Back with some info on this 3kGT head job. I have no idea how the front head with the rear cams even ran. It’s quite ridiculous.
I know the front head kissed valves with the crank gear being broken (never took it off) so I’m going to use the old rear head intakes to replace the front ones. Marty @1990TSIAWDTALON was only half right! 😂 It’s only one head but at least it’s not both. It sucks to do anything again with the amount of work involved. I hold myself to a standard and hate when things don’t work out. My entire shop did not like me for at least a couple hours including the boss. Everyone got it if you know what I mean.
Also thanks to 3SX for answering questions and giving info. This kid had no idea about anything and it ran with the back cams in the front without any timing marks lining up 😮.

I enjoy working on things nobody else wants to. It’s usually not an hacked. Usually. Insert Bentley Continental with a radiator leak. The entire job is like $7-8k. Oh was he not looking for that sticker price. Thats just the radiator 😂

We have to make sure it works and it lasts with a warranty. This is a W12TT. It’s tight.

W12? That's gotta look weird

ouch..Do you have to pull the whole engine just to do anything and everything? Thats a tight fit...
I did valve covers, spark plugs (the coils like to break), like a general maintenance table deal with filters and all that on a Flying Spur. It’s tight but if people are afraid to work on it generally isn’t as ragged out as most things are after Fischer Price mechanics get into them over the years.

I'm studying for a HAM Technician License. Radios have been my hobby since I was 12.
Since I was not getting my pension yet, I set up my old Radio Station, as it was FREE. I had all the equipment from back in the 90s so I put it all back together and have been enjoying a chit chat with others lately. I used to mod Radios instead of cars. I'd throw in extra channels and peak out the final amp section, sometimes mod the modulation circuits or add "echo boards" for truckers and other locals. Now it is a FREE hobby and maybe I will have my license in a month or so!

Most of the Bentley's from that era are just VW parts bin specials. I bet you the radiators are the same ones used on the Phaeton W12 or Audi S8, for 1/4 the price.
If it was just a rebody maybe. Nope. This is the perfect example of what people assume somebody drives is a reflection of wealth. He picked up so I’d love to see if somebody tries to make something work.

I had bought brakes and rotors for the Lancer a few weeks back. It had been almost 5 years since I did them and the fronts were down. They likely would have still passed inspection, but figured whatever.

Weather has been crap the last few weeks, and the days it was decent, I was busy. Finally got a real nice day yesterday and wanted to tackle it. Fronts were pretty straightforward. Get to the drivers rear and hit a snag. The caliper was a little stiff on the top slider. The bottom slider was dry too. Got it all done and moved to the passenger rear. This is where the fun came in.

Bottom slider was super dry and tough to come out. Finally got it out and the caliper didn't even want to rotate on the top slider. Gave it a little heat and a little force, and got it to start moving. It was rough, but it moved. The rotor was giving me issues coming off. I couldn't quite get a good swing at the back because the caliper wasn't completely up.

I started trying to work the caliper some more when SNAP! the top slider bolt snapped off.

After a lot of cussing, a few failed attempts I was able to get a good bite on the stub and enough heat into the bracket to get it broken free and it actually "exploded" out of the bracket. I had another slider bolt handy and was able to get everything lubed up and back together.

After taking it for a ride the passenger rear was good, but I could tell the driver rear was hanging up a little. I didn't have the time, or patience, to fix it last night, and just rode it out to work and back this morning (less than 9 mile round trip)

When I got home I battled the top slider on the driver side and got it free and replaced it with the other slider bolt I had here. It's no longer hanging up.

I did go ahead and order new calipers and brackets, and went ahead and got new soft line while I was as it. For the price I paid it was well worth it not to be crusty. Once it comes in it should only take about 15 minutes to swap out. I might eventually replace the fronts too just to do it and keep the car happy.

Getting the floor cleaned up and ready for spring. A few drops of degreaser, a few drops of Ajax, and a bunch of water. Plus a little elbow grease with a stiff scrub brush. It will be nice and shiny just in time to make it dirty again!

Etch that thing and epoxy it! Lol
Makes cleanup much easier!

Epoxy coating has been in the plans the whole time. I just keep spending money on car parts instead LOL

It is a polished floor so cleanup isn't too bad and it already has a semi shiny appearance, but it does soak in fluids to some degree. Epoxy will give that extra layer of protection.

Put plenty of anti-slip when you do! Mine is deadly especially with wet crocs!

The amount of Florida in this comment causes me physical discomfort. Only thing missing is a crack about mosquitos and humidity.

Why am I the family mechanic? Put a water pump on my dodge minivan yesterday. Took ENTIRELY too long. I looked at all the idlers etc and this thing still makes chirping noises. Hoping I don't have a bad bearing in alternator, PS etc.

Most likely the alternator. Had the same issue on my mom’s dodge caravan years ago.

Took the Lancer to get it inspected yesterday.

Today was a nice day and looking at the forecast winter is "over" so I decided to put my "summer" wheels/tires back on. I grabbed the tools, and went to the shed to get them out, and that turned into cleaning the shed. I filled two contractor bags full of stuff. Tired of keeping things I'll likely never use.

Once I was happy with the shed I went back to the tire swap. While swapping I took a look at my passenger rear as I noticed a low speed squeak. Turned out when I was doing my rotors I overadjusted my ebrake and it was just barely rubbing when not engaged. Backed it back off, and all is well.
