I'm glad I already have a VIS hood  I hope the business prospers!

So happy I brought my seibon hood back before CF hoods were $1000+. Crazy prices for parts these days.

No shit. I gave $600 for mine, still in its box, from another DSMer getting out 10 years ago. They were at $1000 back then. 😲

So I'm changing all my cold side piping to 3.5" up from 3" but my intercooler only had 3" inlets. I cut off the 3" and was going to hog out the end tanks with a die grinder, figuring my mill was too small to fit my core in, think again...when there's a will, there's a way LOL.

Now to weld on the elbow on the left side and mate up to the turbo on the right side.

Your fabrication skills are an inspiration to me Jason! :thumb:

@WhiteEclipse , your photos didn't post. Interested in your fabrication on them! 👍

I'm not a big fan either, but it's functional (and period correct). The angle looks more extreme than it really is because of the angle the photos were taken from. I plan to replace that muffler with something more "traditional" later on.
Angle tips #ftw!!

It has camber..... ROFL
For me, I ruined 2 oil control rings so I had to order another set of rings (just 1). I've never had any oil rings that were too tight, but this set of Wiesco 8550XX's had all of them snug (.008" and minimum was .010"). I opened up the top and 2nd rings, no problem, but oil rings are thin and flimsy. I got 2 way too big at .028". I was aiming for .020".
Sometimes, this happens. I won't put it together unless it meets MY specs, so I am putting the squirters in (cleaned inside and out) with new crush washers and Orange Gel Loctite so I can put on the Kiggly girdle that came in along with the main studs.

Did you have to clearance the block Marty? I have the girdle in my parts hoard, more details on where you are supposed to give clearance would be nice. Love the info keep it coming.

Yep you have to grind the back 2 "nubs" that stick internally on the block, that are for the bottom 2 rear main seal housing bolts. I used an electric angle grinder. Idk if I have a picture but I'll look for you. Good question.
Here we go. The girdle bumps into both of these bumps inside the block. The directions show them completely smooth but I grind them enuf to give the girdle clearance. :thumb:

Great thanks Marty! I wasn’t sure exactly where the grinding was needed. That makes it more clear. Figured it would make itself clear to me when I got there but I like to know going into things obviously.

Here are Kiggly's official instructions. I bottom out my studs, I don't measure the top. Grind the back bosses far enough down that the girdle won't touch it and that's all that you need to do. Don't forget, you will also have to dent your oil pan for the back 2 studs clearance. A big jack handle and a sledge hammer work for me or follow their directions. I have a write up somewhere on how I dimple my oil pans. I'll look.

I’m sure I have those directions too. One of the many problems with a build taking as long as mine. LOL.
Nothing beats first hand HD photos and expertise though!
Curious on the oil pans though. I have two OEM ready to go but also have the MAPerformance oil pan I was hoping to use. Have yet come across ANYONE who could offer advise as to how to implement their oil pan or modifications needed.

I bet it involves a BFH! :idontknow: ;)
I found my writeup on what I do to dent an original pan.

I just recently documented some photos in my build thread of this “modification” LOL, as Marty mentioned it does involve a BFH:D

The first idiot machine shop I dealt with ground down the girdle because it wouldn't go in. I gave my motor over with it installed so they could see the orientation.
They had it upside down.

Yep, that was the quality of brainpower there.

What did I do to my DSM today today? I Brought my valve cover to work and got it washed and sand blasted so I can repaint it

Just make sure to wash the grit out from the blasting that get under the baffle. :thumb:
