Where are the FWDs at????

Yes, called Sparco and said I was in a wreck with two of their seats and the plastic harness holes cracked. They sent me two new sets free ROFL. I have never owned a sparco seat in my life, but to my defense I did offer to pay for them, they declined.

I then took it to a upholstery shop and let them have at the stockers. I loved the stock seats but wanted harnesses. You can see what that netted!!

Was wondering what kind of times you were seeing before the slicks?

Well on the s16g I have only ran it that one weekend with the slicks. The year prior I had an evo3 on there and on street tires my best 60ft was a 2.4 and my best et I beleive was a 14.6 @111. Shortly after that I got some nitto drag radials and I exploded my diff all over the track. I was amazed how well the slicks hooked up.

I was nervous for my first run on them cause I did not know how they would react, When I let the clutch go It was like I was in my old awd talon again. My first pass was a 2.0 60ft but felt like a 1.5, I was so used to the 2.5-2.4 60s it was crazy.

Just checked in at the end, brought my FWD out after a 2 year hiatus. Ran the World Cup Finals at Budds Creek. Felt fast as hell the first pass, 12.0@126. Seemed like the car was flyin! Then it was like old times in the seat again. End of the night ran the best pass of a [email protected].
Ah, good times, gooood times =)

Saw your car run, looks good.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I actually went out looking for a FWD car due to the fact that all the DSMers (for the most part) around me have AWD. I don't go to the track that often but I do drive on the street and highway alot... as far as I'm concerned the best track is an empty road. Anything AWD will always get the jump but, take me from 10mph ;).

This has been proven when I raced my friend's Tsi AWD with a 2.4L stroker with a 20g and I have SBR's stage 1 on 16psi with a 14b, and held with him all the way through 3rd.

But to answer the question, it's because people that want track cars don't want to bother with the problems of FWD. I however feel like people that have track cars don't get the same performance on the street or in a daily driveable set up, so to me it's like having a show car you never drive.

LOL, not every AWD car is the same. If myself I ever had another chance would love to build an fwd car again. This time I would actually finish everything that I started. AWD on the street just makes better sence, I just built my car as a street car now.

1.6L, 14b, hotpipe intake setup(no intercooler), 21psi, E85, 5880ft above sea level, 2605 lb race weight with driver, 23" M&H Racemasters,

60- 2.121
330- 6.095
1/8 ET- 9.395
1/8 MPH- 75.75
1000- 12.218
1/4 ET- 14.660
1/4 MPH- 92.31

Car made six passes and ran great. As it sits, it has a 14.5 and maybe a 14.4 in it.

<~~~ FWD, I have already had my share of AWD dsm's and I was moving to florida soon so i decided to pick up a fwd due to high speed driving and lots of highways, and to this day I still want to drop my 6bolt into a 91 awd, but for now I like what I have. But its cool to see some people's faces when you floor it at 40-50mph in 3rd and hearing the tires starting to spin then when they grab you are gone.. But anyways the fwd talon has been very very good to me over the past 2-3 years.

That is something i would like to know also, anyone out there that welded thiers up, and how did it perform?, if anyone is going to do this, please make a write-up so others can follow.

i was told that the diff was the weakest link in the tranny and that welding it would make it stronger than a quaife it might be a bit jumpy in tight cornering in a parking lot but worth it for the traction

I think you would regret welding your diff if you drive it on the street. I have a welded diff tranny in my garage I am hesitant to install in a track only car. It's BRUTAL to turn, especially with slicks on the car.

I bought this car beat down and not running, originally NT,with the purpose of taking it to the track. The turbo conversion is complete and I built it with a few mods like a 3" exhaust and downpipe,AFPR,Walbro 255 rewired,Dejon UICP with RS knockoff.Emissions components are removed as well as the AC.

Now that it's running and legal and the clutch is still holding I'm thinking about taking it to Gainesville Raceway next wednesday to get a base time.

I've only raced on that track once and with Pontiac G6 at the AC Delco Challenge thing they had at the Gatornationals last month.I'm not verry sure what to expect from the car but as long as I hit the shifts right I'm thinking it can put down a low 14 to start.

I planned to let a bit of air out of the front tires and remove as much weight as I can and log each pass...any other suggestions for a track noob?

TealTalon, you have an impressive car,I saw 14b in the timeslip database AND FWD and thought "damn, theres hope",haha. You're not that far away either so if I head down to have the car tuned I may holler at ya.

FWD guy right here checking in!!! My mods are listed adn pictured in many threads here on tuners and in my profile.

I am just now getting ready to make my first passes in about 4-5 years and am shooting for 11's (anywhere in teh 11's) I've been chasing them for years and the things i've added since my 12.08 @ 117 <MPH(on 19psi) run are

TRE trans with Quaiffe LSD
264/272 cams
BSE elimination
water injection
E85 conversion
changed from 720 up nto 1000cc injectors
New IC piping (more direct and less restrictive setup)
J&S safeguard (allows me to run the most timing possible while making most powerful timing curve that the fuel will allow by pulling timing on a individual cylinder basis and letting all the other make as much power as they can while only pulling timing from the knocking cylinders.) It Really makes a difference you can feel (compared to pulling timing from all cylinders) when it pulls timing only from my knock happy # 3 cylinder but keeping timing in all the others letting them continue to pull as hard as they can

I don't have a cage, so my goal is to break as deep into the 11's as possible pn my first run this year before getting kicked off the track for a lack of safetly equipment :D

I need a stronger clutch bad. My car is fine during normal driving but I can't seem to launch at all. I have to roll off the line then punch it so it won't slip. My 60ft times suck. I know my car could run 13's easy with a stronger clutch. Since I fixed most of my boost leaks (I still need shaft seals), I may go back to the track Friday. Hopefully, I can get off the line quicker. I don't like that 15.0 so, I want to get a better time. After Friday, I'll stay away from the track until I get a new clutch, injectors, an afpr, and fuel management.
