As we all know, there is no aero kit for the 2g DSM that is designed for the car and is proven. Not unless you fabricate it yourself and destroy the rear bumper. I have always had an urge to do a rear diffuser, front splitter, undertray, canards, and possibly an APR wing to top it all off. However being that no one makes a full kit, I considered making one myself and just going for the look and hope that it doesn't cause lift and functions somewhat. I'm no aerospace engineer, so I couldn't say for sure what was working and what wasn't.

I recently posted in the thread discussing parts that we would like to see for our car just to go out on a limb. @Archer Fabrications said that a company called Velox tossed around the idea and said if there was enough interest that they would design a kit. So I emailed them just to show my interest and tell them that I could see how many people I could find that were also interested. This was their response:

"While we would enjoy making components for the 2g GSX market, we have a hard time believing a readily amount of customers would be willing to pay the costs our products typically come out to. From my experience in the DSM market, it seems like most guys go after the least expensive parts they can find, and unfortunately our products are typically fairly expensive. We currently already fight customers complaining on our prices in new car markets.
I hope you understand our side of this, we're a very small company with limited resources and sinking time and money into the DSM market does not make sense for us at this time. If you can gather 25+ interested people that would be willing to pay what our parts typically cost, we can discuss this further. 25 would be an absolute minimum though.

Thank you greatly for your time and I really appreciate you reaching out to us."

So to cut to the chase, my reasoning for the thread should be obvious. I want to see if there is 30 people on here that would be interested in at least 2 major Aero components. Those two being a rear diffuser and front splitter.
With enough interest and commitment, we may be able to finally have these for our car. The post is currently only for a 2g GSX and not the 1g. This post is also simply a feeler to see who is seriously interested. Because I am! I will be compiling a list of people as interested is shown in this thread.

For a little quick background on the company, Velox motorsports started up in 2014 and consists of a group of engineers who were involved with Indy car, NASCAR, and WEC. They have various products already out for a few platforms with the focus appearing to be on the BRZ/FRS. You can view these parts on their website at http://www.velox-motorsports.com/

Their site also has the test results, specs, and performances increases of all of their products for the BRZ and is actually quite interesting.

If you would like to see these parts made for our vehicles that will suit well on the street as well as for a track day, while maintaining a visually appealing presence, show your interest on this forum so I can send it to them if we spark enough interest. Thanks for looking.

Good luck! i hope the people that wanted this step up! I personally am not looking for aero on my car but i know there are guys here that want good functional aero!

This shop is somewhat local to me (40 mins) but i havnt been there before.

Have you contacted carbonetics carbonfiber? They have all kind of parts for 1g and 2g dsm! I'm sure they could throw in undertray and diffusers. Matter fact they are working on a wide body kit for 2g dsm right now which is way more complex. I would check them out too just because they are hardcore dsmer at heart.

While my reply may not come across how i mean it because i never quite word it right LOL, of course i am no expert on aero but Andrew told me to buy certain books so i have done and reading is fun and hard.

this is going to be tricky because the underside of the car is alot different then the top of the car and is not going to be the same from 1 car to the next and the reason is every car wont have the same ride height or rake or even suspension setup to keep the undertrays working 100% so getting them made is hard,

The front and rears are good to do but wont be as effective as one would like if they want to compete as the fronts would be too short and narrow since i doubt most would run the wider and longer its not going to be road friendly and i think most who buy this will use it on the roads,

Also another thing with a full tray underneath is it can create lift if its not setup correctly, the exhaust system is a pita as it sits low and corrently i. having to redo mine to come out higher in the rear bumper for the diffuser, i now found out i cannot run a full tray in the middle but thats good news for me and 1 less thing to worry about getting right,

If they want to build a front and rear ateast make sure they go to the subframes as a minimum if its going to be done it might aswell be do e right and everyone will have to refabricate to work around it as it certainly wont be a bolt on affair with the stock routing rear system.

Two words. Andrew Brilliant.

Ok. More than two words, but you wont pay how much he wants and you'll have a hell of a hard time trying to convince him to make more. Track proven aero that works.

Im interested in see what can be created. The reason i got back in the DSM game was because there is so much new tech and products out, that I could actually build a dsm the way I have always wanted too. ie carbonetics, Ohm, and the freelance suspension stuff.

SO yes I am interested.

What books are they if you don't mind me asking?

This is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm not looking to be as serious as the AB Aero Kit, so this would be perfect. I am absolutely interested.
I grabbed this one from Simon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/18...i=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=mcbeath figured i would since i also bought his SM132 wing recently and might aswell grab the book by the man who designed and tested the aero of the wing and aero etc.

