Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

im saveing up my money, and my goals are to beat my moms 2010 ss camaro,im only a couple tenths off.but it would be nice to hit the 7 sec mark (8th mile)

thanks for the advice, but how difficult is dsm link? I mean compared to an afc how difficult is the tunning, and where are some of the cheaper places to get it, also does it matter which one i would get?

then one of the reasons i was looking at a new turbo im pretty sure my turbo seals are going out, is there anyway to tell without pulling the turbo off completly?

I mean it's a tuning software and like any tuneing device you need to learn how to properly tune with it there are videos that show you the basics and all the way to wot tuning. And yeah you can save a couple of bucks and get v3 lite witch IMO is more then most people will ever need. Yes just remove your intake pipeing and you can reach down. And a little side to side is not going to kill you but in and out shaft plays is bad. If you have in and out shaft play get a new one one. on here you can get a t25 for 50-75 dollars.
(or get yours rebuilt)

dsmlink and 1000cc injectors and I would get a 50 trim bb turbo but dsmlink is definitely the first next thing you should get before upgrading turbo you would be suprised what a good tune can do for you

im going for. it im getting a laptop, and im selling my afc and getting a dsm link,

and why do i need to check my ecu? before i do dsm link to make sure it works properly or just as a routineor

Ok guys, I've searched the forums and couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I am currently in the process of building a engine. Currently I have Manley .040 over pistons, eagle rods, eagle crank, competition clutch flywheel 11.8lbs, and acl race series bearings. I'm going to build my head with manley valve train and 272 cams with a stage 2 or 3 port. All I want to know is what turbo should I get that's going to be fairly quick on the spool? I want something ball bearing. I've heard to get the GT3076R but I'm not certain. Please, any input would be nice. Thanks.

Well, what kind of exhaust manifold are you thinking about using? What I mean really is, do you think you will switch to a T3 type manifold and external wastegate, or stick with the DSM type manifold with DSM style turbine housings and O2 housings?

Actually I guess either way, if you want ball bearing, and considering the level of expense and effort you are putting into your engine, I can't think of anything more worthy than the HTA turbos from Forced Performance. You won't find much about them in DSMtuners, but there is tons of info on them in evolutionm. I'm thinking probably the HTA GT3582R for T3, or the HTA DSM82 on a DSM type manifold (like the FP "race" manifold for DSM).

The T3 HTA GT3582R is a proven good spooler with .63a/r turbine housing - see the Buschur tests of this combo in evom or the threads by Mellon also in evom. These are some of my all-time favorite turbo threads. User cnoevol (Marque) in the Buschur thread had a .63a/r housing on his for these tests, which I verified with him by PM's. Mellon also had the .63a/r. The .82a/r will of course have more top end, but later spool.

Then there is the smaller HTA GT3076R which would spool a little sooner:

And here's a thread on the EFR7670 which is ball bearing:

Thanks for the info. Helped me make my decision about the 3076. I called Forced Performance and spoke to someone about their turbos. I'm going to try out their hta dsm73. It's the same as the gt3073 but with the dsm flange. It's going to be quite some time but when I get this thing finished, I will post something about that turbo for anyone who might be interested in it. Thanks again.

After thinking about it I'm going to upgrade my turbo once again. Currently running FP Big T-28 don't think that will put me where I want to be with my set up and top end power. My goals are 400-450WHP :hellyeah: so I was thinking either FP Red or FP 68HTA. Opinions on which will be better  Car not DD. In the near future I will be building my bottom end. Thanks! :talon:

From my research, a hta68 will probably barely get you there if at all. A red should, but with more of lag. (I have no exp on this just holding you aver till someone whos done it chimes in)

And of course others are gonna chime in with the Gt30/35s, holsets, etc... Im looking for something similar, but I dont wanna rebuild my bottom end. I feel like im gonna be going hta68, hx35, or fp green. Probably hta since its the "weakest" but is said to have excellent spool.

..... I'm going to try out their hta dsm73 .....

That should be a great way to go. The HTA73 is also what is used now in the latest version of the FP Green turbo for the Evo. They show this dyno result on their web page for the FP Green 73HTA for Evo IX - Red is on E85, Blue is on 93 octane:

A HTA68 can do over 400whp but you may be better off with a Green. A Red is quite a bit higher than your goals.
