1G Aero work for 200MPH DSM

What final/fifth/tire and redline you got?

You've enough power.. but it'll probably take almost 2 miles with "only" 650whp which is about what my .. friends setup was making according to 80-100 times and airflow.

Mike uses the EVO III gear. The math is not there for him to reach the speed he did with a stock gear.

For what its worth, 237mph on a stock tire FWD 5MT comes up at only ~10150rpm, or 9200 with Evo 3 5th.

AWD 1G with Evo 3 5th would do it at ~9500 when extrapolated out from this info per Jacks Trans site:
Jacks Transmissions LLC — EVOIII 1st and 5th RPM and Speed

STOCK 5TH EVO 3 5TH
RPM SPEED SPEED
8000 183.51 200.35
7500 172.04 187.83
7000 160.57 175.31
6500 149.10 162.79
6000 137.63 150.27
3000 68.82 75.13
2500 57.35 62.61
2000 45.88 50.09
1500 34.41 37.57
1000 22.94 25.04

I have enough cam/spring and rotating assembly to do it on paper, but I think it'd take a bit more than the turbo Ive got. It's also a full 12mph beyond my eventual goal.

Somethink like an S475.. which is what Mike was using at one point, no?

I had a 9250 redline on the last setup with low .4xx lift 274/274 cam set and shimmed single springs.. stretched each gear nicely and the noise was biblical LOL

New setup is a bit more serious.

Now that you say that, Steve, you are correct, I remember him saying he has a taller 5th now. But, didn't like it because he would fall outta boost. I guess that it has to be that way to go that fast. ;)

As for boost, it was right around 40lbs. Enough to max out 2150's on e85. Were guessing somewhere around 750.

It's crazy how hard it is to overcome wind drag, take my pass, near 200MPH and took around 700HP, to pick up about 40MPH more it took Mike around 1100-1200 ish, to pick up 30mph more it took LMR and the Hennessey Ford GT over 2000WHP. Wind SUCKS. LOL

Wow 40 psi! Assuming you did not rev it that high in 2nd gear ,it must have been love hearing that motor singing at 9k in 3rd ,4th and 5th gears! 40psi in the mile, wow the 4g63 is some motor and who says an AWD 4 cylinder car can't boogie. I'm a fan guys keep up the good work. I'd love to drive my car in the mile down there.:thumb:

Thanks ceedawg. I've put a ton of work into the car and a lot of money and am happy to have almost reached my goal. The plans for next year is a stronger motor and more power. And maybe a few small things here and there. Looks like I have to add a second fuel rail since the 2150's are maxxed out. :-\ But you gotta pay to play, I guess.

Wow Chicago DSM's representing. :thumb: my car should be done just before I'm hoping.

Nice car for sure! What pumps do you have? I have seen plenty of people make that kind of power on a single rail 2150 setup. Maybe you're out of pump?

Very nice! I showed this to my coworker who races at Bonneville himself and is with the SCTA and he was really impressed.

Question; have you thought about going FWD? The way I see it, you shouldn't be putting additional stress on any components that are likely to break (axles I'd think would be fine in this type of racing) and the reduction in drivetrain loss would be significant. It would really make sense at a place like Bonneville where you have all the room in the world to get up to speed. Maybe the 1 mile distance is just too short for FWD and power like this to make sense.. Thoughts?

What rpm is your redline?

I've never really thought of going FWD. If I were planning on going to Bonneville, then I'd think about it, but my car is going to be strictly for standing mile races. I do however have a friend to is setting up his 2g for Bonneville. Just not sure when he'll get around to it. :(

What rpm is your redline?

Redline is whatever we set it to, that weekend we had it set at 9000. On the last pass, in hopes for 200, we bumped it to 9500. But the transmission let go on us. :( I'll be back next year bigger and faster though.

Just the air dam and side skirts. The mirrors have been deleted. But other than that, that's the only "Aero" work the car has.

Hey man you should put your mods in your profile.:thumb: Impressive. Are you ever going to run the car in the 1/2mile shootout in Chicago or Georgia. I believe they have one in Florida as well.

I say only, because that black dsm that was at the mile when I was down there had a few aero mods done not just side skirts and dam.

That car was limited to rules. And those rules were for the production class. Which basically means no aero work.

However, a full belly pan is the number one way to make your car glide through the air. Their was a roadster Alfa Romero that went right in front of us. It was a lowly 2.2L Alfa motor with just a little HX35. They also had a cover on top of the car that literally covered everything but the driver. They went 230mph with ease.

Impressive!
But your running into the main problem right now: there is no good 5th Gear for a DSM.
Evo3 gears are a little stonger because the have bigger teeth but better than shit is still shit.

I'm glad my fifth gear is holding right now, but sooner or later it will let go again. The problem is that it is just supported on one side, the shaft do twist a little and you get the 5th gear in little pieces.

That is a common problem. Not on DSM-Tuners because most members aren't driving 150mph+ and using 5th gear a lot.
But here in germany its one of the most hated parts on a DSM.

To talk a little aero:
1Gs are very steady at high speeds even in stock form. I'm running NT bumber and stock skirts and my topspeed is about 175mph (lifted because of traffic, w'll try again next year I should be able to reach 185mph @8000upm with slightly bigger wheels than stock).
@175mph the car is very stable also while changing lanes, but I want to cover the belly for anything more than 175mph. I'm afraid that it suddenly will get lifted.

btw. I'm not producing your kinds of power, just have a longer autobahn to get to this kind of speeds.

I doubt I'll make it to the half mile runs anytime soon. But, wouldn't mind it. May come to watch it Mike Reichen ever gets his evo back up and running.

Ben, I'm finding it out about the 5th gear. It sucks we don't have anymore options out here for us. But, I'll have to hope for the best with a double synchro 5th, as I can't afford a dog box.

Calan, thanks for the kind words. I was pretty pleased with how it came out. I wasn't sure I wanted to use the white plastic or black. But am glad I went with white after all. I'm actually thinking about redoing it to where I can remove the dam. I'm looking into doing some of the dzus fasteners. As of right now the dam is riveted on.

In germany there are a few ppl who use a straight cut 5th gear, that seems to hold better, maybe that is an option for you?
