ok im going to give u some background first i have a built block and i am in the proccess of getting a percission 6262. I have a 91 galant and i am trying to figure out how to make my own custom duel setup (i figure a cop will look at a 3in exhaust before dual stock look), im actualy trying to get a pair of stock mufflers from a lincoln ls or a mark 8 because they will flow pretty good. imo i belive under 3 or 4 grand the car will be quiet perfect for street driving yet the mufflers should allow for good top end flow
If any one has better suggestions i def would be open to any ideas

I have never heard a DSM sound sooooo bad. :toobad:

... you havent heard many dsms then have you... i personally think it sounds pretty beast, and yeh i agree with habitat, im sure once it is turbo it will sound even better.

The majority of the DSM's I see are turbo. I spent a lot of time and money getting mine to sound good. It had a very low rumble and zero raspy-wheed-whackerness to it. You are right, a turbo would make it sound a lot better.

Ok, so I bought a 3" exhaust with high flow cat and HUGE muffler. I was not going to put that thing on my car. One because I personally dont like the look and Two, it would probably scrape on the ground it was so big!

So what I decided to do was cut the 3" exhaust right before the rear diff, and fabricate a Y and branching off to dual exhaust using stock pipe to two stock dual tip mufflers.

I did this because:

1- I like the look of dual double tip mufflers on 2G eclipses (probably because Ive never seen it)

2-I wanted it to be as quiet as possible, but not loose to much flow

I know alot of you on here think its stupid or ugly, but for thouse that like it I will post pix of my fab. up.

The only thing is, is that the welder I used was not the best choice for thin metal, so I could not fine tune the settings= welds are crap

I used up all the argon gas for the mig welder that would have been perfect for the job so I have to make due with what I have till payday to fill the tank again. But I have no patience to wait so It will be done with air tight UGLY welds.

I dont know if this will help or hurt preformance, or sound good. But I like to try new things out so we will see.

Honestly Im a huge fan of duals and I think if done right they could look pretty good, but the only gain I see is a weight gain. Crappy welds dont sound very enticing though.

I think what could work well is a single in and dual outlet muffler placed mid body and have a single straight coming out of each side. I personally don't think 4 tips would look well at all.

It baffles me why anyone in their right mind would put dual N1 style mufflers on a car.

I'd been considering that actually in my effort to make the quietest possible exhaust system..

man the 300ZX TT is like my all time dream car (IMO and no one elses ;) )

My cousin had a 96 TT that he left me when he passed away, together we put over 25K in mods and ended up with a lil over 600HP at the wheels. An awesome Viper killer.

Unfortunately he blew the engine racing a Diablo  i guess that sux for me since i ended up with a sweet ass ride minus a working engine

ya i know its pointless to the rest of you all, just brought back memories

anyway, truck on dood

Nahh 93-98 supra TT thats my next car after this eclipse most likely or a EVO7-9

Supra is where its at stock internals can handle up to 850 HP what stock 6 cyl do you know that has that coming with it

Are N1 Style mufflers any good?

Every brand muffler won't be exactly the same, but in general, they do their job. They are that big so they don't restrict the exhaust flow yet still provide noise deadening. People don't like the look because they look like every generic coffee can muffler you see on hack-jobs, but the design is about the simplest way to make a free flowing muffler. There are other options for those who want a more stock appearing muffler though.
