Looks like I'm building a 22RE. Tomorrow the crank will get machined and I will start on some port work with the cylinder head. I'll need a few measurements to see what other oversized internals are needed, but I'm looking to make this engine very reliable.

Celica?

Not necessarily car related but work related. Replaced our 32port Raritan KVM that we use for PXE Windows loads for computers at work and replaced all 64 cat 5 cables with cat 6a, replaced all the 60watt power supplies with 90watt and wire managed it all.. took me 3 8 hour days.

Step one of three is done with the port work on this 22RE cylinder head. The initial 60 grit porting is finished. Next I need a longer extension to get near the valves and from there I'll go to 120 grit. I advised him to stay away from polishing the intake side for proper fuel atomization. Whatever he wants me to do, I will. The rest can be sorted out in the tune. Almost ready to drop the head off at the machine shop tomorrow though. I need to pass a hone through the block though before getting it resurfaced (we're running an MLS gasket with head studs).

I also tried to talk him into forged internals and a hair dryer sized turbocharger, but for now we're squeezing out every bit of N/A power. Then he'll decide. I'm up for any task with this simple engine though.

While the 22RE is at the machine shop getting fixed up, I had a customer drop off an '03 Accord to have the engine replaced. He dropped off the car around 8pm and I had the old engine out by 12am. K series are usually easy but one of the engine mounts was fighting me. Now just waiting on the replacement to get delivered. I think I'm going to build the old engine. Lost compression on one cylinder. I may trade some K24 parts for 22RE parts during my next trip to the machine shop. :)

Cooler Mods!!!
I've been working on my "incognito" cooler/live well for fishing, since my pond went DRY this last year. I live very close to our State lake, and as soon as I get my license (next week, pay day!), I will be trying to restock my pond with some fish for my grandkids to enjoy!
I posted a video of the "mad scientist" contraption too!

Today was my birthday. I planned a calm and relaxing day of doing nothing at all besides turning wrenches and playing music. I had a friend over helping me align body panels on the Prelude. Things turned crazy very quickly though. In the blink of an eye there was what I estimate to be at least an 80mph wind gust roll through. It was quite intense and I watched my 100+ year old tree get ripped from the ground. My day rapidly transformed from relaxing in the shop to having newscasters and fire department everywhere taking pictures and videos. It was one of the oldest trees in the area and the small community is stunned. I spent the last couple of hours sawing limbs off for firewood. The city isn't coming out until sometime tomorrow to fully clear the road. The power company won't be far behind to replace a light pole that the tree broke into many pieces. I'm glad to have firewood, but I was hoping that tree would stay around for a while. It provided great shade and was a time capsule for the area. Alas, I'll clean up and keep on going.

happy belated!

Happy birthday!
Was it your favorite "shade tree" for mechanics???

With the luck you’ve had, Solomon, I’d probably clear all the trees out from anywhere near my possessions. Glad that you didn’t lose any thing with this one.

Happy belated!

I had a Frontier in high school. It was a KA24DE though. Short cab long bed. Ran great especially after my cylinder head was rework and porting.

In other news I ordered an Insta360 X3 with multiple mounts. I'll probably have multiple months of fun and good content with that.

Started on one of the larger projects I've take on in quite some time. My pool is (over)due to be refinished. I was planning to just buck up the cash to have it done, but when I started getting $30k+ bids for the work I decided to sacrifice my weekends and some vacation time to tackle it myself.

The pool was built in 1988 and is referred to as a "hybrid" pool because of the fiberglass walls and gunite (concrete) bottom. The walls have some osmotic blistering that needs to be repaired, and the bottom has many layers of failing paint that need to be chipped/ground away down to bare concrete. Not necessarily hard, just A LOT of manual labor.

My sympathy, I had to fix those on the bottom of my boat and then epoxy seal and bottom paint it. Grinding them out is a dirty and sometimes smelly job.

I've pretty much done that already, minus the oldest and largest trees on the property. I didn't see them falling soon or any diseases, so I was going to leave them. The one that fell down is making good firewood, at the cost of lots of physical energy and strength. I'm getting stronger and more accurate along the way though. Thanks for the wishes and thoughts.

Looks like you could be in the deep in pretty quick, be careful or you'll be over your head

Unplanned pit stop today while the wife is still recovering from having a revision of her left hip replacement. Woke up this morning to water leaking from under the kitchen sink, it looked like it had been doing so for awhile. The sink strainers were original from when we built this house and the clamp on both was plastic that finally fractured after 34 years.

Off to HD for some replacement parts, and managed to fix them in only the one trip rather than the 4 or 5 that is normal. Took about as long to clean up the mess as to replace the two strainers and reconnect all the traps and tailpipes.
