Woodbury,
I am looking at replacing my BOV. I was looking at the Greddy XS, but I seem to be seeing people with Greddy problems aplenty. What BOV do you like? Why?

Also, what is a safe PSI for a stock turbo? I hear rumors that anything beyond 14 will raise hell on the engine.

Thanks for your help!

I'm new to turbocharged DSMs but I'm super hungry for knowledge! What is the advantage of having my BOV recirc'd? :D

theres no real advantage i dont think (tell me if im wrong), but if you have a stock maf and no mapping system and you dont recircualate it your car will often die or come close to it when you push the clutch in at high RPMs and let them fall all the way down

If you do not recirculate you will be calculating airflow that will be exiting the system. The only way to safely recirculate is if you run speed density or you have your Mass Airflow Sensor AFTER the blow off valve (using a GM MAF). This makes you way too rich and your engine dies when you let off the clutch. It is a bad thing to do unless you have engine management.

Do a search of the forums. You will find many reasons why you should NOT recirculate.

Did I forget to mention that the recirculated air will help spool your turbo faster during shifts? Just something to think about...

Thanks for the info. If what you say is true about spooling quicker than I'm a believer. My car runs extremely rich... the plugs seem to be fine, no boost leak and it falls on it's face at 7lbs of boost... any ideas?

Im running a non-Recirculating BOV atm , and im getting rid of it

Found one at extrempsi :

EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts - Forge Motorsport Blow off Valve - Recirculated : Mitsubishi Eclipse 95-99

but also found one at ebay

ECLIPSE GST TURBO BLOW OFF VALVE TYPE S RS SSQV BOV RED: eBay Motors (item 130435854437 end time Oct-02-10 17:16:47 PDT)

Im thinking , a BOV is a pretty simple construction no? Why pay 100$ more ( + 120$ shipping to Norway from extremepsi when ebay shipping is like 20$ )

Also, the ebay version sais the recirculating valve is 1" , is this the size im looking for or should the valve be bigger?

thnx

Don't buy an ebay bov. I've seen the diaphragm fail on a couple ebay greddy knock-offs before. You can get a better bypass valve then the ebay one for the same price by buying a 1g valve. If you can find one and want to pay a little more you could also get an Evo 9 cbv since it's similar to a 1g valve (actually holds more boost without crushing it) and bolts rights to the factory uicp (on a 2g).

I would not go eBay. They might not seal right and leak. Spring might be weak to go a 1G crushed or tial or hks or something like that but not Chinese ebay.

After dealing with an HKS knock off (bought myself) and a type s knock off (came on the 1g I just bought)... they both sucked. The HKS lasted a month or two before it started leaking and the greddy knockoff was leaking when I got it and sounded terrible to boot.

The real HKS, my 1g, all of the TiALs I've had, and my new ngr have worked great!

avoid the ebay knockoffs is my advice!

I'd rather use OEM than aftermarket cheap junk! Usually you get what you pay for...factory parts are alot better than they often get credit for. Especially when it comes to Mitsu parts.

I ran a ebay knockoff ssqv for about a year before it started leaking but I'm with everyone else on this one. Just pay the little extra and get a 1g or a name brand.
