ok i am going to get a new clutch for my car. i was wandering which one i should go with. i was thinking of the act 2100. Dont think i want the 2600 because it is a daily driven car and will only go to the track a couple times a year. if there are some other brands you all would suggest let me know. i want a good streetable clutch for a cheap budget.

edit: my order didnt go through so i went with my original idea and got the exedy stage 2 with a 3 puck disk. Its not my DD so im not worried about having a smooth ride.

Awesome to get all the replies thanks everyone. :dsm:

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of a rebuild and my stock clutch isn't looking too good so I figured since it's out I'll go ahead and replace it. I would like to get a clutch to support a higher torque capacity even though it's my DD, but in a year or two after I find another car I will be doing a few more mods to this car to give it a little more power. Right now I'm looking at the Fidanza 2.1 or a used ACT 2600. I know the 2600 would probably be a lot of overkill, even when I get the car to where I want it (probably 300HP/300FT-LB torque). The 2600 I'm looking at has a few thousand miles on it and is only asking $200, a new 2.1 would run me nearly $300 shipped. I'm trying to get as cheap as possible, but I don't know a whole lot about clutches and am unsure if that much pressure to a DD would be reliable if I ran the 2600. I drive about 80 miles on a regular working day right now if that matters, and the 2600 has a street disk with it. What would you do? Go with a used ACT 2600 or bite the bullet and spend another $100 on a Fidanza 2.1?

I second a 2100 unless you plan on dumping the clutch a lot. You'll thank yourself later when you have to sit in traffic for over 20 minutes.

If you want a solid clutch that will last a long time, handle up too over 400lb/tq I would go with the ACT 2600 w/ 4 puck unsprung disc. The 4 puck can handle a lot of abuse and it wont fail at the springs since its unsprung like a lot of the street discs do.

Its actually really driveable, at first it has lots of chadder but once broken in its fine. I have mine with a fidanza flywheel and fully balanced. It shifts smooth and grabs hard.

There should have been a poll with this one!I want to know the same thing and have heard alot of good about the 2100 but I dont think Im going to argue with JayRolla on this..

I suggest a 2100 with a street disc. The 2100 with a 6 puck sprung hub disc is rated for more torque than a 2600 with a street disc.

I am using a act 2600 with disc - good street clutch and can handle a little more abuse than 2100.

i got the Excedy stage 2 cerametallic and their flywheel as well.
It's awesome, very very streetable. It's aggressive, but i set in traffic 20min each way to work, and i am fine. it's not hard at all to drive, maybe if you are a 80lb grandma. i drive it fine, so does my girlfriend. this clutch takes off though. so i take it easy in traffice, but man this thing almost wants to launch everytime, i love the feeling though. stock is junk compared to this. so if excedy is in one of your options, i would definetly go with it. i went with it, because i heard its better than ACT, even from some dsm shops, which I will not mention. Next time I may try ACT, i hear people favour that clutch a lot.
Anyways good luck, mine is 4 puck as well, and its tottaly fine. There was a bit of chatter at first, but after broken in, i dont hear anything!! its very nice and grabby!

well I bought my car about 3 or 4 months ago and just recently the clutch started slipping. so I was thinking of buying either the 2100 clutch from ACT (which I hear you guys really like) or this one Fidanza 2.1 clutch kit : JNZ Tuning has anyone else used this one before? which do you guys recommend?

the other thing I need to buy is the gasket that goes between the exhaust manifold and the turbo along with the bolts and washers. in the few months that Ive had this car the gasket has been replaced before because of leaks and on top of that the turbo has come loose before (it just got loose yesterday again and now my car sounds like a go kart) Im thinking the bolts and washers may just be to old or something what do you guys think? is it the gasket that doesn't seal properly or is it the bolts that are to blame?

thanks for any and all help

The bolts for your turbo, i would torqe them down. Then torqe them again after a heat cycle of you runnig your car. Also put new lock washers on the bolts. As for your clutch its up to you.

There are some questions you'd need to tell us before being able to advise you in the best manner.

Things such as budget, power output of car, FWD or AWD, and what you use it for (just a daily driver/aggressive driving on a routine basis/track useage?)

In order for anyone to give you any realistic advice they'd need some of the background information listed above.

As for the turbo gasket, it's most likely the washers (and possibly the bolts as well) causing this issue.

The fix is to pick up 4 new bolts (getting rid of the stud/nut setup), 8 of the conical lock washers, and a new gasket (we've always had good luck with the stock, 7cm gaskets lasting when you don't have a loosening issue).

Hope this helps.

thanks for the help guys Im not mechanically inclined or anything so its good to see Im on the right path. Im 21 and this is my first car, my dads a mechanic but Im trying to do everything myself so I can learn more about cars.

my eclipse is stock and has no mods other than a fart can also its a daily driver.

edit: also wanted to know if its safe driving the car like this

when replacing your clutch i'd recommend an OEM throwout bearing, and possibly looking at replacing the pivot ball/shift fork. have your flywheel checked to make sure the step is still within specifications as well.

on another note. its safe to drive, probably just sounds really obnoxious from the exhaust leak, and the more your clutch slips, the more wear you'll have on your flywheel..
