Test fit it on your converter before installing it in the crank, I mean, just to be 💯 sure. :thumb:
Coming along nicely, to a DSM near you! ROFL

Welp, finally pulled the oil pan today, and sure enough the other 2 oil squirters were in there LOL, but unfortunately I also saw what looks like bearing material, not a lot, but enough to make me want to pull the engine and tear it down for a refresh. I can make a few small upgrades, like bigger wrist pins, and those head stud inserts from tmz, along with all the oil pressure mods, as once I completely block off the squirters the oil pressure will be even higher LOL.

Zoom in to the middle of the pan and you can see the bearing material.

This engine didn’t fail, I posted the video of it idling right after I installed the new valve cover and isc. Oil pressure was normal and it sounded fine, I thought about just doing a flush the next time I start it, but wherever that material came from is only going to continue to wear, at this point I should still be able to re use my crank, rods and pistons, she’ll just get re honed, re ringed, upgraded pins and a new owner..

SYKE!! J/K LOL.

What happened at the trans end of that oil pan? It looks like something beat the hell out of it LOL

What?!
Well I think you are doing the right thing blocking off the squirters though.
What's with "new owner"? Are you going to sell it ... again?

That was my pry bar LOL

No sir I was just kidding LOL

It’s always fun to tear down a motor :hellyeah:

Well gents, today confirmed what I feared. Truth be told I wasn’t 100% certain I was going to pull the motor until I cut open the oil filter. Its funny all these years with a dsm and I just now got a cutter off Amazon along with a distribution block.
IMG_2155.jpeg
Using the cutter wasn’t to bad, similar to a copper cutting tool, anyways here’s what the oil looked like:cry:

Oddly enough I couldn’t really make out any bearing looking material in the filter paper, just some specs of black/metal that look like they came from the filter itself. I’m thankful I got a few years out of this motor, 1300 miles or so, I’m still assuming the broken oil squirters had a part to play. I’m honestly looking forward to tearing down the block and taking a look at the bearings, this also brings the opportunity to upgrade my wrist pins and lifters. I hope to be able to re use the crank/rods/pistons. Work is slow for me this time of year so I have plenty of time to wrench on the car, I might be able to pull the motor this weekend who knows..

That's unfortunate but honestly a good catch. Better to tear it down now while there's little to no damage and still be able to reuse parts.

What do you think that stuff is? Leftovers from a valve cover blast, coating from the inside of the oil pan, hmmm. Dam good catch man!
I had newish Red Vette come by here today and revved the piss outta her so I went fishing, no luck........ ROFL

You have the HARD PARTS just the soft stuff will be all ya need Jeremy. Trying to be positive here buddy! :thumb:

I think you are overthinking what you found in the oil filter and pan. I have seen and ran far worse. I would have a better gauge seeing it in person but, those pictures look just fine to me. You do realize some debris isn’t abnormal, right? I really don’t think I ever have perfect oil inspections.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you start pulling rod caps.

Well Holy Crap Steven if you think the motors okay I trust you, again, I posted a video in September of the last idle and oil pressure was normal and it sounded fine, I admit I’m just assuming here..

But again LOL, I’m kinda wanting to pull it just to re fresh it, upgrade wrist pins, maybe get some of those head inserts tmz sells along with getting some better lifters than my top line ones, but again it’s just more money on top of the auto swap :idontknow:

Here’s her last idle with 3 broken oil squirters in the pan LOL

Im definitely still pulling it LOL, half the fun of these things is tearing into them :rocks:

Did the pistons hit the squirters and break them or did they fall out? Either way they need blocked off.

I am not saying you don’t need the head dowels but, I have never used a single set and have used some high torque values before. And this is on many 800-1100hp cars.

What is the oil pressure?

What pins do you have and what are you moving to? I run .230-.235” in everything I put together. I even stepped up to .250” in my 3800 this last go around.

I cannot comment on the top line lifters as I have only ever used 1G/2G lifters. I prefer 1G small hole lifters if I can get my hands on them. Used or not.

I can’t say for sure how or why the squirters broke just yet, I would’ve thought if it was a clearance issue with the piston they would’ve broken long ago but who knows, and I agree I may not need the dowels either, I’ll also check the head to see if it looks like the washers were pressing in to it at 110ft lbs. Oil pressure would always settle around 28 psi or so once warmed up, 23-24 psi after ripping on it, this is on 10w-40 conventional. The current wrist pins are the .210 “extreme duty” in the manley’s, they sell a 21mm “turbo tuff” .250 I was going to upgrade to, might be over kill, but anyways I will definitely be doing a proper block off of the squirters:)

As for the lifters, lately I’d been getting some lifter tick, thinking maybe the GSC ones might be better than the top line? One question I have for you Steven is what bearings would you recommend? I believe I currently have King bearings as that’s what I asked the machine shop to use, however I know they’re currently unavailable, but say between ACL, Clevite any suggestions? Thanks again :thumb:

Curious as to why you say they need blocked off?
I’m assuming he’s implying that because they’re all broken in my engine LOL, I know it’s somewhat of a debate if you need oil squirters with forged pistons anyways, I’m certainly not worried about them with weekend spirited driving.

I've still got mine in and they're all intact, thankfully. It was difficult to get them sorted around the aluminum rods and pistons..
