Well I have had my subs for a while now. I love how it looks. I have a Thunder MTX box, 2 JL Audio W3V3 12 inch, 2 Stinger caps, and a Kenwood Excelon "Gouriki" Amp.

you mean 13w7 but yeah i did a car show last summer with my job and the local stereo shop here "SOUNDSHOP" well we had a bass off and this piece of shit GMC brown conversion van rolls up and wants to enter. he hops out of his seat and behind the two front seats is a wall of NINE 13 W7's!!!!. i wish i could have gotten pics but it was serious. it was loud but i would have definately liked to hear it indoors to see what his happening to stuff around it and i believe he wasn;t hitting as hard as he could due to lack of sound deading material and the system was designed to be removed but yeah LOUD

back in the early 80's to late 80's my parents owned 21st street sound and security in brooklyn new york. that was thing though man, vans, it was all about vans and having the loudest system in the back. the shop they had though had a ford conversion van, my dad setup about 20 kicker comp subs all along the back and brought it to bass contests and just blew people away with it. shops long gone though and he doesn't touch car audio systems anymore. it's a shame but he's 53 now.

Ouch! My ears are ringing looking at this BEAST!

you guys are all kidding, right? JL Audio is the way to go with subs. Especially the W7 series as seen in this photo of my trunk.:thumb: But you're right about the sony subs, they do stink, they hit the basket too much, they arent made for excursion or to be coupled with a line driver, for those who know what that is. If you want real clean bass, you need a good deck, so it sends a clean signal, a high wattage amp so you dont lose clarity there either and a real nice sub to reproduce the clean signal. There is a trade off, its very expensive. You can always go get cheapo subs for 35 bucks a piece, but 10, get 5 shit 2 channel amps and ride around fartin' and distortin, but kinda loud. I just chose to spoil myself with face melting ear shattering clean bass, so what u see is what i got. Personally, JL is the only thing for me as far as subs go. I havent landed with my favorite amp yet. The JBL BP1200.1 on the left you see will be taken out pretty soon and replaced with a 3000 watt amplifier. As far as speakers go, there is nothing like a nice set of MB Quart speakers in the car, with a nice set of properly put in and hooked up crossovers.
JL is the only way to go if you want to blow money! I would love to see a W7 try to contend with a ssa xcon that costs half the price of a W7.

Do FI's sound good sealed or do they need to be ported like dd's?

^^^I completely agree with what he said, I will say though I did a w7 install (2 12w7s) in a mid 90s jeep cherokee and they were probably the best sound quality sub I've heard to date, aside from image dynamics subs.

It depends on which sub you are talking about, a sub with a high ebp will be better suited for a ported box and a sub with a low ebp will be better suited for a sealed box.
^^^Holy beast machine Batman!!! Only thing left to do is make it pretty

If I kept anything in the car long enough I would haha always changing and testing to make it louder, maybe one day...

Old setup from a few years ago, few things have changed, i removed the top amp for my methanol pump and tank.

Ill take some updated pics once there isn't 15 inches of snow outside.

Nothing fancy just my setup. I was thinking about the ebay sub enclosure but cant find anyones reviews. But heres my 2 10inch alpines.
Throw the legacy amp in the trash where it belongs and get you a hifonics brutus brz1200.1d or an aq1200d put those subs in a 3 cubic ft sealed enclosure built with 3/4 inch MDF facing up towards the glass and you'll be golden!

W7's are great subs just not worth the price. SQ wise i'ld go with a dd9512. never heard anything outperform 1 in the speaking of sound quaulity. I was asking about the FI Q's and BTL's.

The Q is a nice in-between sub, if you wanted a little more sq out of it you could go with a sealed box but if you wanted more on the output side I'd do ported. They also make an awesome 4th order sub as well. The btl's are strictly for ported, especially the new neo motors, there's just way too much motor force there to put one in a sealed box. It would destroy soft parts regularly.
