400hp AWD DD Spyder Build

You should really reconsider the awd 5 speed swap. Cars with mileage like that have value because they are getting so hard to find. The auto will win races, a 5 speed will impress 16 year old kids.

As far as value goes I'm not planning on selling this car. Maybe if 15 years down the road you can't find parts anywhere but I'm planning to keep it and I'm not really planning to race the car, maybe take it to the strip one or twice or try autocross but it's mostly just to be a fun daily which is why I want to swap to 5 speed

Oh man my spyder is a POS compared to yours and I fight everyday to keep it stock and mint as possible. That car is absolutely mint. Buy a shell and throw your own engine and trans into it. You'll have the advantage of being able to make more than 400 whp, and you wont have to worry about doing any trans and awd swaps. Your car is a beauty. You got it at a great price, and plenty of people here would kill for that car at that price; reason being that its clean, stock, and low mileage. To me the whole purpose of buying a low mileage and clean car would be to appreciate it for what it is. DSMs are few and far between, and chances are that when you see one, it'll have an ebay 16g and an obnoxious bov on it. in 10 years that car will be worth 10k easily. If you do awd and 5 speed swaps, I put it at 3-4k max. Trust me, that low mileage engine wont seem very low mileage after its running 400 hp worth of boost on a completely stock block. My .02 cent is don't molest the car, its in great shape and its easy to appreciate. Sell it for a profit and pick yourself up a higher mileage spyder or GSX and start from there. Doing all these mods to the car is only going to depreciate its value and shorten its longevity. Im learning just like you are. I'm 17 and brand new in the DSM game, but I can still tell you that AWD and 5 speed swaps are not easy to do correctly, and can easily create problems for you in the future. Not to mention the fact that AWD swaps alone typically take about 80 hours of work for someone who is mechanically inclined, and seeing as how you need to daily drive this car, I don't see that being a feasible option. I don't mean to knock what you're doing, honestly. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it just breaks my heart to see such a clean car in a condition almost impossible to find nowadays being molested so quickly. If you want a quick daily driver, you'll be able to find a tastefully modded car for sale that has potential for 400 whp with little work. If you're dead set on making this car an awd, 5-speed swapped, stock engine, 400 whp car, you're going to have to spend a lot of money and a lot of your time on it. You have a great car. Its completely unmolested, mint, easy to appreciate, and it'll likely run for longer than you'll want it. I think you'll find that 210 hp in a convertible coupe is easy to enjoy, especially when its so clean and looks so good. Trust me, I wouldn't write this much if I didn't mean everything I said. I don't mean any offense, but take this advice from a fellow spyder owner; drive the car for a while how it is, if you don't think its enough power for you, sell it, and buy a tastefully modded gsx.

Do you take any pics of the evo x license plate bracket installed? I'm debating going that route myself but there aren't too many great pictures of it on this site.

Great find, car is in near perfect condition. It's almost physically painful to see the NY road salt covering the immaculate undercarrige

I knoww it kills me too. This will be the last and only year it'll ever see it and i wash it CONSTANTLY and will be doing a real good inspection/cleaning of everything when it gets warmer.

I appreciate the words and honestly i"m getting a little tired of hearing about molesting the car but I have been thinking about picking up a gsx shell and building it since i'm joining the coast guard but I'm not so sure that a car like this would actually appreciate in value. Regardless if I ended up getting stationed somewhere warm I'd use this as my "daily" even though I'd live on a base and than build a gsx or tsi awd. Still don't see how I'm molesting this car. All I've done is HID's, exhaust, a plate mount and now wheels? All pretty easily reversible

If someone offered me the right amount I'd consider selling it. I've debated putting it on CL since no one on here thinks I'm doing the right thing LOL

Here's the best I can do now. If you want to PM me your email i'll take a few tomorrow and email them to you.

I'd have to agree with you, dsm's more then likely won't go up in value virtually at all or at lest in the next decade. The EVO will but the eclipse/talon's no. My supra is tho and that's only because it has a few things going for it, it was the first model to finally make the supra a popular car, availability (not many left), and its the car most older generations had in high school etc. That wont hit the dsm community for a good decade yet.

People tend to forget that a sports car is meant to be driven, not looked at and obsessed over. There meant to be driven and enjoyed or what the heck's the point of owning them. As I like to say time and place, time and place......that's what I always think before I decide to take a corner fast or sideways or mess around.

Your Car man ENJOY IT THE WAY YOU WANT TO! forget what the other people say, I know there's a lot more low mileage clean dsm's out there just waiting to surface, it just takes time.

