A few weeks i was bored on a sunday morning and decided to finally paint the door trims and door handles. It came out alright for 30 bucks and 2 hours of my time. It's been so cold outside so motivation for doing anything on the car is at a low. I have a leak that has formed on the passenger footwell area which i need to figure out. Besides that every so often i start it and take it out for a spin then back in the driveway it goes LOL.

I always wondered why some of my favorite builds i followed when i was young and looking up too took so long to get updates and now that i'm at the age to buy whatever i want i actually understand. There is just limited time the older we get. :idontknow: Anyway i took a month off and finally got back on it. I ended up finding what was causing the leak on the passenger side. I had a whole ecosystem of leaves and other debris in between the fender and frame so water was just pooling in that area and pissing into the interior. So that has been fixed. I got off early and wanted to go through my volvo wiring to see what caused the failure since i was over the no power steering in the car. I found the culprit. When i striped the end of the inline fuse i didn't strip it far back enough and was basically half on wire and half on the sheathing. Live and learn i guess. I fixed that and low and behold the pump turns on. I redid the wiring temporarily until the tlx 8 gauge and new connector come in so i can fix it properly. But It works. I finally picked up a MCR 160 amp alternator and my friend gave me a old jays relocation kit that was missing the tensioning bar. So i ordered the wiring and i'm in the air weather buying couplings with the appropriate right and left hand thread or just buying some hexagon bar and tapping it myself. I still haven't made up my mind. Here is a semi newish engine bay pic since no one likes updates without pics LOL. I have quite a few more things i have been working on but i've been lazy on taking pics so i will revisit on my next update.

Well i've been jumping from interior to exterior but the car has been coming along. I finally added a resonator to the exhaust but i don't like the shape of the muffler so i will be changing that shortly. I ended up getting a vibrant 18" resonator and it definitely helped with the resonation in the cabin. I was going to bring the mid pipe to work and just have one of the guys do it for me but my inpatient self ended up doing it at home struggling LOL. My helmet is at my office and didn't feel like going back there so i just had my sister help me. I set up the correct amperage and we did a manual pulse with no helmet just reposition after each pulse. It came out better then expected LOL. I ended up making my own tensioning bar for the jays kit but didn't take any pics. I ordered a 150 amp breaker for the install so in the meantime while waiting for it wanted to make the car more practical for cruising so i added a wedge style sub and amp. I can finally cruise with some tunes sounding nice and full. I was deciding on getting a double din but just didn't feel like it would be practical since i drive it maybe a few times a month. So i figured i would make a gauge pod to fit in the empty single din slot. This is my 3rd revision but it sits perfectly with the oem bezel. I will be reprinting in different filament. I'm in the middle of doing the relocation for the alternator so next update i will show the issues i've ran into but i figured out.

Great Build! any chance you still have that file for the fuel filter holder? that things sweet looking.

Figured i would update. I haven't done too much. I redid my power steering lines since i swapped in a mcr 160 amp and mounted it in the rear. The biggest pain in the ass is getting it aligned with the crank and water pump pulley. It threw the belt while on a cruise because the nut backed out so now i have a nylock on the long alternator bolt as well. I did pick up a new belt as well as a evospec water pump pulley but have been deterred from installing it since i lack the patience i used to have to be working in such a tight area LOL. I now hold a solid 14.6 at idle at night with everything on and even logged it while making turns since the volvo pump amps spike when you get it to lockout. I also redid the harness for the volvo harness to tlx 8 gauge. I do have sensors for both fuel pressure and oil pressure but i only have one extra input so i was going to build a switch so i can swap them on the fly while logging but i find myself never bringing the laptop with me so i just bit the bullet and bought a boost and oil pressure gauge so i can have an idea of what's going on. I already had an x series wideband in the glove box so i decided to buy the matching aem boost and oil gauges. Unfortunately the gauges have the biggest bezels of all gauges i've owned so the gauge pod i was working on didn't work since the were hitting the bezel. So i redid them from scratch with the aem gauges in mind. I'm currently on my 4th revision but am going to make two more little tweaks so my locking tabs click in. I did bring my v4 model home this weekend so i can test fit it in the car as well as wiring up the gauges and moving the harness for the wideband. I was also having an issue with my relay for the fuel pump getting extremely hot and dieing. It was originally my dtp connector that got damaged from a loose ground. So after replacing the connector the next week spot showed up and after some searching corrosion and a bad connector in the relay connector was the culprit. I ordered a new relay with long leads and just redid everything and after a decently long cruise tonight no issues so far. I really want to get the car sprayed but also want to switch over to haltech uhhh.

