89.43
1/4 12.477
MPH 114.88

The following pass was the 1.88, but something was off a bit, ran 12.57, not quite sure why it slowed down, maybe just shifted a hair slower, who knows. Best 1/8 mph was 90.02. All in all, I can't complain, first time ever driving a FWD on slicks (I've run slicks on my Mustang a million years ago). Nothing broke, drove it to and from the track on "pump" gas. From looking at the DSMtimes list, this should put me about #7 on the 14b FWD no nitrous list.

Here's a link to a video of one of the passes (of course it's the only run I lost)

^^^ Very nice.

I'm getting killed by my 60 foot times. I see a method where they use the ebrake for out of the hole launch. Can someone explain how to do that.
I'm still a beginner 1/4 mile tracker

You could reduce the timing at the launch? This allows you to launch with higher rpms and boost while keeping the power down. (stop that nasty spinning problem of yours in first) Simple switch going to your "set timing wire" (by the battery) that you release after launch does this easily. Setting it up on a on micro switch for first gear works great as well. This and a few other "tricks" were good for 3 tenths on a close friends FWD 2g DSM. Of course until you get that LSD going nothing will work very well.

Well. Although i've postsed to state "i'm here" i wanna pop in and speak about my new setup and my thoughts for driveline mods this winter

I just put on a PT6776RS DBB turbo and although the "hit" isn't there like it was on my 57 to break the tires lose in 3rd gear the pull is definintely improved because ithe other night before i exploded my friction disk i was pulling on a 2008 kawasaki 636 from 70-105 repeatedly and we use t5o be close with him inching forward :)

My biggest let down these days is boost recovery between gears (even with nitrouse) when looking at my logs i shift 3 time (mercy shift into 4rth) each shift costs me .3 seconds of data rate frames so that's almost .9 seconds in the 1/4 mile and boost has to recover each time

I keep seeing more and more about people finally pulling the DSM autos through power reliably i thought i'd see what all is needed as far as a cash outlay to get one ready for say a 10second pass?

I gather
End Clutch Kit
Line pressure MOd
Shift box Mod

am i missing anything besides flashing onto the converter with nitrous?

I was thinking of pulling my quaife LSD out of my TRE stage 2.5 and putting it in a built auto (my haltech can control the lckup torque converter from the 2g trans) but what all is really needed on the 2g autos?

I swore i'd break 11's this year but i've never beenon the track once :( but the new turbo and today putting in a new clutch has me ready to see what she'll do some where instead of just commuting in it.

ON an auto trans would i benefit more from a 24 or 26" slick (on manual the 26 makes the gear gaps too large, i feel this way from experience) but i'm not sure if the larger would be better on the auto or not???

what boost was this at, and what is the weight of your car? Have you had the car on a dyno?

I've just got my HX40 setup put in along with a Shep built trans with Quaife LSD. Right now I'm battling heat issues as I daily it, but Ive ordered some race tape and sheet metal aluminum and will fab up some ducting. Also going to wrap my FP mani and O2 housing as well as put my JMF heat shield back on. I just put a slim fan in on the A/C side yesterday and that helped out a ton. I couldn't even drive without running the heat beforre. Now its just a little hot and not overheating. With the addition of all the rest of the things I'm going to do it should be great. If not, I also have a triple core Mishi X-line radiator coming in too.

After I break in the Southbend kevlar disc I should be ready to get my tune on. I just haven't been able to find my dsmlink cable since I moved. I'm getting pretty frustrated tearing through boxes looking for it.

Anyways this setup is all on a bone stock 7 bolt. Its a Mitsubishi remanufactured block that I got out of a warranty. I've only put 30k on it, so she's still young and ready to put in some work I hope.

I have some FP 272 cams that will put in as well, just need to get my timing belt kit that was shipped to my parents house instead of here.

Around 24psi peak, dropping to 15 by 6k on E85. I haven't weighed it but I'm guessing it's around 2400 lbs without me in it, figure 2600 race weight. Here's a link to my build blog:

It made 321whp/336tq on the dyno.

