hey everybody i have a 96 talon n/a.. right now i have a cheap cold air intake on it with a 75 shot of nitrous.. with that im pushing about give or take 215 horse on the bottle off its probably close to stock and idk what the torque would be.. the motors in really good running condition and nothen wrong with it at all.. im wanting to be at the 3 to 400 mark for power and maybe 2 somthen for torque.. anything that i could do to pull it to that mark?? what parts would get me the best power gains..

A stock 1g turbo can give you the power you want, with a few upgrades, using the stock block, on a healthy enigne 350 400 possibly depends on engine, tuning and so forth.

Buy a different car.

Exactly^^^ It even says that directly on the n/t upgrade paragraph:
"If you're looking to make really big power, it might be more cost effective to just buy a factory turbocharged DSM instead of heavily modifying a non-turbo 1G DSM."

A great suggestion would be to use your 96 n/a as a Daily Driver. Then you can look into a cheap 1g to build as a weekend warrior/project car. I have also seen plenty of 2g shells for cheap if you like the body style better.

But before then, set a goal and do plenty of research before you buy anything. :D

Yes a stock 1g(14b) turbo on a stock 420a block and a goal of 350-400hp = BOOM!!!

Jmonet if you dont have any useful information please move on.. buying a new car is outta the question my question was i my goal is 3 to 400 if it means i boost thats what it means but id like to know another way.. if there is one

its a 2g ppl please get it right i know it doesnt matter but its a 2g 420a engine

Need to know what kind of budget you have set?
Yes its possible, but it will be:
A) More expensive to reach than a 1g/2g stock turbo platform.
B) More expensive to maintain that level of performance for any length of time.
C) More money all the way around...compared to 1g/2g turbo
D) A quick search produces examples of others doing the same thing you are asking about. i.e: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/420...47-portfueler-stage-v-pending-dyno-visit.html
(just an example but look at his mod list...its long, and very expensive)

E) Think about the little things that won't fit right, work right, and break while attempting to reach 3-400 Hp.
F) You need to search instead of calling others out on giving you competent advice.

Lastly its your money/your decision but don't say you were not warned ahead of time of the task at hand.

Ok useful info, the most powerful n/a 420a is right around 220 hp. If you think you car is there right now with just a intake and a shot of nitrous then you sir are a fool. Your block will not handle a turbo well with the high compression pistons you have. You need to upgrade to some forged internals with a lower compression piston to run a turbo with enough boost to get anywhere near 300-400hp. Some other usefull info... You will need to upgrade your entire fuel system to run a turbo along with getting something to tune with. Once you do some research on all the parts you will need you get your car over 300hp you will quickly realize that it will be ALOT cheaper to buy a different car.

Most useful info: sell your sporty neon and buy a real car.

Well first step would be Engine Rebuild time for sure and if its ## DD that becomes a possible problem. If that doesnt matter then start first by pulling the engine and having it rebuilt with some hefty internals and go from there.

It most definately means boost, along with a full bottom end rebuild, and a complete megasquirt system to tune with. Oh and you will also need a heavy duty clutch, and an lsd for the transmission or you will never put any power down to the ground. You didnt list what your budget was, but in order to hit your 3- 400 hp goal your going to have to spend a good deal of money, my guess would be 3-4K, maybe more.

Implying your factory 2.0L qualifies as a "real" car over his...420a's have a 2.4L build just like the 4G63 does so don't try pulling that one. Give me a ####ing break. The only thing that separates them is yours came with forged internals and turbo from the factory, he just needs to add them.

It's not cheaper or practical to sell his car and buy a different model versus building what he has.

It's hilarious how much you guys "think" you know about the 420a. If you're going to compare the car based on what other cars the engine is found in then you have a nice "sporty" Hyundai Sonata.

OP:

You can hit your goals for about $3500 and you will have a fresh forged engine, all NEW turbo components, all NEW tuning/fuel mods (full standalone MS if you choose), NEW clutch. Add another $400 and you'll have an LSD.

So you can take your $3500 and get a tired 4g63 car in worse shape than yours with 150k+ miles that will need maintenance $$$... Or you can spend that money and have a new forged engine ready to go another 100k+, new clutch, as well as new parts that wont need maintenance for a long time.

Yep I know nothing about 420a's. I only owned one for 5 years before buying a real Dsm so don't make assumptions you know nothing about. The potential and aftermarket support for the 4g is FAR greater than that of the 420a. As far as your estimate of $3500 I think again you are assuming that the OP can build an engine himself. I stand by my original statement that you should start with the absolute best platform to mod and that isnt the 420a.

thank you for giving me the answer i was looking for.. one more quick question? whats the stock hp rating for a 420a isnt it like 195ish??

Forged internals in a 4G63 from the factory? Damn, I've been throwing away good money upgrading parts.

No, its 140hp to the crank on a 420a.
Correct- and that's when the engine was new at Chrysler. Throw a couple hundred thousand miles into the mix and add some leaky valve seals along with compression near the service limit and you'll be lucky to see 80whp on most 420A's that are on the highway.

Let's keep the 420A flaming in this thread to a minimum, folks....this is your first verbal warning. Kindly tell the O.P. what he's doing wrong, and explain why. If the arguing continues I'll be handing out infractions for flaming / flamewar retaliation, then the final step is closing the thread.
