Where are the FWDs at????

wow anti_lag great run there, congrats!!!!!

As for launch RPM discussed above.. I'm guessing you're using slicks? When i was on an open diff it didn't matter even when i went to 26x9.5x15" MT's (from my M&H 24x8.5x15's) I was still roasting them in first and second gear would give a nasty one wheel wonder for the crowd (depressing :( ) but that was on 12psi.. I started messing around even more and ended up with them at about 7 psi before they hooked up nicely. NOw i thought they were gonna peel off the rims at those pressures but they held LOL And all my launches were between 4200 and 5250 RPM using the 2-step to adjust where i was launching.... I found that preloading my clutch/driveline was only abusing the disk getting it so hot that sometimes it wouldn't hold in third gear with an ACT 2600 (after preloading and riding out the launch)

Then with some advice from some other fast FWD guys with the tires at 7psi, I got up to the line (still a long time ago when i ran my first 12.0x) didn't use the e-brake, didn't use the 2 step.. I just got up in the 5kPRM range when the first yellow sprung, and on the last one i didn't ride the clutch out or technically dump it i did what was told to me and "let it out as fast as you can without your foot coming off the pedal) that seemed to be the best way to ride it out a little, but not heat it up, and it didn't shock things too hard to worry about either.. That run felt awefully slow because i left all the extra little steps out of my normal launching routine.. and to my surprise it was 12.08 @ 119mph (still spun some but nothing like before)

now the main thing that made launches easier was the installation of a quaife LSD :) even on street tires if i launch below 4200-4500 RPM i'm bogging hard..mo0st time i have to really ride it a little on street tires starting at 5000RPM on the 2-step.. A while back i got to try a buddies 24" slicks (which are a lot nicer on the gap between 2nd and 3rd gears) and although i was only playing in an old industrial area the launched i could pull were unbelievable.. I literally had to launch at 6500 RPM with very few slips of the tires of the line (which you ultimately want anyway) i guess my only real point is quaife + slicks = major fun and low ET's

One last piece of advice,, I have tokico blues as well.. I keep a cheap set of ebay coil over sleeves on them dialed all the way down(lowered) but it's not slammed my springs just are meant for plain shocks.. but what this allows is for me to raise the rear end up 3-4 inches for drag launching, also on a FWD without a LSD, you can use the rear coilovers to balance the weight to the front by cranking one further than the other (but you need a nice set of scales to do this)

I absolutely cannot wait to get to the track again, my last 12.07 (best timet o date) was over 6 years ago (talked about above) and i was making a best of 330HP or so (19psi on 57 trim with race gas and just a good timing map and safe/rich 11:1 AFR's) I'm hoping that now days with 430+ on tap (and breaking 500 with laughing gas) that i can reach my all time goal of drag racing and that's go go deep into the 11's and get told i can't run agian untill i get a cage (great excuse for one i think LOL)

well, i hopethat made sense.. and when it comes to diffs i don't want to start a pisssin match but inserts will eventually = death to transmission if you're making over 350hp... the KAAZ diff was my first choice because of my road racing background i just felt comfortable with the disk style diff.. but they actually asked my HP and intended usage and were honest enough to recomend i NOT use their diff and isntead buy a quaife.. they told me that theirs will break when launched on slicks too many times with a 400+ hp car (i know others do it but just sayin) so i was lucky enough for Jon at TRE to ahve on on hand when i needed my new trans and got the TRE stage 2.5 (love this thing :D )

The quaife has been probably thebest mod i've put in the car.. i mean power's great but when you can't put it to the ground it gets annoying.. NOw when i spin the tires in third rolling into it on the highway , it's a posi-traction affiar and OH MY GOD hang the f*&k on !! LOL changing lanes under power with an LSD like the quafe is something that takes practice, the first few times scared me pretty good..no way to describe it but with a term i often use "point and click"

yes they will!

I dont know what HP I was at but I was on my HX35 30+ psi and street tires, ^ this happened when I shifted into 2nd. the Insert survived though LOL

I was planning on going with a Wavtrac differential.

