Try 8lbs in the tires and keep going up on the rpm at launch to see of it helps.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk

I was going to lower the air pressure more but I was not able to get any more runs. My laptop died before i got there so couldnt log or change the launch rpm.

Would heating up the tires a little longer help me out i was looking at the videos and seeing that im bearly smoking them. I was going to try a 2nd gear burn out but was a little scared. I burned my clutch last time i tried it. Would it help me if I do a second gear burnout and hold it aliittle longer?

Thanks.

If you can't do a second gear burnout, hold your first gear burnout longer. 2nd gear gets the tires spinning faster, so they heat up better, but you can do decent in 1st gear. just try to keep the rpm up high to keep them spinning as fast as possible, just don't bounce it of the rev limiter.

as for the launch, I would stay around 10-11psi for now. try heating them up more and raise your launch rpm up around 5k and see if you can still hook good. if so, keep increasing the launch rpm until you get to the point you are breaking the tires loose too much on the launch. a little spin won't hurt, but you'll know when you've passed 'the point' that gets you your best launch. another thing, try to keep your burnouts consistent. if you don't, you'll end up with different amounts of heat, resulting in different grip levels. That said, you may have one burnout last 2 seconds less than the previous and have less grip. with increased rpm over your prior launch, you may smoke the tires off the line, however if your burnout had been consistent, that might be the magical point for your launching style, but you just threw it out the window due to inconsistent tire grip.

I have ran full slicks and dirt tires which may compare closely to the hoosier qtp's and both liked about 8psi and would pull 1.70-1.72 60's. 10-12 was way too much to get a good sixty, which my worse was a 1.8 even at 10-12psi-, also my technique for doing a burnout was 2nd gear roll through the water, pull the E-brake,rev limiter or enough revs to spin tires till you see smoke then hold another 1-2 seconds then let off the E-brake to see if the tires try to grab. If they don't suck you to the seat when you roll out then do it again.

I've never even really done a 2nd gear burnout. Just 2nd gear, rev it to the moon and dump it huh? Might have to try it.

I will give this technique a try for my burnout. I'm hoping for at least a 1.9 60ft a 1.8 would be awesome though.

Same here last time I tried it I burned the clutch, the cluch was on its way out though.

I'm going to try lowering the air pressure some more, down to 8 psi. Raising the launch limit. I was spining the tires in first gear launching like I was wouldn't raising the launch limit make me spin more? They would grab really hard in second gear though.

2nd gear burnouts works but 3rd gear are better.

Bring your slicks down to 6psi . launch it at 6k and slip the clutch ... Thats your 1.5 60ft fwd recipe ...

:)

How much power was this on? Suspension mods? Was it on the stock tranny?

11.1 setup was around 450-480ish stock suspension with auto zone clamps like these below

Do those clamps just go on the springs to reduce the squat effect? Are they better than putting some spacers they sell between the springs?

you should do 1.7 60ft when you get it down pat. yes make sure you roll through the water or you will slip the clutch. sometimes when your spinning you can still get a better 60ft because its pulling harder.

No wonder my 60fts sucked so bad...I only took my drag radials down to 17 psi every time I went to the track.

only bias ply radials and slicks can be lowered that low, if you have drag radials like the mt drag radials, hoosier drag radials or bfg radials that are steel belted you can break the belts in them. 17-22 is pretty normal for those.

Damn. Yea I have the MT streets :(

The idea is to stop the weight transfer from going to the back. And instead keeping the weight were you needed it most.... the front wheels.

aka the "Squat Effect" ;)

What is the fasted 60' you guy have gotten with either drag radials or slicks. I'm trapping 113 now and still in the low 14's so I'm trying to decide on 24.5x8x15 or 13 slicks or 225/50/16's Hoosier DRs. What is the fastest 60' you have gotten?

I would skip on drag radials and go with slicks or the hoosier qtp's. I just got these and still getting use to them(only ran on them twice). But effortlesly cut a 2.0 60' so I'm sure it will come down a lot more. The other thing I noticed the few times I ran with these was that there was almost no wheel hop like on street tires.
With a burned clutch I managed a 13.6 @108 that was with a 2.4 60'. My clutch was slipping ridiculously.
These are on 26x9.5x15 hoosier qtp's.

I cut some 1.77s on those hoosier 225/50/16s and have a set that are about 80% tread life left if you want them $125 per+ship

I also have cut 2 1.59s on 26'' mt/et but mostly high 1.6s still working on my holeshot.

I also just got my bws372 billet turbo with 8'' cover today and about to order some mo fuel and that is Moran Racing 255lb/h injectors or 2500cc as they told me:hellyeah: 9s before the year is over!!

1.7-1.8's on DR's and 1.5-1.6's on Slicks. That is exactly the type of comparison i was looking for, thanks! A buddy of mine that owns a local performance shop had an 11 second FWD laser and told me pretty much the same thing. 1.8's on DR's and 1.5's on slicks. Thats over half a second difference in the 1/4 mile. Looks like I'm going to go with the slicks. Thanks again!

Dont waste your money on drag radials. They don't work that well for FWD making decent power and are more prone to wheel hop. Get some slicks and rip it.

I agree with richard 100%. My DR's are fine on the street but hop like crazy at the track. Get some slicks for the track and be done with it.

They work if you know how to launch them and have solid steel motor mounts. But I do agree buy some slicks, there pretty much the same price per tire.....
And to above I have been looking for a mirage shell to build or even a colt but id prefer a mirage. Maybe next year, but im never walking away from the 4g63 platform.

Thanks for all the replies; Slicks it is. So far I've found:
24.5 x 8 x 15 Micky Thompson ET Drag Slicks for $195
24.5 x 8.5 x 15 M&H Racemaster Drag Slicks for $170

Leaning towards the cheaper one obviously.

I'm having trouble finding 15x8 rims though. Everything I'm finding in our bolt pattern (114.3 or 4.5) that are affordable are for Jeeps. Any links to cheap 15x8s that will work for our cars? I'm thinking a 40mm offset would work.

5x4.5 bolt pattern. Ive got weld 15x10s with 4.5 backspacing. If you want dirt cheap wheels just buy the summit or jeggs brand of welds look-a-likes they run about $100 a wheel. You want about a 0 offset. The welds weight about 14lbs and the summits weight 17lbs for the 15x10. I deal with alot of hondas here and those 24.5x8.5 only last about 20 passes with anything over 550whp, the sidewalls stress too much and just give out. Get the 26'' tall tires trust me you will have longer life and better 60's and you wont spin the crap out of them. Spinning your tires at 70+mph might sound cool but its not.
