Honestly, all I have to do to get my auto car back on the road (hell, I'm paying tags and taxes), is do the first part, get the mainshaft out and replace it then reassemble as is. Getting older isn't fun and neither is getting that trans out, although it is easier than a 5 speed.
Hey, a tip on the auto trans case. See that "loop" on the top of the case, kinda in the middle. Attach your lift there and it is almost perfectly balanced straight. 👌

I watched Darren Thomas use that loop and went "I'll be damned" :ohdamn:
I will apologize now for using your name in this teardown video...... :D I was just pokin fun at ya! ✌️

I gotta strip anything that isn't necessary and most that is unbolted or unhooked already. The dash is just sitting in it. Door panels and interior stuff is great but all needs to go. Fuel cell because the last titled owner never transfered it to his name. Its been signed and dated and never changed so it is a strip only car (dammit, I wanted to drive around with a Chute).
2.0L Auto NOS Shot and 60 or 62mm turbo I have. I need a T3 manifold tho. I guess many little and big things to go racing and let my boys drive it if I don't. Link V3 and I have a harness so that's here. Needs a set of rods and pistons and a head reman.
I have no idea if either of my spare transmissions work is why I'm following the progress Jeremy. 👍

Look into a bonded title, Marty. Nice easy workaround if your state has one.

I will ask about that, thanks! ✌️
It would be nice to just have the car in my name.

Made some more progress today, I’m not going any farther until I get my service manual, as some of these parts I’m not even sure what they are yet LOL
IMG_2801.jpeg
This Portion of removal I followed the Bob Breach method from his YouTube video, used a flat head screwdriver to remove this spring, then out came the next unit before the planetarys.
IMG_2803.jpeg
IMG_2804.jpeg
And finally the planetarys, they look great!
IMG_2805.jpeg
I also re did my oil squirter block offs with this loctite retaining compound :thumb:
IMG_2807.jpeg
Here’s my work station currently LOL

Doin good man! :thumb: Did I miss the OD pack removal?
How do the output shaft splines look for the transfer case? It's something I tend to look at when I was grabbing partouts.

Thanks Marty! No I haven’t removed the OD yet, there’s some frictions that’ll come out next, I’m not sure if they’re part of low/reverse? Definitely not O/D, but like I said once my service manual shows up tomorrow I’ll know exactly what everything is I’m removing LOL,
IMG_2809.jpeg
I think my output shaft looks okay?

Yep it looks fine.
Ya know, I had that manual and LOST it somehow. I can't find it anywhere with my library of FSM's. 🤔
When you take the OD cover off, the pack may just FALL out, so be ready. It goes onto the end of the mainshaft.

So my next step was pulling the low/reverse frictions, pretty sure that’s what they are LOL
IMG_2811.jpeg
These literally came out by hand.
IMG_2812.jpeg
The frictions were black LOL. I’m stopping here until I’m able to pressure wash this case, my next step would be the End Clutch cover removal, there’s so much dirt/crud around it and the center diff cover I don’t want to risk getting dirt inside the trans, my brother n law is bringing his pressure washer over this Saturday and I’ll finally finish cleaning this dirty ole girl up, but I gotta say, despite being dirty on the outside, everything’s looking great on the inside.
IMG_2813.jpeg
IMG_2814.jpeg

Well yesterday I finally got ahold of a pressure washer and gave this ole trans a much needed bath LOL

Before

After

IMG_2833.jpeg
I also used my wire brushes as best I could, it’s a lot better than it was LOL, I was happy. Today I went ahead and sprayed the primer and paint and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
IMG_2845.jpeg
Here she is after 3 coats of primer. Followed up by the 3 coats of paint :thumb:

IMG_2849.jpeg
I’ll still spray/clean up the underside sometime soon, but I think she’s coming along nicely:)

And I use Krylon Dull Aluminum #1403.
All good options and yours looks great.
NOW....It better run as good as it looks!!! 😎

Hey guys! Yesterday I continued on with the tear down.
IMG_2871.jpeg
Really the only thing left was the end clutch removal and Center Diff, the end clutch removal was super easy.
IMG_2873.jpeg
IMG_2872.jpeg
Next up for the center diff I went ahead and pulled the idler cover, I’m gonna spray that next LOL, and worked on removing the idler gear.
IMG_2879.jpeg
I just used a flat head to fold the tabs back on the retainer clip, then used the impact with a 17mm socket to back out the bolt.
IMG_2882.jpeg
Then I used an OE bolt out of my stash to back out the retainer for the idler gear.
IMG_2883.jpeg
IMG_2884.jpeg
And she’s out!
IMG_2885.jpeg
I have to mention I was following the tips of an old thread on here ill post up, this next part, for the tapered bearing and driven gear I was able to just pull it out as mentioned in the thread, it wasn’t easy per se, when it let go it sounded like it had some vacuum behind it LOL
IMG_2887.jpeg
IMG_2889.jpeg
With the bolt threaded into the diff, I tried to pry it out, but it wasn’t happening LOL, so I need to buy a slide hammer to “pop” it out I guess, anyways that’s where she’s at:thumb:

Fantastic documentation! :hellyeah:
