Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

450...50 trim should do it...You need to go in depth with your money spending though. You need to have all of your supporting mods before buying that turbo, spend your money more wisely.

ok im stuck between two choise keep in mind this id gonna be a daily so looking to make 300 hp i got k&n intake, ngk plugs and wires, boost gauge , fuel pump rewire, full downpipe bacl 3.5inch exhaust and on the way to y house are mpc walbro 255 660cc and afpr and safc on the way, now it s time for turbo upgrade i want a easy swap what should i go with and whats involved in the turbo swap (ie lines, piping, any thing that will be diffrent then on the t25)

Get an evo3 16g, it will plenty for your goal and then some should you ever decide to squeeze a little more out of it.

Small 16G. Same airflow potential as a Big 16G with the spool of a 14B; definitely capable of 300 horses with proper supporting mods and a good tune.

full downpipe bacl 3.5inch exhaust
Your exhaust system is about an inch too big for 300hp. There are guys making 500-600hp running smaller exhausts than you....about the only thing you're going to gain is a healthy dose of boost creep.

I dont care what anyone says. Larger exhaust will just allow that little turbo to release air easier and in the same time release more heat from the motor. Yes its overkill but it wont hurt the car. I remember when we all thought 3" exhaust was overkill. Now there doing that oval shaped exhaust that is larger than 3" and fits under the car easier.

Ohh and the 2g apexi exhaust goes from 80mm to 85mm near the end of the catback. That makes the piping about 3.35"s.

yeah its apexi 3.5 inch down pipe back it was the same price as the 2.5 inch so i figured why not right? ok the 16g sounds good for my needs now is the ebay one any good? they have them for 259 with j pipe and 2 g install kit? with said turbo and my mods whats safe psi if i get it tuned properly? wich reminds me ant one in the buffalo rochester ny area that is good at apexi safc 2 tuning i will pay you to give me a hand with the tuning till i get a hold of it sense the only place with awd dyno charges 300 per hour ( is that a lot? )

Cheap good stock 1g manual car 14b. Swap on a 7cm^2 turbine housing from a blown 16g. Or pick up just the housing used. Best bang for your buck turbo upgrade for you 2g guys. It's a 34lb/min compressor with a turbine that can do 400whp with minimal lag difference between a stock 6cm^2 14b. 34lb/min can easily put you over 300whp :thumb:

Port the flapper hole and put a bigger flapper one on. You'll may need to do something like shim the stock actuator (put washers under the actuator flange), as you might blow open the flapper at somewhere around your goal. Some do, some dont.

Wrong. Larger exhaust will not create enough backpressure for the stock wastegate system to function properly. When the flapper opens, there won't be enough restriction in the turbine housing to divert airflow past the housing and through the wastegate. You'll have no control of the turbo's boost level, making tuning damn near impossible. Eventually you'll overspin the turbo, melting the inducer tips right off the turbine wheel:

...but it won't hurt the car. :D

I remember when we all thought 3" exhaust was overkill.

It still is for 95% of the DSMs on the road running the stock turbo at the stock boost level.

That's obvious.

Why did you even start this thread if you don't care what any of us think? I'm surprised you didn't just pick up a GT42R or a S400 to go along with your "bigger is better" theory.

Turbo'd cars dont need back pressure thats the who point in getting a bigger free flowing exhaust. Hell on my 01 Cummins I am running 5" TB and its not harming that little HX35 turbo. I guess flame me if I'm wrong but that was always my understanding

To have no backpressure is a misconception that has been applied to all cars when 99% of the cars out need it. Diesels need it to, the reason for a big diameter exhaust is because diesel expands but it doesn't mean that it need a straight thru exhaust. All your doing is losing power in the lowend.

Justin, please reread who the OP was :p
Haha good eye!

Sorry, Jason...now I feel like an idiot. :coy: I guess we all are allowed one screw-up per week....says so in the rules, doesn't it?

Evo 3 16g, only deal with MHI turbos. Or spend the extra 200 for t-28. But with the 16g you have bigger potential. Make sure the all the maintainence has been performed before you start uprgrading.

If you just bought that 2g from Williamsville then i know that car needed work.

PM'd.
