Where are the FWDs at????

best et is 10.78 and best mph is 142.51.. both of those were with 1.9 and 2.0 60 foots, we have a lot of work to do with the convertor because we can not leave in boost yet. However we are working on it.

Very impressive! I was going to ask if you had seen this thread yet: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/401430-finally-good-1g-converter.html, but I see you already have. I was also going to ask what is next for you but I also read that in the thread, Magnus IM and a large TB. Anything else?

Yes, 13" wheels will fit. I have 15" wheels personally. I think the backspacing on mine is 4.5" (not sure the mm, just google it and look for the backspacing on an 8" wide wheel. Same size tire...24.5x15.8. Overhang was about an inch. I liked it.

Good thing about the 13" setup is going to be the weight. The wheel is lighter and I believe the tires are lighter too. Can't go wrong there...if you can find a good set of 13" rims for cheap. That's why I just went with the 15s.

The smallest ive ever had was 14'' and they where really close to the calipers. I have ran 14's on a 1g and 2g. But I prefer the 15'' you can still get 3000gt brakes to fit.

The 4 piston VR4 300ogt ones? Will they fit with 15's?

I've read in several threads on here that the 1g fwd brakes will fit under a 13" rim but I find it hard to believe myself.

why do you want a 13" rim anyway? That's pretty small. Just go with a 15" rim and either a 24.5" slick or a 26" slick.

Just taking the advice of a fellow FWD DSM drag racer:

Drag radials are WAY, WAY harder on parts than slicks. Up to the 600whp range, go with 26" tires. You will break axles periodically at this point. Stock stuff won't live with 28's at all. Up to 400whp or so, 24.5's do well. Read up on people's experiences on honda-tech, there is a ton of info on FWD cars with slicks, power levels, 60' times, etc.

If you run too big of a slick for your power level, you'll have to hit it so hard off the line for it to work that you won't have enough power to keep it spinning and you will get into tire shake. Tire shake will damage more parts than you can imagine.

I'm running 28x10.5's on a 10" rim, best 60' of 1.388 so far. There has been a learning curve with these to keep from shaking them. That learning curve was much easier with smaller tires.

Run the smallest diameter wheel you can, sidewall is your friend for both traction and wind-up in the tire to reduce driveline shock. Don't run too narrow of a rim or that will kill traction off the line too. Standard is tire width +/- 1".

Kevin

That quote is taken from this thread, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/218920-fwd-racers-what-size-slicks-you-using.html, and there are a few guys on that thread saying that they were running 13" slicks. I'm not set on 13's, but it would give me the most sidewall. I am set on the 24.5" tire and will either end up with 13's or 15's for the rims.

Im not sure about the 4 piston calipers but I have a set of 2 pistion and rotors that I got recently and they fit my Weldstar wheels just fine.

You should go with a 15in rim and a 24.5in slick. That will be plenty of sidewall. I had that setup and it worked fine for about 460whp.

That's what I'm leaning towards. Any affordable, lightweight 15" rims you would recommend?

It looks like you would need 17" rims to clear the 4 piston brakes so they aren't slick friendly. Looks like I'll be sticking with the FWD brakes for now so I just ordered some Hawk HPS pads.

I went to discount tire and picked up 2 of the drag 15" 5 spoke rims. I think I went too big on the mickey thomson DR's though (26"). I dont recal the weight of the rim though.

Just buy some JEGS brand drag wheels. All aluminum, so they are lightweight and plenty strong enough. When I bought my 15x8 JEGS rims, they were $85 on sale each and like $15 to ship them. I think my total rim and tire weight is right at 31-32lb with the 24.5x8x15 M/T ET Drag slick.

Finally got my fwd done and took it to the track. This was my first time ever at the track. Passes started at 14.2 108 mph, and by the end of the day i got my best pass of 12.69 at 112 mph with a 2.0 60'.

Car is a stock bottom end, arp / mls, 272 cam, 56mm hx40, 25psi, hoosier drag radials, shep stg 1, kaaz lsd, elhs, gutted caged etc.