Just thought I'd throw a few pics up of the new axles from terhune race works. Will really be testing these out at our labor day weekend races. So far things feel great, install went smooth and man these things are beefy. The bars are a whole 5mm thicker than stock and made of a much stronger metal. If anyone is looking for a set just let me know and I can give you the number to call. Hope you all have a blast at the shootout, wish I could have went this year. The wife and I are already talking about going next year.

I just got my turbo from EverGreenTurbos today, pretty much a decked out s372. He clipped the turbine and lightend the compressor wheel and also got me a 1.00ar 3''vband inlet 4''vband outlet housing. Moran Racing Injectors sent me their 2400cc injectors for a partial sponsorship till 2012. Heres a clip, the cng injectors are (IDC and FIC) if you talk to these companys they wont tell you that their injectors arent race purpose only built injectors. Moran's are built for racing only! Moran Atomizer Injector 235lb vs 212/225lb Competitor - YouTube

Extreme as always hooked us up with some great parts as well, to include pte46 gate and 195gallon/h pump.

Im going to do my best and get this car ready for some 9sec passes in October. I plan on racing IFO in Gainesville and Import ShowDown in GA.

Finally got into the 12's last night AURAI!! I was actually in competition and had a tuff race against of course a honda. We are over populated with them here LOL altough there are some fast ones, most just make loud noise going down the track LOL. I was able to pull a [email protected] with a 1.972 60'. We have one more day to raced today so hoping I can either match my new best or even better beat it. I'm going to try and launch alittle harder and ad some more boost on the mid to top end. I was tuned great for 22lb boost with great a/f and no knock. Going to see if I can get around 24-26lb boost today. Ill boost some vids when the weekends over. God bless have a great labor day and be safe.

well just came from the track with my 97 GST and i ran a

Well was able to finish the weekend off by backing up my 12.948 pass with 2 more. I was able to pull a [email protected], and then the best to date a [email protected]. I think it would have been fast, but about half track my boost/fp vaccuum line popped off. Causing me to let off the throttle which is why I only hit 100mph. This pass was with 25lb boost, time to zip tie all the vac lines LOL.

how's the car hooking? I see you cut a 1.9 60ft. That's getting there! Good times.

I deffinetly got work to do there. Spins alittle in first but clean through second and third. I've got tire pressure at 11psi, I think I just gotta learn to heat the tires up beater. Other than that car feels amazing. We got 2 more track days this year to try again. The thing that sucks is they are day races. The reason that sucks is it's hot out here. Our night races are really the best, but won't see those again till next year.

Congrats on the times! It wasn't very long ago that we had pretty much identical times, now I've got some catching up to do. :thumb:

Hey guys I'm not anywhere close to some of you, but trying to lay down some better numbers this coming year. Any suggestions to my setup I would love to break low 13's to high 12's in 2011. I just picked up a spare gst for parts and going to use the 16's off it for some drag radials or slicks. Not sure which to get yet because I'm still running open diff. Also our track here sucks it's slick as hell which explains my horrible 60' time on my slip. I think I have a trap speed for mid to low 13's. So what would you all suggest open to opinions. Kk shootz

Our time slips are nearly identical:
You: Me: Difference:
60' 2.454 : 2.439 +0.015
1/8th 9.677 : 9.508 +0.169
MPH 78.160 : 79.490 -1.330
1/4 14.572 : 14.336 +0.236
MPH 101.230 : 101.170 +0.060

You certainly accomplished your goals and more!!! That is very impressive! I'm still just trying to get into the 13's. I've got the MPH, just need the traction. My Quaife is in the transmission, but somehow I lost the "reverse shift lever shoe" and am trying to find a new one so I can get the trans back in my car and get to the track.

Has anyone had any succes with a fwd auto? I want to give it a shot in my 2g but not sure how well would it do. How hard would it be to get It to hook? I was thinking the same as getting a 5 speed just more consistent since its auto. If anyones done this before I would appreciate some tips, and if its worth doing the swap the car is at about 450hp.
Thanks.
