What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

i purchased a JDM engine and tranny. and i was wondering how would i know what turbo came with the engine, any way to find out with out comparing to another turbo.

If it's ""JDM"" it would probably be a 16g.
If it's an evo engine that is.

Post what the turbo says on it and someone can help you.

Most likely a 14b. Look at the fins. If they are staggered big and small, its a 16G. If they all look the same its probably a 14b.

i heard that the kind of injectors that came with the engine might be a factor to figure out which one it is. Is this true?

Yes, if you have yellow top injectors (510cc) then you have the 16g.

yeah my engine came with the blue tops (450). So i guess i got the 14b.

Don't use the tranny before you do research. I'm in the same boat (cept I got yellow tops with a 16g ) but from what I've read the JDM trannies have a different final drive ratio.

anyone speak enough japenese to do a search for a jdm tranny??

That's the type of turbo it is.
That usually referrs to the compressor housing when someone says "trim" or the wheel 99% of the time.


Big16g is the type of turbo that it is.
Same as 16g, t25, t28, 50trim, 60trim and so on...

I have had some bad engine problems so I bought an imported 6 bolt through ASAP Motors out of Texas. The turbo's fins are like double fins on the intake side as compared to the fins on my 14b turbo. The #'s on the turbo are TDO5H 49178-01 if this helps. Is this something bigger or is it the t-25? O yeah it also has very little side to side play is this ok?

I can't get any pics right now but maybe by thurs night i can this motor came from Japan w/ thirty thousand miles on it. The injectors don't appear to be stock either. If this engine was upgraded to a 16g could the injectors be stock or do they have to be upgraded?

my turbo has the double fins too.......xcept it doesnt say tdo5 on it. its a garrett i know that for sure......i thought all the stock turbos came in the tdo5 housing (the 14b and the t25)???? instead of td05 mine says a/r 48m2/ 2...... (im not trying to thread jack, if thats what this would be considered....im sorry)

If the engine has a 16g, the injeectors should be yellow top. They are rated at 510cc and will be fine for that turbo but you will need an afc or some other type of fuel control to use them. Your factory ecu will not run them properly and you will run excessivly rich.

It's a 16G. T-25's don't come on a 1G.

Yeah it is a 6 bolt. I have the engin out now and on the front side of the engine the oil pan curves out instead of in like the 7 bolts. I also pulled the manifold off and took a look at the collector side outlet and its much bigger than than my old 1g outlet. Does this mean that it is and Evo manifold? If so, is it possible that this engine came out of an EVO? The intake is also different w/ space between the runners instead of being solid, and only 1 vacum line on the throttle body instead of 4.

O yea my valve cover is also red if that means anything.

No it would not be out of an evo, reason being that the timing is on the opposite side. It has been said time to time that JDM motors come with a 16g and 510cc injectors. Good luck with your project.

More then likely you have a Cyclone Engine which does come with a Small 16g....
