Finished up the exhaust (Megan catback with a modified CX Racing 3" downpipe with a 200-cell catalytic converter added). Also cleaned up and repainted the driveshaft while I had it out and detailed and repainted the tunnel while I was in there.

Looks good!

Rebuilding the crappy shifter I got from a junkyard.....gonna be a lotta work. I ordered a new spare one just in case I don't machine things right! :p

At least the car runs!

Installed new to me 680cc fuel injectors, new injector pigtails, installed new intercooler j-pipe, replaced coolant lines, finished filling the radiator. Basically double checking all the connections disconnected during the engine swap. Tomorrow I'll gravity bleed the clutch, and see if she turns over. Once the new tires are on and she's on level ground Ill double check the oil level. Once she starts and warms up to operating temperature I'll top off the coolant as needed.

Put a 8 year old, BNIB hidden relic on the Talon. I had to FIND IT first, LOL.
If I keep it on, I'll wrap the headlight covers with CF wrap.

It's been awhile. I hit some mental hurdles and at one point considered selling EVERYTHING I've gathered for not only the Talon, but for the 3000GT as well.

I took a break from car activity and spent some time on some house projects, but today I decided to mess around with the Talon.

I pushed it outside and pulled the drive shaft so it wasn't in my way any more.

Then I started removal of the remaining 1GA body parts (less the wing)

After I got all that off I decided to look into the 1GB rear conversion.

I took some measurements cut some spot welds, got the air saw out to finish the cuts and did a test fit

Knowing I have some welding to do to complete the rear I decided to move to the front. I threw the bumper and fenders on for a quick mock.up.

After that I spot weld cut the two pieces out of the way to clear the headlights and did another mockup before cleaning up and calling it a night.

Any progress is good progress! Kudos!

I'v been trying to figure out the ABS light on issue. Realized the 99 models have their ABS ECU module with the pump tucked in the front bumper, drivers side. It's a Bosch 5.4 unit. I confirmed it is not in the passenger side floor as all other previous models had it. ABS wheel sensors are also Bosch. Still hunting the issue and looking through everyone's posts but nothing specific to the Bosch units. I'll be taking it to a brake shop to check codes since the 'ground pin 1 and 4' method does not work. Maybe the ABS ECU module is bad. I did confirm it is getting 12v through the harness. Found an online shop that specializes in Bosch ABS units so if that's bad, I'll have it shipped there. Otherwise it could be a wheel sensor, wheel bearing, etc.....basically I'm running out of all the to do's and check this and that. Fun stuff! 😁

7 months of searching for an engine, 3 weeks of prep work, new part list, engine removal/install and she's running. She's got a slight miss, which I attribute to an exhaust leak from the manifold, and although the idle is smooth, the engine rpms "surge". I think that could be from the exhaust leak as well but, it could be any number of things. Other than that, there's a slight oil leak coming from the turbo, looks to be the main oil line. Probably just needs new crush washers, but she's alive! No check engine lights so that's a good thing. I'm going to get these leaks fixed and maybe a short drive is in order.

Drove the car to breakin the bearings and rings. Did a BLT and found a HUGE boost leak right at 22lbs, which is all I could get out of the compressor, so I NEW I had a leak somewhere. I usually run 34 lbs not on scramble. It still runs good and I will take the TB off before I drive again and see what's leaking. It's the mating gasket for sure. Anyone else run a JMF Drag intake with a 1g Throttle Body? Chime in if so, please!
That's what's up today, just motor breakin.
OH, BTW I dug out an old VIS CF hood that I've had for about 8 years and it fits real nice. IDK if I like it yet but it is an expensive piece and was lucky to find it so long ago. I wanted to Panda the White 90 GSX, but she is so stock, I will leave her alone.
Edit: after driving it, it doesn't really obstruct anything so I need to clear coat it and run it.
I ordered a small amount of CF wrap to do the headlight covers too.
More to come!

I got the alternator and coil/wires on today. I really roughed up my surgery site whilst tightening the head bolts, so progress is slowed down a bit. hoping to put on the clutch assembly and transmission so I can drop it in the car soon!

No pics today. I did some tinkering though. I fitted the fenders back up to see how the headlights and markers fit with the pieces I removed last night, along with how the hood lined up with them.

I then got caught up in trying to figure out why the hood wasn't shutting right. I finally got it lined up, but it didn't want to latch fully.

After I got tired of messing with it and decided to put it off I moved on to the next thing.

I removed all the 2 sided tape from the door molding. I started modifying the bracketry for the rear bumper so I can mount it more solid.

I figured out I'm going to have to fabricate up the brackets for the rear bumper to quarter panel attachments.

That will be for another day.

I fixed the idle surge, and it turned out to be a faulty tps. Switched it out with a new one, idles smooth as silk. Fixed the oil leak from the return line.
Tomorrow, I'll hopefully install/wire the new headlights, put the hood back on, and align it so it closes properly. I also will put on a new power steering and ac belt.
Other than that, I need to return the faulty Walbro 255lph fuel pump that caused my no start. Highly pissed doesn't begin to describe my reaction. Months and weeks waiting for this moment only to have it not start due to lack of quality control.
I'll also replace a cracked connector on the tps. The project continues...

Fresh dipstick and different oil pressure spring to lower post balance shaft pressure and to keep the stick from popping out. Didn’t get a chance to take it on a cruise but at least it wasn’t pegging the gauge on startup as usual. Also put in some fresh Accel wires since my Rockauto close out ones separated on their own.

The only thing that turns on your reverse lights is the reverse switch, mounted on the right hand side of the top of the transmission to turn them on. Do you have the spacer washer on that sensor? It is important. Just a thought.
Jack's installed the switch with two washers instead of one. I thought the switch was bad so I removed it, probed it with an OHM meter and pressed the ball plunger. The switch worked the way it was supposed to. That's when I discovered two washers. I removed one of them and now it works like it should.

Started the car today after two years of sitting in my friend's shop. It practically fired up without a hitch - just a couple of putput chugs...
I spent the last two years deleting wiring, rebuilding the wire harness on both sides of the firewall, door seals, clutch pedal, new Fuelab AFPR and filter, lines:
-new injector connectors
-rebuilt starter solenoid pigtail
-new CAS harness
-rebuild MAF harness for the speed density adaptor plug
-new air intake temp sensor
-new ECU plug
-multiple reterminations
-new MPI plug and fuel pump wiring repair (the connector was charred)
-new MPI relay
-new ACT flywheel, ACT2100, 6-puck, Jack's Trans

I'm probably leaving something out, but I have probably 10 pages of hand notes with things that are a concern, corrected/resolved, or in work. I had to prove to my friend that I could repair and get the car moving under it's own power. Still more to go.
