99 GSX Rebirth/Clean-Up/Build

This is the ongoing build of my 99 Northstar White GSX.

So I wrapped up a few minor things while I had the car up on jackstands.

-New axle
-New Tcase output seal
-Tcase and Transmission fluid change
-Oil change / filter (250miles on break-in)
-Cleaned up some minor oil spots underneath and all the way down to the fuel tank cover.

Overall looks great underneath. There were just minor specs of oil that had made its way back. Most likely from the tcase output shaft seal leak.

I got the car out to the big 3M meet and some people grabbed some pictures. I was the only DSM there out of 300+ registered cars, but there were a few 3KGT.

Love the look of your car.

I finally just said screw it and installed the BNIB driver door switch panel. Mine was repaired with JB weld a few times, the little clip in the pull-pocket didn't fit because I JB welded it too much etc. etc.

Just didn't want to have this box with a brand new part sitting around when mine was kinda pissing me off everytime I got in the car. So I installed it! It is seriously crazy how different the plastic looks and feels. I cannot imagine what a brand new 2g interior looked / felt like. It is almost matte and kind of feels soft to the touch, it is strange..

Messing around with the wiring harness. Figure after 500 miles or so it is time to wrap up the wiring harness.

De-pinning all the connectors and looming the branches, wrapping the main harness in fabric tape. The AEM connectors are HARD to depin... anyone have any tips haha?

Wanna do mine? i don't have the patience for this LOL

Weather was nice so I got around to finishing my harness and some other stuff. I realized I threw away the boot at the firewall for the main engine harness so I had to find someone willing to sell me one. Finally got that in.

I de-pinned everything and shrink tubed and loomed all the individual plugs, and tessa taped the main harness, just personal preference. I had to test this harness like 4 times every time I de-pinned something and installed it again because I wanted to make sure it was absolutely 100% before I finalized it and installed it. Here are some pics!

You can see some other stuff like power cables and sensor plug terminations through the firewall. I'm pretty happy with how everything is done back here. Nice and organized.

After all of the wiring stuff was done I finalllyyyy got my hand on some un-broken side splash shields for a 2G turbo. These were impossible to find for whatever reason..

After talking with a ton of people, I settled on cleaning the shit out of them with degreaser and then sanded with 3,000 grit sanding pads to knock down some junk and stains that were imbedded in the plastic.

After cleaning and sanding I ceramic coated them with amazing results. I don't think I could have done much better than this to look as close to new as possible. Just need to do all the other splash shields now.. Lol. I also have to find the rubber plugs that go in these and make sure I have all the correct clips. I'm going to attempt to not trim them for my intercooler piping, or at least trim them the absolute minimal amount. TBD. Peace!

When this car is brought to the shootout, I swear on Odin the Allfather if no one gets "partout?" stickers or shirts or hats made I am going to go postal. I will move heaven and Earth to attend that one. :p

Would be a real treat to see this thing in person it would really give a lot of us to see what can be done. Assuming you find great parts and a vision and a good foundation still really classy build.

Will this make an appearance at the Shootout 2026?
No chance this happens. One of the plastic clips might not be period correct so it can’t be seen in public.

If @AndrewG let's me chip in for a double trailer it would be there... I'm not driving it there anymore that's for sure haha
You still wouldn’t.

I didn't know you could get custom collectors? I'm guessing you have to pay extra for that? It looks good.
Well I already had a personalized plate, I just transferred the plate type to a "collector" type. I think it was just $20 or something for the plate fee!
