Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

Hey guy my goal is 500 awhp i have got all my engine parts parts ready to go, but i am stuck on what turbo to go with. I will most likley have 272 cams I was thinking of a hx-35 or hx-40, or i know some one selling a pte 6262. What should i go with and what size injectors for e85?

you auto or manaul, you need to finidh your mods list in profile.. 500 aint hard to get with carefull planning you won't even spend much.

but with a fast spooling turbo like an hx/hy-35 better get a good trans as that early torque will be breaking parts ffast.

My goal has been the same on for many years, the widest range powerband with the most torque posible and the hx/hy is the ticket but i was pm'ing with a guy who's holset was making so much torque he trashed two trannies in a month,

Or if you go with teh 6262 the later torque will be easier on driveline parts (learned that running my 6776) either way, great goal, failry easy to reach, just need supporting parts to handle it and put it to the ground.. I would have been there already buy my last turbo was so beat up it couldn't even put the 49 lb/min it was rated at and i still made 438hp, 396 torwue for a couple years straight as a daily driver.. but my FWD 3-4 hub and slider let loose at only about 330 torque on an easy pull just getting up to speed in traffic leaving the thai food reseraunt with my carry out LOL

BUt the HX-35 (8 blade more so from hat i've been reading and forming my opinion on) will do the jon, or to do it easier at less boost and not getting as particular on the setup go hx40 or the 6262

Well the build isnt in my car yet but hears what it will be
manley rods cp pistons
acl main and rod bearing
arp l19 head studs
arp main studs
Brian Crower Valve Spring & Retainer Kit
cometic 3 layer
bc 272 or
comp cams 101200

i have a manual im just torn between what i should run for turbo :(

I see no fuel modifications or a way to tune the ECU listed. I do see a wideband and a data logger but those are pretty much useless unless you have plans for engine management as well.

Ah yea probably going to tune with ecm link. Have a logger and a wideband already.

i know i know there are posts about this all over. i have looked but still cant decide:hmm: im doing a turbo upgrade soon..but not without chosing which turbo to go with. have a 99 auto gst. want something with big boost. but not sure:confused: any help would be great!

Power goal? Let's start there, then slowly give you advice since you literally have nothing for current modifications listed other than an intake and cat back exhaust. Otherwise, you could always follow the build tutorials that are on this website, or look at other member's modification descriptions.

Budget?

well its my dd. want something that will spool prety fast and give me that umph. 16g evo 3?

i was leaning towards evo 3 before...i have and evo 3 manifold and o2 housing. full exhaust no cat, fuel pump,

Well il be the next to say we need your goal..
But i will tell you that the 16g turbos power/torque while they are great little turbo's and the power comes in and stays, your going to have some issues in a gst..
These turbos power come in so hard and they build full boost in such a short rpm range that its hard tp keep my gsx straight sometimes and i can blow 1st gear off on dry cement all day(not launching hard either)..
So in a gs-t they are going to come in to hard and your not going to go anywhere you'll just sit there blowing the tires off.. So regardless id personally say get a 20g.. It will be laggy but it will have enough room that the tires wont come of the car when trying to boost it and it will leave you plenty of room for more power later..

So the 16g will rip my $#!+ apart basically LOL good to know thanks

not really LOL. i have a 16g in my FWD car and at 16 psi(while i will admit you can break the tires free fairly easy haha) you can control the wheel spin by playing with the clutch. if you learn how to drive, even a little, you can easily drive a FWD 16g powered car.

My gst is a automatic. I don't need a clutch. I want a 16g. Will probably run low boost then LOL

Then get a tuning device that allows you to set boost by gear.. I just think the 16g's come in too hard for a gs-t i know with a 14b and a MBC boost set to 13 on my old gs-t it was still a bi*** to keep traction and have fun with it.. AND I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE... So while thats a very big issue it doesn't matter whos driving when you make X amount of HP your going to have traction issues without suspension work and shit..

ok so i finaly got all my problems fixed with my head. found out it was warped so I decided to go with a ported and polished 1g head cosmetic headgasket and some arp headstuds. Now the problem is my turbo went to crap. it was the T25 and now im wondering stay with this or go 14b. Im wondering about the spool times of the 14b. Then the thing is i dont want to creep like crazy with the 3 inch downpipe and 4 inch catback. (last owner custom made.) I have reasearched about this turbo conversion. I'm just still confused about some things.

Thanks for the reply! i just got done reading those and am wondering with the rewire walbro 190 will i still have to worry about boost creep? Could i have the psi just set high enough that i could just bare with it?
