FWDer here as well!! I snapped a rod back in January, but I am almost completely finished rebuilding it. My profile is updated with my current/new mod list. The car is being built for the Texas Mile and Land speed racing, with the occasional trip to the strip. I just can't wait to buy my new turbo.................FP88HTA :sneaky:

Hopefully most will be here by this weekend to get started putting things together. LOL next on my ordering list will be a new tranny as soon as I blow this one up, Im sure!!!!:rocks:

I went to the track today and ran a 14.4 in the 1/4 mile. That's way better than the 15.0 I got 2 weeks ago. I still have a huge boost leak at the shaft seals but, I ordered shafts seals the other day. I'm not returning to the track until I fix all the boost leaks, get a new clutch, cv axle, injectors, afpr, a some kind of tuning device. I wasn't satisfied with that 15.0 and I knew I could get a better time despite my need for the above parts.

Figured I'd check in with the FWD guys also.

I just ran a 10.995 @ 134.44 in my '89 Mirage Turbo

That was my first ever pass on the 23x7.5x15 M&H slicks but I had to take them off because I don't have a cage yet. She is a consistent 11.9 - 12.0 on the street tires at 24 psi. Car weighs 2130 lbs w/driver and this was at Bandimere Raceway 5,880 ft elevation.

what are the stock specs for a 1g fwd turbo? im hoping to get mine on the track by the end of may for a run, but lack of funds prevents me from restoring my gst

Motor trend tested a 1990 GS turbo and it ran the quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds at 90.3 mph.
So, basically they run high 15's stock.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten a 10-second pass out of my full weight FWD yet, but here's some updates.

Car made 720whp on the 35r (video/info/pics are in the hangout somewhere) a few weeks ago.

The following day, I ran two 11.5 @ 130mph+ passes on FWD tranny and 24.5" slicks. Both passes had issues with gearing/shifting/etc. It was my first time launching on the twin disk, and first time shifting hard with it.

The 24.5" slicks are too short for my power level right now (even though they hook up perfectly), so I'm revving 3rd gear out to 130mph @ 9k, but the FWD gearing is too long in 4th gear to give any additional acceleration.

Car also made an even 600whp on pump gas and 24psi of boost (lowest boost setting) so I needed to find some street tires.

In came a set of 235-60-15 set of M&H DOT Radials which hooked everything I could throw at the car on pump gas. They were also almost 26" tall, so they worked alot better as far as gearing.

I drove the car to Buschurs Sport Compact shootout, 130 miles away, and made a bunch of passes with the car on the 720whp tune, and the M&H Radials.

Car went 11.6 @ 140mph best pass, completely nuking the tires in first and second, and revving 3rd out. Any car that traps 140mph with only one gear to put the power down is impressive. :)

Every other pass was around 11.7 @ 137/138mph with differences coming with launching techniques and/or tire pressure.

60' were all 1.9's, although I'm sure a 1.7 or 1.8 could have been had if I wasn't running just a single stage of boost.

Unfortunately on the last pass of the day, I threw a rod out of the block. Initial assumptions (I haven't wanted to touch the car since) have been the old Ross Pistons (motor was 4-5 years old) had weak wristpins which ended up cracking and then sent the Crower Rod out of the block.

So there you have it, 11.6 @ 140, 97mph through the 8th.

If I had a set of 26" slicks (judging on the hook of the 24.5" slicks and the gearing of the 26" tall tires), I have no doubts the car would have went 10.7 or so at low 140's.

This is still with the FWD trans in the car, AWD trans swap would get me a few tenths, but at the expense of ZERO traction on the street due to the much shorter ratios.

I'm contemplating parting the car out. 10 years of DSM's have been enough, but I did reach my goal of a nearly full weight 140mph street car that I felt safe driving anywhere.

Well im going to the track tomorrow.Im gonna be running some Falken RT615.My car is gutted so lets see what happens.Has stock shortblock,Small 16g,Built head....

Lets get this thread alive! :talon: :dsm:

Ran the car last weekend ran a 12.1@116 I know I have a 11 second pass in it. Car is running a e316g and e85. Also 24.5 slicks with a 1.80ft.

Wow, hope my Hoosier DR's work that well, congrats :thumb:

I've done a few mods to help out my top end power this year so even though my FP1X cams aren't designed for top end power, the other mods really helped out & now I actually hit my rev limiter (7500) from time to time in 3rd & the cars still pulling, whereas last year it felt like my power was dropping off right after 6500rpms.

The weather has been horrible around here, every time there's a T&T I plan to go to, it rains! I'm hoping again for July 5th, so hopefully get some updates. There was a formula posted of the DSMLink forums giving you an approx trap speed based on your 70-90 times. Previously mine extimated around 113.5mph & I trapped just under the 113mph, which seems like a pretty good estimate, considering I'm running less boost in 2nd & breaking lose. With the new power this year (still running the same 25psi) my 70-90 times are estimating out to be in the 117-119mph range, which would be great to see. Was going to do 1 or 2 pulls with the useless street 18's & then switch to the Hoosier DR's to have a direct comparison. So hopefully will have some real info in the next few weeks (if it ever stops raining here  )

Finally picked up an LSD. Still shooting for 12's on the 14B with stock injectors.

I bought out my partner and the Laser is mine now. Cleaned up a couple things. Removed what was left of the factory harness, and wired in the Megasquirt ECU. Car fired right up. Installed a LC-1 wide band as well. This will be the first time I've been able to log anything on the car. Up until now it's been by ear and seat of the pants tuning. I have a welded diff tranny laying in the garage to be put in, that may help a bit on the 60's. I'm hoping to knock a few tenths off the 14b times with proper timing control, fuel control, and logging.

Now I just need a trailer for the car...:laser:

Well, going to give an update, got to the track this past weekend for a few runs. Car ran better then my previous best but didn't do as well as I hoped (but should still have lots left in it). It was an extremely hot day (easily 90+) & my inlet temps were over the 100 mark most of the time, which I'm sure didn't help me. Car wasn't running the best, it was super rich (<10:1), so a bunch of the runs it was breaking up. It was very bad the first run, so I pulled abit of fuel in the top end but the GF came with me for her first time & I didn't take the time to play with the tune, so I really should have taken more fuel out, across the whole rpm range. I was using this more of a test time to get use to the DR's, so wasn't worried about really pushing the car.

I can say the Hoosier DR's are a night & day difference compared to the street tires. Normally I run reduced boost in 2nd ~19-20 psi, if the track has a good prep, it will hold but alot of the time it will still break lose & hop at this level. With the DR's, zero spin on the first run, so added abit more boost for the next run & once again zero spin. Over 3 runs I added all the boost in, for 2nd & still no slip. Probably ran around the 25psi mark in second & it held, with no problems. Defently have never felt pull like that before.

In first it was tonns better as well. Normally I ease it off the line & then maybe get about 50% throttle through the gear, to try & prevent wheel spin, which most of the time doesn't happen. With the DR's I did a quick little burn out in 1st, just for a couple seconds & launched the same way, with very easy off the line & then get into the throttle. Each run I could get into the throttle more & get on it sooner without the tires breaking lose. Near the end of the day I thought I'd try warming the tires up abit more, so still did the burn in 1st but held it for about 5 seconds (still just enough to get them to barely smoke). Wow, the tires gripped even more, I launched like normal but there must have been zero wheel spin as the car bogged out & almost died. This was with the launch control set at 4000rpms (not building boost, just had the pedal down enough to bounce off the limiter), so the next run I bumped it up to 4250 & it worked better. I wasn't building boost off the line & was nice & easy on the launch, to not break anything but first gear felt so much better. Before my average was probably in the mid 2.5's with the street tires & with the DR's it was down to mid/low 2.3's.