So i ended up getting the push lock fittings i needed to get my boost gauge working since in the last pic it was only wired up. When running the harness for the oil pressure sensor i was talking to a friend on the phone and forgot to secure the harness and on my first test drive the gauge went dead and i couldn't figure out why. Next day i looked to see what happened and the alternator caught it and shredded it LOL. I was going to order a new harness for the gauge but come to find out they are not available. Luckily i was just able to use my old harness for my oil pressure sensor and just spliced it into the aem harness.

So last year i couldn't drive my galant to the shootout since i was having issues with the motor. This year i got the itch to drive it again. So i've been dailying it to work to see if i can iron out any issues that might arise on such a long drive. i've always had a slight leak if i overfilled the gas tank but didn't think much of it. It was gotten worse and when i filled up this week with only 10 gallons it had a drip to it. So i jack it up and start inspecting and come to find out it dry rotted right where it slips over on the tank . I wanted to try and cut it and slip it back over so i would leak all the gas i just put in. In my head it seemed like a great and easy temp fix. In reality it was a terrible idea and after talking a bath in e85 and losing half my tank in the driveway i gave up and just took the neck out completely.I did order new hose and will update this tomorrow when i get that on.

I swapped over to a radium engineering fuel rail. I couldn't find any other people with them on any dsm or gvr4. I am a big fan of there products and their quality is 2nd to none. I have seen there rails on other platforms and i liked fuel pressure gauge on the rail and there rail mounted regulator. I knew the regulator wouldn't work but i was curious if the gauge would look good on our motor.
PXL_20250823_212628670.MP.jpg

It looked okay but kinda stuck out. I thought about getting a 45* fitting to get it facing forward a bit . In the end i liked the way the rail looked with nothing on it so i threw the gauge on my fpr and mounted it further down and away. I just need to make a new return line now. I need to also make a new bracket for the coil pack. I like the location but want it sitting slightly lower and have a provision for the transistor. Well see what i come up with.

I run the Radium rail with the DM regulator in my DSM with a 1G head and intake. I absolutely love it.
IMG_7759.jpeg

I found a cap for the regulator dial - just in case people get touchy feely at a car show etc.. (also, there might be some frowny faces at the smog check if they see a non-stock adjustable regulator installed)
I did have to cut a semi circle off the top edge of the silver TB cover to accommodate.

no, it actually clears the tin rear timing cover. Only the top plastic cover needed to be trimmed
Nice. If I ever build another car i might go that route.

I ended up finally fixing the fuel filler neck. The neck is no longer made. I was going to make one out of stainless tubing but then i was torn on what coupler to use that's when i found this hose. It's rated for ethanol and anything thing else i would ever run. The hose is a Continental - 58524. It bends without collapsing. It is a pain in the ass to get it fit but it worked perfect. I have a 2.5 gap between the tire so no worries on it being to close.

I still need to redo the return since i messed up one of the fittings getting them installed:banghead:

A few small updates. With the colder weather a started feeling my clutch slip twice when i bumped the boost so i swapped to something rated for the tq. It was a great time to do the axle seals on both sides since my transmission was wet from a leaking seal and have been putting it off for a bit. I also finally swapped to a radium fitting on the return side of my fuel rail so now it's not right next to the timing cover plate.

I was also finally able to get a few friends schedule to line up to go for a cruise. One of them couldn't make it to the end. As of this past weekend i sprung a leak at the thermostat housing. I have been using the silicone gaskets from a guy who makes them for the platform. I like the idea of them being reusable but for some things it's been a pain in the ass since now the bolts want to back out since they can't get torque the same as if it was plain rtv or a gasket. The bolts were a bit loose so the following day i took it apart and added rtv to the gasket since a tear wasn't visible. I waited 24 hrs to let it cure and try again and now it's leaking from the bottom. I take it all apart and sure enough it cracked the housing by the lower ear. II'll get another housing. The plus is that it will make me finish up a couple things i have been wanting to do in that area.

I got a new set of continental extreme contacts since the ones i put on where from another car since i wasn't sure on fitment. The old ones would spin in 2nd and 3rd which was funny till it wasn't LOL.
PXL_20251112_233915345.jpg

Switched to topline lifters. While i was at it i finally installed these magnus cam gears i picked up during the shootout. Also installed 3d creations stud kit. Picked up arp cam bolts to complaint the gears.