I don't have any personal experience with wavetrac, but i can tell you i've put the quaife through hell many times a day at some points and she never flinches. I sheared an axle the other day on the 2-3 shift (not being hard on it really either moderate psi and agranny shifting) but the LSD has held through all i've ever put it through and after driving on it and having driven many clutch syle LSD's i don't know that i'll ever want anything other than the helical style that i'm runnign now.. for the street they absolutely rock, no adjustments needed ever, no noisy engagement and such in slow maneuvering.. I just have nothing bad to say about it other than i wish it was a few hundred cheaper, but it was worth every penny i shelled out and i'd do it agian if i had to :D

I have done alot of research and im sure I will do alot more right before I buy, LOL, but i can also get one for under $700 and local and they come with a lifetime warrenty too.

Im pushing my quafie pretty hard. Hasnt flinched, not even when I blew 2nd gear. I launch around 500hp (30psi on 60mm turbo, @6200rpm i hit 16psi till the 60foot then up to 30psi, 2nd gear hits 38psi) then have hit the 75 shot plenty of times and never had a problem. But we will see this fall how the quafie holds with the BW372 behind it.

My rip grip insert in my tre2.5 has never seen less than 449whp and I havnt had any problem that I know of yet. I couldnt find any lagit claims against them when I decided to try it out.

Im guessing John at TRE did the insert when you had the trans built? When he puts them togeather they tend to hold up alot better, and he has his own shim specs when building. Honestly I got my quaife used and the build date on the diff says 2005 and I know that im the 3rd owner.... Alex had it for 3 years in his 16g drag car that ran 11.1 and he always just dumped the clutch, Ive had it a year myself. And I plan to put it in my auto next year.

Yes John installed it when he was doing my tranny build. There is another guy locally with a tre build and insert and he hasnt had any tranny related issues either. I guess the real test will come if I ever figure out my accelerating problem.

Save the money and buy slicks...then you'll be hoping for an 11 second pass soon.

I probably wont go to the track very much since its a little over an hour away. I just wanted to know where she was trap speed wise. I have a 1ga awd i am building but love my gst for a roll car. It actually hooks pretty decent on the street too.

Well got my best so far of 13.6@107. Went to go for next run lined up against my buddies sti, I tried to launch alittle harder and snapped the passenger side axle. Got up at 6 am today and started taking my spare axles out of my parts car then heading back down to track to try again. I think with alittle more practice on the slicks I will see some lower et.

my new personal best mph and et from yesterday

Man you have a lot left in that car too with those 60fts. Nice times regardless though. Im assuming your profile isn't up to date? Whats your mods list these days? Also, do you still have that park bench on the back of your car LOL?

This on the ssmic I sold you? Any heatsoak? What boost?

This may have changed. I had a trail of tranny fluid follow me me home from the track Friday night. I was hopeing it was oil but it smelt to bad on the ride home. I confirmed it wasnt oil this morning but didnt have time to see where the damage was...this cars been nothing but a pain since the rebuild so this was probably the last straw.

Yup still on the supra smic no heatsoak and running about 20-21 psi. Oh I beat that one and ran a 13.15@109. I will update you all fully in the morning I'm beat from the long race weekend. Oh one more thing I snapped another axle and on the same side. Grrrrrrrr gotta figure out what axle to go with next stockers aint cutting it.

sucks to hear for sure. If you decide to part out, pm me about the intake manifold. Im in Frisco for work and can pick it up.

Yes I was an extreme ricer back in the day ( maybe some still consider me as one) .

I posted pictures of my set up a few pages back.

but its a 2.3, small gt42, DPR cylinder head, crower cams, 1200cc, Twin A1000s, stock ecu with TMO chip and an afc for tuning, home made tranny, hughes converter.

Just out of curiosity, but why would you need twin A1000s, especially if you only have 1200cc injectors. A single A1000 would outrun those 1200s, much less two of them. Just curious to learn why you are using two.

As he posted. With mph like that, the car has a lot more in it! Very good mph.

more of the fwd progress..

Stock pipe needs some mods
