Just wondering what are the lightest racing seats out there. Also, would be nice if they were adjustable.

The age old discussion. Some of the old favorites are no longer available on eBay, so I was wondering if anyone had opinions on/experience with these seats:

  • Dynamic Auto Design (DAD) seats - $300 shipped, these were an old favorite right? It has memory foam? Was there something about bracket problems?

  • Weapon R seats - $150ish pickup

  • Red Line seats - $240 shipped

  • NRG seats - $300 shipped

  • Otto-R seats - $325 shipped, think I've heard good things about these too.

Trying to decide between these seats. Has anyone sat in them?

Thanks!

Thanks. I've been looking into it some more and have changed my options to these:
  • Otto-R seats - $285 shipped, frankly the material looks amazing.

  • Yonaka Motorsports seats - $350 shipped, read some good stuff about them, apparently based in Canada (?) and makes most of the eBay IC cores.

  • G-Force USA Recaro knock-offs - $281 shipped, looks like the Yonaka's but w/suede.

  • BRIDE knock-offs - $300 shipped, looks pretty good, but the seller has a 93% feedback...I looked through 4 pages and couldn't find any feedback on seats

& also, looks like perfect Sparco Torino copies w/o the logo:

  • NRG seats - $300 shipped, Evo Recaro knock-offs, they were on SportCompactOnly so I think they'll be decent seats.

Anyone know of any experiences w/these seats?

Thanks!

G-Force makes some good safety equipment, helmets, harnesses and the like that are all race legal. I wouldn't go with some random brand because even if you don't think they matter, seats are a very important part of driver safety in a crash.

I've installed some of those NRG seats before. Their products are very cheap, compared to the competition, but they are durable nonetheless. I've also seen the knock-off Recaros (they are modeled after Integra Type R Recaro's) and they always look and feel really nice...

You might also try to see if you can find some Tenzo R's, they are really nice, comfortable, and durable...

Thanks for the input! For the NRG's, do you mean cheap price or cheap quality? Have you sat in the knock-off Recaro's before?

Seems like a lot of people are recommending Tenzo R's but I hear they fade a lot?

NRG stuff is top notch. A few of my buddies run their hood dampers and steering hubs, very nice products, especially for the money. I have sat in the knock-off Recaros before, they are pretty comfortable, they just felt kind of cheap. I recommend checking out JDMshit.com and their knock-off Recaros, very nice look. The Tenzo R's do tend to fade, the red and blues are the only ones I've seen, and the blue ones were faded, not sure how old they were...

Thanks for all the great info! Have you had experience with the Otto-R seats by any chance? The fabric on them look just amazing. I checked out JDMshit.com but could only find used DC2 Integra seats.

Good post. I'm repainting my interior and planning on replacing the seats soon. But which of these are SCCA regulation if any?

I'm not really sure about that. I know that most, if not all, reclinable racing seats are not FIA approved for track use, only the bucket seats are. I was reading on the SCCA forum and read something about a back brace?

Well it seems your getting "racing"seats that recline thus that really doesnt make them racing seats. I thought that true racing seats dont recline at all. But if your heading down that road I'd recommend Cobra seats, I sat in them in a car and they were almost to comfy and they were made to last. Sorry I dont have a website for ya.

Well, the car's more of a street car than a track car so I need recline. I know about the Cobra seats...but they cost like 2k OMG

I am actually interested in changing out my seats as well. Do these seats come with mounting hardware that would work with a 1G?

Some seats come with mounting ardware and some dont, but you can easily buy them if they dont. You can find them easy on eBay.

I want some now! I sat in my buddys new Civic SI and those seats hug you and are very comfortable. Mine suck! LOL So I want to look into some aftermarket ones. They bolt right in?

You need to get brackets which most eBay seats don't come with to bolt them right in.

has anyone installed any ebay brand seats into their 1g without costing an arm and a leg?

Some seats come with universal sliders and brackets, do those universal sliders and brackets work for a 1g?

thanks

I was kind of wondering what a total project cost was as well. My stock leather seats are worn out. I do like the look of those gray and black Otto-R's. Would fit nicely with my interior.

Wufei, what did you end up buying?

Just a warning, though it may not apply to all seats: The seats with the triangular reclining dial, such as the Yonaka seats; Those plastic dials are only held on with very small plastic tabs and easily fall off or break off. At the store I work at, we have a set of leatherette racing seats where the adjustment knob broke off and it was easy to see why. I'm not sure if all seats that use this type of dial are prone to this, but the Yonaka adjuster looks exactly the same.