PXL_20251116_000453899.jpg

I also finally got around to installing the oem connectors i ordered god knows how long ago.
PXL_20251110_213839365.jpg

I need to get a spare driver side motor mount to make a jig from it and remake it out of 304 since i think it would like nice. I'll take pics of the engine bay once it clears up it's been cloudy and rainy the last couple times i had time to work on it.

Well unfortunately when i had that leak at the thermostat during some fun on the way home from a few weeks back i thought the quick spike in temp didn't hurt the gasket but it did and i was in denial LOL. My head has been shaved a few times so i didn't want to risk being told it was too thin to mill again so i just sourced out another 2g head which happened to be identical to my head with springs and all. So after a not so quick head swap i was back in action.LOL
PXL_20251128_172555524.jpg

The only thing i found during the head swap was that my heater core hoses have seen better days so i sourced some some silicone ones and put it on my to do list. The car was driving fine but after sitting for a few days of not driving i figured i would drive it do grab some pizza on a sunday night after a snow shower. The place was only a mile away but i told myself once it rained and cleaned the streets i would bring it through the car was to clean the underside.
PXL_20251215_004918960.PORTRAIT.jpg

Well fast forward till it finally letting up and it raining to clean the roads i figured i would finally wash it like i originally planned to. On the way home i was having some fun with the car and when i pulled up to my house and started backing up into the driveway i noticed a quick puff from the engine bay and figured the heater core hose the looked suspect was leaking because i noticed a drip coming from under the car. Once i park and get my phone out to look to see what was leaking i noticed it was oil and it was pouring out quickly. I grabbed a pan from the back but the mess had been done. It was too dark to look underneath on saturday night so monday after work i finally had some motivation to see what let go. I originally thought maybe my axle seal since it was coming from the passenger side transmission and was going to order new seals earlier in the day but wanted to verify. Unfortunately it was not the axle seal but cracks in the case. I didn't care to look anymore into it since i was already annoyed with the idea of having to work on this car anymore this winter.

PXL_20251222_211917220.MP.jpg

I took some time to calm my self because my first thought was to part the car out LOL. I feel like most of us who have been around these cars long enough feel the same way when shit breaks that you didn't feel like tackling. I spoke to one of the members on here to rebuild my spare trans. If i'm going to go through the trouble of taking it out again might as well rebuild it. I also happened to talk to another friend who happens to have a 90 trans laying in his garage. It's a small amount of us still messing with these cars so he just let me have it which i'm grateful for. So today before this huge snowstorm i figured i would go pick up both transmissions. One was at a friends house who i let borrow my spare trans when he blew his personal trans and the other another 20 mins from him but this snow storm which wasn't a bluff for once turned a 1 hour trip into a 3 hour trip:cry:. I'll start getting both of them prepped next week since this holiday mess and now this snowstorm is going to delay everything. My friend who had my spare trans happened to have a a 22 spline t case since i only have 23 count stuff laying around so now i'm not stuck looking for a t case as well.🙏

I finally got around to tearing the car apart and the crack that i had ended up being a lot bigger than expected. I haven't had a chance to tear the transmission open to be certain but looks like the diff broke and took the case out :idontknow:
Adobe Express - file.jpg

I finally got the other transmission in. I ended up reusing my my arms from my 91+ transmission.

PXL_20260114_010529630 (1).jpg

I was skeptical of the transmission since it was sitting in my friends backyard for awhile. So after getting it installed i threw in some syncromesh for a flush. I took it to work the next day and when i got home a drained it and threw in some motul. It's a little notchy but it's getting better with more driving time . I also shipped my transmission out so it should be done in march/april time frame. I did daily the car for a week but those cold starts with the weather being in single digits and being on e85 with no isc is not fun LOL . After my test trail of dailying the car it's back to using my daily and the galant a weekend only car until it gets a little warmer.

PXL_20260214_042753998.NIGHT (1).jpg

I've been toying with the idea of getting my 90's tint and redoing them or leaving them off i'm torn because i love the look of my friends galant with no tints but i also don't like the idea of people looking into my car when i park it.:idontknow:

Always love the updates, what a crazy failure!
I know. I am pretty easy on my cars nowadays but even when i was younger and beat them never had this sorta failure. But at the end of the day it's a mitsubishi and i'm not even surprised LOL.

I can tell you what that is. Any sort of FOD gets in there its close tolerance. Busts the case. Usually a chipped tooth wedges itself. Happened to a friend of mine.
