Thanks guys. :thumb: I dont have the kit with me, but it was a Fel-Pro?? It includes the spark plug rings and some rubber plug too. I guess I'll see how it works. I'll post and let you know.

I only put rtv on the half-moon and the part of the gasket that goes over the cams, then I let it cure for 8 hours. To clean it I just put the whole vc in a chemical dip, rinsed, then wiped up all the caked oil. Then I painted it and it looks a lot better.

Well I did the swap over the weekend. The gasket did fit so I don't know why it would say 93-96? Everything looks great except for the plug wires. I think some jerk from tuners sold me the wrong ones.

went to go change the plugs on my mom's 98 n/t eclipse, and her plugs were swimming in oil. i took plug 1 out and replaced it, and started the motor just to make sure everything was OK...and i was greeted with a friendly little cloud of blue smoke. im assuming that the oil is from a leaky valvecover gasket, but could it be anything else? also, so i go ahead with changing the rest of the plugs, or put the old one back until the problem is resolved.

thanks :dsm:

The valve cover gasket only keeps oil from getting outside the valve cover.
The problem is the 4 plug well gaskets are probably old/shriveled/cracked/torn/etc.

Same here, They go between the valve cover and the head and they are a circle ring gaskets with a screw hole on each one. They cost only a dollar or two at any auto part store and take 2 min. to change. The only reason why it blew smoke was because when you pulled the spark plug out you didnt soak up the oil in the spark plug hole with a rag and it leaked down into the cylinder and thats why it blew smoke. So before you replace any more spark plugs replace the gaskets and soak up the oil before you change the plugs. good luck!

ok this is the secondtimethat damn thing has went out. firstonei had a shop do it and it was fine tilll the otherday. now i was wondering how long can i drive it like this and if there is any serious things that could happen.. i csnt fix it for about 2 weeks with how busy my work schedule is and i drive it everyday. its no gushing out its from teh frontleft side. also i was wondering do i have to remove thetimingbeltcoverto change thegasket??

you will only have to remove the upper timing cover gasket to get to it. it is very simple to do. just remove the breather hose from the passenger side and the pcv hose from the back and the pull the plug wires and take the bolts out. easy 30 min job. parts will cost you about 15-20 good opportunity to check oil cap gasket and pcv valve. good luck.

alright thanks. oil isnt leaking too bad, i was expecting abit a 20$ fix.. this is a good time to go to the junkyard and get a valve cover and hi temp paint it...hehe thanks.

i have a 420a 95 n/t eclipse and i my valve cover gasket is leaking.
What symptoms should i see from this....? Can oil leak through this........i think it is motor oil that i see leaking from this. Also will changing it make my car run stronger?? thanks for your help guys..... :dsm:

I'm pretty sure there's a VFAQ on it. But if not, you have to remove your spark plug cover, take out your spark plugs (remember which wire goes where) then unscrew all the bolts on the top. If you have the replacement kit, it's opposite of removal, and just to be safe I used a little silicone on the top part to help seal up. When you retighten the valve cover on, only do it a little more than finger tight otherwise you'll crush the gasket and it will leak all over gaain.

does anyone have step by step exlplanation of this procedure for the 420A.....my biggest question is the spark plug terminal......on top of the valve cover.....how do i remove that........????

It should be pretty straightforward, loosen some bolts. Take the plugwires out, take the valve cover off, replace gasket, and put valve cover back on. If you can change sparkplugs, you can do this, just as easy. But if your having a lot of trouble maybe you should have someone else do it

Before I run down to the local automart I was wondering if there were any good online deals or if any know knew off hand a place that sold them cheaper than average.

any help is appreciated..thanks

PS. I already checked ebay and wasn't able to find any

I bought mine from Advance Auto Parts, it's a Felpro and it works fine. And they aren't too expensive.

i bought mine at eaglepartswarehouse.com
it was under 40 bucks for my car and it got to my house in 2 days.
might wanna check them out.....

i need to replace the tube seals under my valve cover. there is a valve cover gasket replacement kit on ebay for a great deal but it is for a 92

is the 2.0 DOHC for the 92 the same 420a as in my 96