Last pass broke the ps axle. Got that fixed, will be hooking up the meth, working on the tune and putting in my boost solenoid to do gear based boost and up the boost to the mid 30's. I would like to get the car into the mid 11's by the end of summer which i think is reasonable.

you have a mid 10sec setup easily, do you have any logs? no offense but i would want to burn my car down if it only trapped 112 with an hx40, i have just started to lean on my car at 22-23 psi on an E316g and it feels like its in the upper 118-120mph range and plan to run low 11's when fully tuned and maxed turbo. DO NOT turn the boost up any more till you sort your tune out on the boost you are already on. Just my .02

I would have to agree. Seems like you got a few kinks to work out unless there are some parts of your setup that aren't very optimal for flow (cheap intercooler with pressure drop, poor flowing intake manifold, etc). With the mph, all you need is a 1.7-1.8 60' and you should be able to run high 11s. How is your shifting? Still seems you should be lower 12s with that 60' and mph unless the shifting is a little slow.

I'm going to guess hes lean and has massive knock retard, i don't see the stock intake and even if its an ebay intercooler what type ? I had an 3" core 2.5" inlets bar and plate intercooler from cx racing that seemed to cool great !

could you post up you dsmlink logs. Thanks...... you are going to have a missle when you get your car lined out !

For where the car is at right now im pretty happy with the times. The tune is very rough. afrs are in the high 10's low 11's so i still need to fine tune that and as of right now its running a stock evo timing table as i havent had a chance to tune that yet.

Car is tuned via ecuflash on an evo 8 ecu so no link logs and i dont have my evoscan logs right now as the laptop is at the shop.

As i also stated this was my first time ever running at the track so i have a lot of room to improve on driving alone. Shifts were a little slow and the car still runs rich uptop as i still need to finish my fuel map.

I appreciate all the comments and the hope that my car still has a good bit left in it before being maxed out. Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a great plan in mind. I would definitely work on the fuel map (depending on fuel you are running) and get some timing thrown in there. When I had my Evo 9 a couple years back, it picked up 95whp just from timing and dialing in the A/F ratio...went from 525whp at 35psi to 620whp at 36psi on a built motor and 6262 on E85. Depending on your fuel and the amount of timing you can add along with the leaning out you can do, it should turn out to make a good bit more power and run a lot quicker!

Well got good news!! Started installing my trans I got with the Quaife Lsd this week. Ordered a new Spec stage 3plus clutch kit and Spec aluminum flywheel should be here monday. Can't wait to get to the track with the new ad ons. Also asked my boss if he would sponsor me a set of slicks, so waiting on his answer. But the best part is I found out this week I'm going to be a daddy, it's our first one so pretty stoked!! Working on getting my et down this year it's definitely getting there aurai!

Congrats on the addition to the family! They are a blast! Mine just hit 7 months old. Love every minute of it.

Sounds like the car is coming along nicely. Hope you get the hookup on those slicks!

All the FWD's are in FL!

We have all the flavors in the Tampa area.
2g-2.4/20g - 4g64 DOHC
2g-2.0/16g - 4g63 DOHC - Spyder
2g-2.4/14b - 4g64 SOHC - Spyder
2g-2.0/NT - 420a - stock...
2g-2.4/NT - 420a thing with a huge turbo

I bet that 2.4 with a 14b has nice torque, but probably runs out of power around...oh 4k rpm! LOL

Hes only at 8psi, so I think it would last the whole powerband.

How fast were guys or hp were you making when you where blowing both tires from a 3rd gear pull ! i have my car running pretty good right now on about 27-28 psi, i can't even get a good log in 3rd gear anymore on street tires. LOL

Went to the local 1/8th of a mile track yesterday trying out the clutch i just put in last weekend and it did really good. I ran my best so far an 8.3 @89mph with a 2.0 60 ft. I was on 24lbs of boost. I'm running hoosier QTP's and still not able to get under 2.0 60ft. does anyone have anytips to get under that? I was launching at 4750. We tried tire pressure at 13 and 10psi. Both got me a 2.0.
Im going to be going back to the track this coming thursday hopefully with some tips to get a little faster. Let me know if you guys have any tips.
Thanks

Try 8lbs in the tires and keep going up on the rpm at launch to see of it helps.