Keep up the good work man. :thumb:

Someone who agrees with me! I bought the car for $5,000. It's not a $50,000 car nor will it EVER be worth that much. I'd like to enjoy the car for what it is. I didn't buy the car so I could store it away in a garage somewhere and blow the dust off of it in 10 years so I can maybe make $3,000! The reason i fell in love with the car is because all I hear is you need to find a good body to start off with because the body's more important than anything mechanical and in my mind I couldn't of found a better body! Anywhere I really appreciate and agree with everything you said! It's my car and I'll do what I want with it. Believe it or not people but this car was on CL in florida for over 2 months before I bought it so excuse me if you guys missed out. Thanks again buhay :D

Wheels, Tires & Suspension
March 20th-25th, 2014

So now that everything is on the car I'm real happy with my setup. I purchased some XXR 530s which are 17 x 8.25 , yes I know they are knock offs. I'm a college student and probably make $8,000 a year. I also ordered some tires off tire rack. I decided to go with 225/45ZR17 BFGoodrich GForce Sport COMP-2s. This setup keeps me real close to stock so it does not mess with the speedo or odometer. When these came in I brought them down to a local Porsche race car shop and had them mount the tires up. The new machine they have actually does not touch the wheel at all and after a bad experience at Mavis with my wheels getting scratched I wasn't going to be taking any chances. Next up was my Koni Yellows and Eibach Springs. For the springs I decided to go with AWD springs so in the coming months I won't have to purchase another pair when I do swap to AWD. Still pretty happy with how it looks now., just need to drop it a little in the rear. Anyway next up is some Rally Armor mud flaps and here's some pictures!

Wheels arrived:

No thanks, keep all he dumped hondas to yourself, even fwd eclipses you can dump, but leave the GSX's at a practical height!

little bit of tire tucks just fine! 2g's look great with no wheel gap, and is still very practical. Plus if you use good suspension to get the center of gravity down it will greatly improve the handling characteristic's over a stock setup.

Yeah I'm planning to keep it at this height, once I swap to AWD the back will drop more and I wanna adjust the front a tiny bit more but otherwise I'm really happy with the handling. A turn at 30mph can be taken at like 45 compared to the stock suspension. Down the road I'll probably go with 18s for wider wheels and to fill the gap a little more. Appreciate the opinions though guys

Spyderdrifter if you want to fill your wheel gap more without slamming your car I'd go with 18s, I love the wheels but would of liked them a little bigger and wider. I'd go with 18 x 8.75 or 18 x 9.75 in my opinion but like I said I'm happy with them. Hope you like yours!

HD Lip, Mud Flaps & Custom Plates
April 3rd, 2014

Quick update. First I ordered custom NY plates that say BCUZ DSM (Because DSM) then I installed my Rally Armor mud flaps they're for an evo 8 and required some drilling and some loving to make them fit up and then I ran to home depot and made myself a front and rear lip. Here's the write up for the HD lip if anyone's interested. The last pics are from today, my buddy came over with his lancer to do some small things. That's it for now :D

Forgot to say that I love the rims before man really help set your cars color off IMO.
Good job on the mudflaps and lips! Don't notice how low your was till you put it beside the Lancer LOL :thumb:

Thanks I appreciate the compliments! Yeah it's actually pretty low but everyone and my girl tries to tell me it's not because of my wheel gap but I literally just went out for food and already scraped and have to tape the lip back on :ohdamn: only lasted 2 days. So thats getting done tomorrow LOL ROFL

400hp AWD DD Spyder Build

In 5 months has installed only HID's, exhaust, a plate mount, wheels, Koni Yellows, Eibach Springs and a pipe dream.

WTF

WTF

I'm also 19 and made a whopping $6,400 last year before taxes (life of a college kid making minimum wage) so sorry if I'm not buying ball bearing turbos and such. I also pay for gas and insurance sooo it's not that easy to get a lot done right now  The title is just my ultimate goal :thumb:

Your title claims to be building something you aren't. In months since the "build" was first started, you have listed a bunch of parts on a wish list but done nothing to install them. We don't even know if you have sourced any of the stuff.

I encourage you to build to your goal, but be realistic. If you think I'm trying to be rude, imagine the responses I'd get if I started a build "Track build: Putting a 4g63T into a Ferrari." The first post would be "All I need is a 4g63T and a Ferrari." 5 months later, I've done some work here and there on a VW Golf, posted a few pictures, but have done absolutely nothing in effort to acquire an engine or chassis to begin my build because I have encountered an unwavering circumstance of the lack of time, finances or knowledge. "Some day I'll do it, I just can't tell you how or when." That's a bunch of "ricer" speak.

If bullying is what you like to call pointing out facts, than I guess I'll graciously accept your derogatory label.

I'm not going to sit here and argue on the internet ROFL Especially when this is a website where we all share the same passion for the same cars we all love. All I have to say is I haven't posted any updates in 2 and a 1/2 months because I'm tired of being bashed no matter what I do. It's either "what are you doing! leave this car completely stock!" or "where's this race car you're supposedly building." I havent posted updates so how can you know what I've done besides the first 2 months i owned it. Sorry i dont meet you expectations bud

As a fellow broke 19 year old i love your car which is saying something since i hate tan soft tops and i think that the people on here took your title too seriously i mean guys hes doin the best he can i make more than he does but you dont see me going and blowing all my money to build something like that in 5 months theres priorities especially with collage.

To the guy with the car your doing a good job and the car is nice man keep it up :thumb:
