Where are the FWDs at????

FWD guy here reporting. :hellyeah: Love my fwd and wouldn't trade it for an awd for certain reasons. My plans are to make mid 300's and stiffen up the suspension for reduced wheel hop (mounts) and corner-carving performance (megan racing 32-ways). Just trying to build a streetable fun little car.

You will definately get it. That is exactly what I built mine for and I love it...

My car will probably not see the track anymore unless I have slicks or some sort of lsd. Before all my bolts on I ran 14.1 @ 101. With all my mods and alot more wheelspin it still goes 14.1-14.2 at 101. gutted or full weight it hasn't changed. Its just a tire shredder and with 202k on the bottom end, trans and frame I'm done with the set up. Let alone my trans SUCKS!!! Im in the process of going to an AWD platform. Its just so much easier to go faster. Although my car is an animal on the highway with a 14b at 20psi. Ever do a 2nd gear pull at 50? Try it some time and tell me how aweome and violent it feels. Its amazing how I never broke anything doing that.

Haha... I've gotten down my 3rd gear/60 roll routine...

3rd gear always kinda felt a little flat to me until I tried doing a 2nd gear pull. with the motor at 5k or 5.5k the spool up of the turbo is unmeasurable and there is a huge "Oh S#*^" factor when it torque steers into the other lane. Have you ever tried it?

I have no traction at any rpm in 2nd gear. 3rd gear seems to be my sweet spot. I just barley have traction in 3rd gear. It tourqe steers like crazy in 3rd gear.

I've read this entire threda over the last 2 days and just wanted to add two litle tips that really helped me. (besides the 1300 dollar LSD)

Before i had the LSD i had read up op on shimmin the sway bar, but after looking at the way ours are mounted i thought i'd try something different. So i took off the end connectors, added threaded turnbuckles to them and by adjusting them i was able to even out the weight on the front tires to almost a perfect balace.

Then after getting the LSDi was still spinning tires all over when i go the power back up, that's when i decided to say "what the hell" and on the street i jacked the rear end up with my coil overs and left the front end low (when doing this i also used scales to even the weight 50/50 on the 2 front tires.

With that setup and street tires (nothing special for tires either) I was forced to launch at over 5k RPM on a warm day with STREET TIRES! JSut to keep from bogging, then if i didn't hit 2nd just right or if i short shifted it i was bogging again and forced to fan the clutch.

To proce this wasn't just in my head once the season started dyeing down i leveld the car out front to back and in the rear side to side as well. This unbalanced teh front tire weights and made it easier for the weight to transfer to the rear and let the front spin. Now i'm back to barely being able to launch at 3500 RPM without spinning the tires to death. Weight transfer and proper loading ofd the traction tires as far as weight is concerned can do a LOT for you.. Just seomthing i only saw made fun of and not defended in a post on page 3 i think....(talking about the black car in some one's avatar)

But i tell you what... goofy looking or not, I"m re-raising the rear and using the coil overs to perfectly even the weight on the front 2 tires and i'm breaking 11's on slicks and kicking ass on the other FWD'ers out there that have their cars just slammed for looks and not setup for launching

Yess. I tried launching at 4.5k last season and bogged the hell out of the car. Then tried 5.5k and that worked well. And you are definately right, the gearing isn't too great on FWD. Second gear makes or breaks your run. If I blow my trans some how this season I'm going to do an AWD trans (staying FWD) for the better gearing and strength. Do you have any pics of your sway bar mod? I'm very interested in this...

i'm trying to picture how you modified the sway bar, was this just done to the rear sway bar. do you have any pic's !

I'll get some pics up.. All I did was weld some turn buckle style threaded ends to the little "middle rod" and then used them to pre-load one side or the other. Kinda simple acutally.. Next time i pull a wheel i'll get pics.. (raining tomorrow :( )

Sounds good. I've always wondered about adjustable endlinks, no one makes them for us as far as I know. Evo guys have em along with everyone else.

Glenn, how did raising the rear affect cornering and overall handling?

Hey guys i need some help with figureing out backspacing for the fron't wheels. i have a set of hoosier 26.5x8.0/15 tires that i want to use but i can't figure out how much backspacing i will need with a 15" wheel i have come to the conclusion that 4.0-4.5 is what i will need but i wanted your guys opinion from people who have run a tire that big...... "PLEASE HELP !

Yeah thanks for all the help guys  . went with a 4" backspacing on a 15x8 wheel and it fit great ! i guess i'll be the only one posting new times for my fwd....... hoping for some 11's on this 14b next weekend 11.99 is my goal ! then i'll throw the green on and see were that takes me

I allways have issues. Now im waiting on my ECU to get back from Jeff O's. Then everything should be good.

My GST ran a new best last night. 12.4@117 :evilgrin1 .. Faster/ Quicker than my stock Z06 ( that stings a little)

YouTube - GST runs 12.4@117 mph Zmax Street Drags 4/08/09

It picks up 24.34mph after the 1/8th! Boost was set to 26 or at least that where it was on the way home.

Tire 225/45/17 Sonar Ultra Sport ($65 tire) @ 25psi good burnout. I think I can put this turbo in the 11's with real tire.
