Clean MKIII in for AC INOP diag after retrofit. One fitting was loose. The system had 0.08KG. Charged. No power to compressor. Power comes from the AC amplifier which is in the dash so that should be fun.

Tackled the dreaded intake valve cleaning that direct injection motors are plagued with. Car idles and drives actually a lot better. The walnut blaster/vacuum made it a quick and easy task

Finally swapped the rear calipers on the Lancer yesterday. Also painted the rotor hats and swapped the rear sway bar bushings while I was at it.

I finished up and took the car for a ride. I quickly discovered I was an idiot and never bled the brakes. I got the car back home safely, but called it a night.

Got up this morning and set up a one man bleeder. Bled both rear brakes and went a little extra to flush the lines. Went ahead and bled/flushed the front calipers/lines too. I had not flushed them since mid 2021 when I did my clutch. The fluid was nasty.

Still need to paint the front rotor hats, but the rain stopped that from happening today. It's amazing the difference it makes in appearance.

All the plastic coolant pieces make the new Mercedes turbo engines a pain. 4.7?

Yeah I would have to agree. I replaced most of the plastic hoses including the plastic thermostat due to deterioration... Its a 5.5 liter (M157).
I have yet to actually work a new amg(turbo) car and didn’t even know there was still a 5.5. I’m working on a nightmare cls400 timing job right now. The tensioner oil restrictor pieces besides the threaded part stayed in the head. One gear snapped the spring.

Wow! That looks like a nightmare. Even simple spark plug changes on these cars are a long process. How long of a job is the timing chains and tensioner?

16-20+. It’s a suck job and that’s just the sprockets and tensioner stuff. The air-water intercooler sits in front of the harmonic balancer 🤦🏻‍♂️.

How many new curse words have you invented since working on it? 🙃
I’m starting to bring back some old ones like Gee Willikers for Pete’s sake 😂

My daily driver/kid hauler (Audi e-tron) got a little makeover. It was time for new tires and the factory wheels are 21". If you've ever bought 21" tires you'll know that they are insanely expensive compared to 20" or 22" tires. It was only a couple hundred dollars more to just buy a set of 22" Rotiform BTLs AND new tires than to just replace the factory size tires.

But first, I wanted fancy brakes.

Looks pretty rad for a boring EV.

Just had to order a new chain for my saw, again. This time I ordered a 3 pack.

Tell me how an oil filter gets inside of a tree.

I'd guess it's the oil squirrels that put it in there. LOL

That's one of the things I love about it. It's built on the Q8 platform and it looks, feels, and drives like a normal car; but it just so happens to be electric. They didn't try to make it look or feel like a spaceship, it has the same interior and controls as the gasoline cars.

I guess this is sorta working on the DSM but also not LOL.

Anyway I made my first parts FOR the dsm with my lathe. I needed some M10x1.25 weld nuts but I could only find M10x1.5 locally so I put the lathe to work and made my own.

Whoa whoa there fella..where else are you supposed put the filter when you do an oil change on the tree..?? I mean it kinda has to go there.. I once put the filter in a bush by mistake and man, was that a friggen mess..!! Would definitely dull a chain in a hurry.. anyhow

I drew the lucky straw at work today, and got a 2006 ridgeline rear subframe recall… usually this recall takes about 2 hours, but mine today turned into a whole day ordeal… subframe bolt seized in its sleeve. Tried to heat the bolt, but that didn’t work. “Luckily” the recall has a separate procedure for this situation, and i had to remove the gas tank to cut into the frame to remove the threaded sleeve, and install a new one.

You crashed the DSM? That sucks man, I was wondering where you'd been all these years.

Looks like I'm building a 22RE. Tomorrow the crank will get machined and I will start on some port work with the cylinder head. I'll need a few measurements to see what other oversized internals are needed, but I'm looking to make this engine very reliable.
