Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

Evo3 16g!:hellyeah: Evo 8/9 fuel pumps are nice to get.

Is this a direct bolt on or not? I'm new to DSM and learning whatever is presented to me at his point.
I'm familiar with RWD Buick turbo so I won't be complete lost on the subject. Also, how do I ID the turbo now in the car? Thanks! Jr.

What does the turbo look like...Start a thread with pics tommarow..And you will soon have your answer..

I know fuel pump is for fuel. I hve a wlbro 190 So i ws sying becuse im getting more fuel with it i could turn the boost up higher and so i wouldnt have to worry about creep. Would i alredy be passed the boost tht it would creep to?

and also thanks elplatanudo and all others who replied!

figured this is the best place to post, what turbo do guys think i should get at tax time, and why.
mods are in profile..
dsm link and timing belt and water pump will also be redone at this time.

If you are sticking with those 560cc injectors, you can't go bigger than the turbo you've already got.

Hey guys going to be purchasing a new turbo here pretty soon. I need some opinions. mhi 20g or 57trim? trying to decide id like to see 400hp out of the car.... i have a built motor and also will be ordering a front mount at the same time. so let me know what you think and what size injectors should i run with both. thanks

Assuming yout tsi=fwd go for the bigger laggier turbo for less wheel spin.Depending on your power goals the 20g will get you most power for a reliable mhi turbo. Also if you find a 18g there not that bad imo but I would just get the hta68 instead of the 18g.You could save alot and just get a evo3 16g.Your spool would be awsome and you will probably make around the same hp with all those turbos, depending on the rest of your mods more or less.If you got something to tune with like dsmlink I would just get 1000cc injectors and call it a day.

If you want to spend the money you can
Get an h1c and a twin scroll manifold and
You will spool up 350 400 rpm quicker
Then a 20g. But that's kinda baller spending
And might be the path I go

Well i have about a grand to spend so its gonna have to be used...i wanna spend it wisely and get the most bang for my buck. i dont have dsmlink, a logger, or an safc...yet but i do have a flashable ecu...so id probably jusst get it tuned at strictly modified or ams.

If this is your daily driver then I would just get a evo3 16g for like $500 and get the supporting gauges and fuel mods done and a flash tune it.Should put you around the 300whp and be reliable.Anything more then that is going to cost you more then a grand.

i have gauges, and a fuel pump already...just need fmic, a turbo, injectors, and a tune. just finished all the maintenance on it. i had a 16g on my first 2g i liked it i just want some thing that will put down about 400. it is my dd,so id like to find a middle ground between fast and reliability

An e3b16g is perfect for under 400hp. No question. Personally Id say... Definitely go with a pte 6262 from extremepsi.com.... Ask for yourself, its top notch technology, and the most popular, up to 650hp.. I just ordered one, ill let you know how it goes ;-) Just keep the boost low until you can afford the other mods

An evo 3 big 16g will do u 390hp maximum if you have an amazing head.. But for 200$ more you can get the pte6262 which can give you that extra power, and you know your gonna want it eventually.. Trust me, 350hp gets old after a while... Then youll want 450, 550, 650, etc.. Many people I know regret not going bigger. Just my 0.02$

An Evo III 16G is OEM fitment and durability with around 40 lb/min of peak airflow.

A PTE 6262 is a 70 lb/min race-only turbo backed by PTE's questionable reliability.

Two completely different turbos with two completely different fitments aimed at two completely different target audiences. You don't decide to go for a 6262 if you're seeking OEM fitment....none of the original oil lines will work, the turbo has a 4" inlet so you need a special intake pipe, at least 1000cc injectors, etc. Basically, two entirely different mod lists and horsepower goals altogether. Poor advice.

Totally not poor advice. You can just run 15psi or lower for a lower horsepower goal if you dont have the mods (i.e. injectors, "special intake pipe", etc) for the pte6262 to run at 25psi+, and you dont need 1000cc injectors for that, but stockers wouldnt be a good idea, they would be at 100% haha.. Just dont mind the turbo LAG hehe. Its an extremely popular turbocharger nowadays, and I havnt found any complaints about the reliability. Due to its price and availability plus variety of options for exhaust housing, compressor housing, wastegate spring, internal/external, o2 housing flange, etc etc its desirable. There are also other similar pte turbos that are smaller, if your worried its too "big" of a turbo. I dont challenge your knowledge, but I know of plenty of people going with the pte6262 EXACTLY due to the fact that they are seeking an economically priced turbo, that will fit with minimal modifications.. And the oil lines worked on my friends 90' just three weeks ago when we installed her.
Its an extremely good idea if you plan to go bigger (which eventually everybody with a true need for speed will seek), then already having a turbo capable of 650+hp, is just a step ahead of the game. People left and right have been recommending this turbo. Its the same reason people go with the fp green/red, because it bolts to stock manifold. Once again I love this site and dont mean to come off incorrect, I really only want to offer good advice.. But its like I said, the e3b16g gets old after a while, especially when the novice only gets 290-340hp out of her with tuning. I think for the extra 200$~ its a good turbo to have on your car. And get the inline oil filter...

If you want under 400hp, I say the e3b16g is the BEST BANG FOR BUCK DEFINITELY without a doubt. Quick spoolup, nice punch, same with 18g/20g... But I just know of many people who wish they just would have gone bigger, and turned down the boost, until they could afford the other mods and learn more about tuning, etc. I am sorry to rant, I just wanted to explain myself, and wish you all a happy new year.

My neighbor has a brand new evo3b16g from extremepsi for 550$ shipped with stainless lines. PM me.

I have a 96 tsi awd with a 16g evo3 turbo,evo3 manifold, and outlit pipe,3 in apexi exhaust o2 dump back,550 injectors and a apexi neo afc. i was thinking of upgrading my turbo to the big t28 turbo, but it says it will only hold 350 hp,ive never had my car dynod but ive hit 8.79 in the 8th mile.so i figured i gotta be close to that.
thanks for the suggestions

you will have to switch everything if you swap to that turbo it would be a waste. The 16g is amazing I would upgrade to dsmlink and get 1000cc injectors run race gas or E85 and boost up that 16g.Once you have eccmlink and 1000cc injectors you could look into a hx35 with bep housing if you wanna go bigger.