The other is https://www.amazon.co.uk/Race-Car-Aerodynamics-Designing-Technical/dp/0837601428 this one is what Andrew said is the better book to read,

Bear in mind all wont give everything away as its still closely guarded secrets in aero but the basis is there and good reads, i dont understand alot of it and most likely never will haha

Aero? Are you competing?

I just want wide front fenders and rear arches. (Or flares will just have to do.)

This would be really great option. Evo has this for a while. OEM fender but just 10-20mm wider. I forgot who made it but it got discontinued.
Looked great on the cars. Fitment was meh honestly cheap fiberglass. Seibon also makes a set.

You just have to read through the bullshit. At first says he only cares about the look with the homemade option, then talks to a company about making a somewhat funtional piece, then reverts back to "visually appealing presence." I think he actually wants a non-funtional "ricer" kit.

I read it first thing when i awoke so i most likely also missed what he originally wants from this AERO kit but it sould be nice to have something for the 2G folks

Just be wary dealing with Carbonetics, I have all but given up on getting the sunroof plug I paid for from the group buy back in 2013.

I'd be interested in a front splitter from Velox. I've met one of their guys, who runs a 1G at the track and an EVO daily. These are guys that understand our cars, but also are guys that put a ton of money into their research and development process making sure their parts offer real improvements, so they have to be careful which platforms they invest in, since they are a small outfit and can't easily take a loss. These are not guys who are into ricer shit at all. They are engineers at heart, and will do the research and testing to make the part work like it should. I would trust one of their kits to actually help my car over anyone making kits for DSM's at the moment.

No. You are misunderstanding what I'm saying. Allow me to elaborate. 90% of aero companies do not wind tunnel test their kits. It is done by mostly computer testing, gas mileage effects, and theories. Which is all fine. But you will never know 100% if its not tunnel tested.

What I am looking for is a kit that I don't have to cut the bumper for. Because it is not a dedicated track car. Most aren't. I want to have a functional part. However I don't need it to be the MOST functional design. Because that would involve cutting out the spare tire well and bumper I would assume. I wouldn't be asking velox to make a kit if I just wanted a "ricer" kit. I would just make my own for way cheaper.

No I am not competing. But I do attend track days. So while I need the kit to function, it is mostly a street car. So why do I want a kit just for track days? Because I like the look as well as the function. Call me a ricer idc. But at the end of the day something that is functional for grip is not ricey.

I understand ever car is different. I'm not saying each application may not require a little of your own fabrication. But of other cars such as evo's, subarus, and so on can have aero kits, so can we. Its just how determined you are to make it work. Again I don't need the MOST functional parts possible. Its not a race car.

No I haven't. But I Will look into this as well. Thank you for input.

This has me thinking.

I come from the land of MR2's and over on one of the forums there is actual wind tunnel tests of wide body/splitters/diffusers basically anything you can think of and how it affects the airflow going over/under and through the car.

-And they have come to find that any body modification done to a stock MR2 regardless of ride height did not have a big enough effect to make a difference until the car got up to about 120-140 MPH depending on what additions were made. Even then, the change was insignificant to justify as an improvment. Some of the mods like a nice "functional" wing and splitter actually created lift instead of down force.

This can be something to keep in mind. If it's not tested and proven functional yet, all this body work could just be added on weight (and of course looks) if you aren't ever going to take it near those speeds.

I just want my tires to tuck. Is that too much to ask?!?
Yes.

But in all seriousness, if the flares aren't done correctly or tested with bodylines/flow, think of your car with imperfect bubbles coming off the sides interrupting flow. On the MR2's, flares actually seem to shatter the airflow going down the sides of the car LOL, which is bad.

And interestingly, a flat rear end is best so that there is no re-curve of airflow, which explains why stock sportier cars tend to have very sharp break-offs from the trunk line to the rear. (Ford GT, Newer Corvette's, Etc.)

Minor differences on the 2G front end components are going to be the key here. Headlights, front fenders, and front bumper as we all know, vary in the 2G's enough to warrant in my opinion, making this kit as an all or nothing affair. The idea of putting additional load on an unsupported platic front bumper, also does not appeal....

So if whatever is developed, it would need to be a is a proper front end, i.e. fenders, hood, front bumper, bracing (welded or drilled/bolted). If they put in the time and show the results (CFD or windtunnel, or road testing) I'd certainly agree signing on.
