Where’s the spark plug cover from again? Need one to go with mine eventuallyView attachment 753600Not an update. Just a pic
, but unfortunately I also saw what looks like bearing material, not a lot, but enough to make me want to pull the engine and tear it down for a refresh. I can make a few small upgrades, like bigger wrist pins, and those head stud inserts from tmz, along with all the oil pressure mods, as once I completely block off the squirters the oil pressure will be even higher
.
.What happened at the trans end of that oil pan? It looks like something beat the hell out of itWelp, finally pulled the oil pan today, and sure enough the other 2 oil squirters were in there, but unfortunately I also saw what looks like bearing material, not a lot, but enough to make me want to pull the engine and tear it down for a refresh. Oil pressure was normal and it sounded fine, I thought about just doing a flush the next time I start it, but wherever that material came from is only going to continue to wear, at this point I should still be able to re use my crank, rods and pistons, she’ll just get re honed, re ringed, upgraded pins and a new owner..

That was my pry barWhat happened at the trans end of that oil pan? It looks like something beat the hell out of it

No sir I was just kiddingWhat?!
Well I think you are doing the right thing blocking off the squirters though.
What's with "new owner"? Are you going to sell it ... again?

That's unfortunate but honestly a good catch. Better to tear it down now while there's little to no damage and still be able to reuse parts.Well gents, today confirmed what I feared. Truth be told I wasn’t 100% certain I was going to pull the motor until I cut open the oil filter. Its funny all these years with a dsm and I just now got a cutter off Amazon along with a distribution block.View attachment 755061Using the cutter wasn’t to bad, similar to a copper cutting tool, anyways here’s what the oil looked likeView attachment 755062View attachment 755063Oddly enough I couldn’t really make out any bearing looking material in the filter paper, just some specs of black/metal that look like they came from the filter itself. I’m thankful I got a few years out of this motor, 1300 miles or so, I’m still assuming the broken oil squirters had a part to play. I’m honestly looking forward to tearing down the block and taking a look at the bearings, this also brings the opportunity to upgrade my wrist pins and lifters. I hope to be able to re use the crank/rods/pistons. Work is slow for me this time of year so I have plenty of time to wrench on the car, I might be able to pull the motor this weekend who knows..

, either way the motors coming out, I’m hoping to be able to re use as many parts as possible, we’ll see!
, those turbo tuff rods are the single most expensive part in the engine
, atleast they’ll never grow weary and fatigue like an aluminum rod! Bearings are cheaper than rods…and windowed blocks
, I’m kinda wanting to pull it just to re fresh it, upgrade wrist pins, maybe get some of those head inserts tmz sells along with getting some better lifters than my top line ones, but again it’s just more money on top of the auto swap

, half the fun of these things is tearing into them
Did the pistons hit the squirters and break them or did they fall out? Either way they need blocked off.But again, I’m kinda wanting to pull it just to re fresh it, upgrade wrist pins, maybe get some of those head inserts tmz sells along with getting some better lifters than my top line ones, but again it’s just more money on top of the auto swap

Curious as to why you say they need blocked off?Either way they need blocked off.
I’m assuming he’s implying that because they’re all broken in my engineCurious as to why you say they need blocked off?
, I know it’s somewhat of a debate if you need oil squirters with forged pistons anyways, I’m certainly not worried about them with weekend spirited driving.I've still got mine in and they're all intact, thankfully. It was difficult to get them sorted around the aluminum rods and pistons..I’m assuming he’s implying that because they’re all broken in my engine, I know it’s somewhat of a debate if you need oil squirters with forged pistons anyways, I’m certainly not worried about them with weekend spirited driving.