I only ran the tires at 17.5psi as I didn't bring an air compressor but they seemed to work great at this level. Next time I'll play with the tire pressure & work on the 60 abit. First run was a 13.7 @ 111.X & then each run consistantly dropped abit. Ended up with a [email protected] but still with a 2.32 60 ft. So not bad considering everything else. Hopefully next time with things running better & some actualy tunning work the car will see some 12's.

Thats cool your hooking alot better. I think you need to up your stutterbox a bit. I launch mine at 5650 and it builds 10psi off the line. Before when I was launching at 4k I could only cut a 2.1 60ft and I got it down to a 1.860 ft.

Yes, that was exactly my thought. I was doing some quick browing around & saw some techniques on launching a fwd (I think I'm just so use to taking it so easy off the line & breaking lose all over the place, I need to retrain myself). After I looked at my logs, I either need to slip my clutch abit more or raise the launch control (probably a combo of both). When I was leaving at 4000, I was bogging out to ~1500rpms, even though there was a good amount of throttle. When I bumped it up to 4250, I was bogging to ~2000. It seems I want to keep this ~3000 mark, so I will probably try 4500 & concentrate more on not bogging. Seems most with non street tires have the launch set to the 4500-5000 range, so I'll start there. Currently not building boost on the line, just holding the pedal enough to hit the launch control, so I may hold the gas down more to build some boost, depending on how things go.

Hello everyone, dont post here much but just thought I would check in. FWD DSMER! Mods in profile are as current as I can remember, but there still might be something Im leaving off.

My best run to date is a 14.4 with something like a 2.7 60'. This was on MT 26 inch tall drag radials and the boost at about 17 psi with not so good compression. I was launching as about 5 grand and still could not drop my 60'. But just wanted to say hello to everyone and maybe post around here more often.

If you have any questions please ask, or any advice, please give it to me!

P.S. . daren_p very nice car, yours is one of the ones I have liked since day one.

Well I went back to the track last night and I cant get my 60ft below 1.8. What are some things to try to get that down. I think I will try antilag a little see if I can get off the line better. I am so close to an 11 sec pass. I think with a 1.7 60 I could get it. Ran another 12.1@116 last night.

DSMu4ia, not sure if you'll see this post or not. I may PM if not.

With the M&H 235's (I have the same tires), did you cross the traps in 3rd gear? I'm assuming you had the rev limiter set at 9k for those passes as well?

I'm hating the FWD gear ratios and am considering getting an AWD trans ready to swap in. I'm revving 3rd out to 8k currently and crossing the traps at 122mph. I will be increasing it to 9k before I go back to the track, and thinking that would be good for close to 140mph traps, as long as I have the power, of course.

The main question, did you cross the traps in 3rd with the M&H tires?

Hey guys, I was supposed to go to the track this past Friday, but it got rained out. I bought DSMu4ia's whole slick setup and I am eager to try it out at the track! :D Can't wait.

Might as well update here, since I did everywhere else :D Finally have another fwd in the 12's :thumb: Only made 4 passes, best to date was a 13.2 @ 114.6, with a 2.3 60ft (my last time out, first time on the DR's). First run I bogged big time & ran a 13.27 @ 115.97, 2.5 60. Next run launched at the same 4500 but gave it some throttle (about 60%) on the launch. Netted a 12.86 @ 115.8 with a 2.17 60. Bumped it up to 4750 next run & went with about 85% throttle off the launch (hurt the clutch, my fault) & spun the tires slightly at the top of first (again my fault, almost non exsistant burnout). Thought was going to be a poor slip but still ran a 12.81 @ 115.44, 2.069 60. Let the car cool off to do one final pass, same launch, same throttle but hooked perfectly, ran a 12.54 @ 116.92 with a 2.030 60 ft. All these runs were done with about 25-26psi, so less boost then last time but because I'm now getting half decently out of the hole, the car ET'd & trapped better. Might get out once more this season, think I can probably shave abit more off with some practice, maybe launch abit higher & run abit more boost. The Hoosier DR's are amazing, the last run was done with 18.5 psi in them, burn out was just enough to see small clouds of smoke & they stuck like glue.
