you may think that the alpine type r's are shitty subs but i have seen them hit well over 150db. i personally hit 145.8db in my old eclipse with some type r 12's. its all about your amp and how big your box is.

Kind of a disappointing show all around imho.

Anybody actually have some real subs, like some RE's or something?

I saw your retraction to those comments, but I thought I'd throw a couple of things out for you to consider:

You have to remember what forum this is. You're driving a nine year old car and you want to put how much money into the audio system? Some of us are here to learn a few tweaks and keep our cars running. Others are here to squeeze every tenth of horsepower they can from the engine and would never dare add another pound of weight.

You may find what your thirsting for purusing an audio web site and looking at systems installed in 2005 escalades or other top dollar cars. Go where the big money is! Try posting a request in the hangout asking for links to professional installer's websites that have the really juicy pictures of their proud accomplishments too.

What you will find here are the people who are willing to tell of their endeavors AND their mistakes. I'm sure we all agree seeing fully documented installs and confessions like Thomas91169's is why we're here in the first place.

I need some serious sub enclosure help here and FAST!! I have tried my hand at building a box for my old Orion Cobalt 10's...its was not a success to say the least. I got rid of those and now I have 2 Orion 15's. the problem is, the box is massive and doesn't fit in the hatch of my 92 Eclipse. I have the entire box sitting on my back seat. Also...I dont have $300 to drop on a box to be built at my local audio store....I have to build my own. Can someone who has built a box for 2 15's in a 1gb Eclipse tell me how to build it?? I have a big car show comming up April 29th and I need the box or else I can forget about showing....someone pelase help!!!

So what is the best way to do this? (Structurally) I have seen a lot that aren't fiberglass at all, but fleece soaked in resin. Someone told me to use fiberglass cloth and resin. Will that hold up without cracking/breaking? I am going to attempt to build an enclosure soon. Key word there is "attempt."

the reason people use the fleece is for thickness. when you soak it in resin you are basically turning it into a 1/8th inch thick sheet of fiberglass. you can use just fiberglass sheets, but you will be spending a lot longer time building up the thickness to withstand a sub hitting hard. Most people use the fleece and then cover it with a few layers of glass. If you just want to use fiberclas cloth and no fleece you might want to find a boat supply store. they have way heavier weights of cloth than you would find in a auto store.

My suggestion is to use MDF to build a frame, then staple fleece onto it and resin the crud outta it. then cover with a few layers of fiberglass cloth to get the thickness you need. I am guessing about 1/4 inch total.

I am by NO means a competent authority on this, you shold contack Devilish as his is MUCH better than mine, but it is a starting point on your way to fiberglass induced nirvanna..... :D

NeonGreenEclips, did you build all that yourself? Thats really nice. Post some more pics of your engine bay... I've never seen a turbo setup like that.

check my webpage for a quick "how-to" on the sub enclosure, otherwise feel free to ask questions after reading it if something does not make sense.

here's what i'm thinking: i have 1 10" sub, and i really don't want to lose any trunk space. so i'm gonna try making an exact copy of the wooden panel covering the spare, but with 3/4" counter decking, then i'll buil a box to "hang" from this in the spare compartment. as for the spare, i'm gonna just buy a can of fix-a-flat. has anyone tried this before? if so, any hints/tips would be helpful.

NeonGreen dude your car is very badass indeed. perfect mixture of show and go. i like how the rear enclosure has the edges and what not. its imagination and attention to detail like that that set things apart fromt he rest.

hee hee.

Hey Rodwa4, that is exactly what I origionally did, but after getting a flat on the interstate at 85 MPH, and seeing how chewed my sidewalls were, I decided to scrap that idea and just re-work my trunk so that I could pull stuff out to get at my spare.

as to my box I had... I still have it. it was a .89 cu ported and tuned to i believe 28hz. that was just bit small for my type R 10, but it worked really well. I ended up raising the floor of my trunk about 1.5 inches with foam to get everything to line up flat, then cut a hole in the centr of the factory carpet and mounted my sub in that. looking in the back it looked like a normal empty hatch, except for the 10 in type R staring at you from the center.

It was easy to build it, if you want I can take measurements for you after I get off work in 3 days....

I Will I should be done with it soon, I had it custom made by a popular turbo guy in Florida called "Gato" he's redoing my manifold and intercooler pipes. I wanted something different from the Hahn and Star Kit. Will post pics as soon as im done.

Thanx!

frigginlazer: if you could measure your box that would help speed me along. (note: i live on a island 12 miles wide at it's widest point, so i'm not too worried about getting "stranded"). thanks. rodwa4

yes sur. its clean and crisp from all volume levels. sounds awesome down low and even more awesome when you crank that bi*** up. i feel it gets a bit extreme after 10 inch or when you start to add more then one

I live in michigan. This Car Audio place near me did a Denali for one of the Pistons (I forgot which one). 6 (yes I said six) 15" W7's with 6 pioneer 1000w (RMS!!) amps.. My buddy works there and told me I had to come in and see this thing. We turned it on inside the garage, and rattled tons of shit off the shelves. We took it outside, and it still was rattling stuff off the shelves inside the garage. I've never heard anything that loud.

you mean 13w7 but yeah i did a car show last summer with my job and the local stereo shop here "SOUNDSHOP" well we had a bass off and this piece of shit GMC brown conversion van rolls up and wants to enter. he hops out of his seat and behind the two front seats is a wall of NINE 13 W7's!!!!. i wish i could have gotten pics but it was serious. it was loud but i would have definately liked to hear it indoors to see what his happening to stuff around it and i believe he wasn;t hitting as hard as he could due to lack of sound deading material and the system was designed to be removed but yeah LOUD

If you just want LOUD.. There's actually an MTX sub out that shits on JL W7 "LOUD" wise.

yeah theres quite a few that will hit louder but alot aren;t as clean or built to wistand the abuse that much loudness will do to a speaker. but ive heard alot of different speakers so im not anti anything else but W7 is just so clean

MTX is coming out with a sub called the jackhammer soon its 23 inches long and weighs like 300 pounds and will take 4000 watts rms+ yeah thats gonna kill a few things
