After a conversation with ZF SACHS I decided to go with these: http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=142045902317
I could not be happier with them! The hood lifts on it own and lifts the hood a good 3" higher than the stick can. They are perfect for 1Gs. This was installed on my 90 talon. I had to weld the ball stud in so it would clear everything. Would bind if I put it on the hood bracket. The metal is really just too thin to tap where I have it. First welds in a few months so they aren't the best but it works great! I'm really happy with how they look and feel. I'll be cleaning up the welds and painting the area when I get around to painting the car.
Here's the ball studs I used: https://www.amazon.com/10MM-Ball-threads-Spring-Strut/dp/B004711K9I?ie=UTF8&dpID=51EzknmvV7L&dpPl=1&keywords=10mm ball stud m6&pi=SX200_QL40&qid=1464618963&ref=plSrch&ref_=mp_s_a_1_1&ref_=redir_mobile_desktop&sr=8-1
