Wes what are you removing? I need ideas

I'm honestly running out of ideas. I'll be removing the rear seat and interior, along with the wiper fluid reservoir. I also swapped wheels with my Spyder. The rims only weigh 16lb compared to my fat 28lb Enkei's, so that's nearly 50lbs right there. I'm thinking of swapping my electric drivers seat with the manual seat from the Spyder.

But otherwise I could use ideas too.

Below 3k? Jeez awd are seriously heavy. You can drill the spot welds and remove the spare tire holder. Remove all passenger interior. install tubular rear subframe LOL

She weighs 3330 with the spare tire, jack, toolbox, and a 1/2 tank of gas. I figure if I take all that out and only run 1/4 tank that'll save at least 100lb right there. Add that to the weight from the rims and were down to about 3200.

I might cut out the spare tire holder as well. I'd be down to gut the interior for a day, but my wife will be going with me and it's 80 miles to the track. So a passenger seat and stereo are a must. LOL

BTW, you need a paint job. LOL

How about losing some of your muscle mass :p

It's all natural! ROFL I plan on going to the track on the 24th, so I doubt I could shed any considerable amount of weight by then.

Nah.... that is what you remove the spare tire carrier for. Throw down some egg crate and tell her to suck it up. :D

LOL Then I'd probably end up sleeping in it.

Just tell her:

"Damn it. We're talking tenths of a second here woman! Get yer priorities straight and deal with it, or stay in the kitchen where you belong and I'll let you know how I ran when I get back. And you better have some damn dinner cooked 'cause I'm gonna be tired and hungry!"

Try that and let us know how it works out for you. :D

(Just kidding ladies)

:)

I didn't remove the covers, but the vents are still open. The cover's are really just one way valves.

Yea, but correct me if I'm wrong here. Doesn't that cover allow air into the car, since the flap swings inward. I'm thinking if those weren't there then the air would be sucked in the roof vent and out the side vents. Thus allowing a better flow of air through the car, and not just coming into the car and becoming stagnant air that just sits.

Sorry I tried moving this into your build thread, as that would be a better place for this. However my phone will not do it.

I will check it out today although I always figured they would only let air out for when using the vent and A/C. I had intended to completely remove them anyway but forgot.

I was just thinking IF that is the case that may help draw some more air along the sides of the car. I could check my vents when I get home, since they are in a box in my basement right now.

I understand the forgetting part, my memory lasts about 2 seconds on a good day. Lol.

If it wasn't for the rear camber, tow hook, and raw carbon fenders, that Civic would actually be pretty clean. Just sayin.

Today I repainted my hood after removing the ribbing and adding an Evo-ish hood vent. Tomorrow I'll continue trying to get my car another 300lbs lighter. Trying to get vehicle weight below 3k before I hit the track.

The camber I had to do to make them fit, need to buy new tires, these are EVO specs: 235/45, I had sti wheels on it before and the tires were 215/45 and no camber was nessasary.

The tow hook is functional, Mounted to the crash beam, used it to tow the car, and the rear I've towed my dsm twice, and a scion tc with it.

The fender I had metal ones but one got damaged, the car is a "House of Kolor candy paint" and is very difficult to match, they painted the whole car twice already after someone backed into it, Didn't want to paint the whole car again so I went carbon fiber. Here it was before:

I just checked these out and sure enough they only allow air to exit the car. I'm sure removing them would allow more air to flow out, but then when I wash the car water would be going directly into it. I think I'll leave them on for now.

Yea, that's probably your safest bet. Between that and if you did remove them it MIGHT draw a crap load of dust into the car while you drive, and that could be bad in a bunch of different ways.

Completed my hood vent. It honestly looks pretty bad in person, mostly because the heat keeps softening the new paint and melting the rubber trim. You can see it sagging in the top right corner, right where the manifold heat hits it. :coy:

But coolant temps were in the 190* range all day, all my new fittings clear the hood with room to spare, and you'd be surprised how much lighter the hood is without all the ribbing and crap. Not to mention I did it with extra supplies I had laying around. So I guess function>form still applies.

This should go under dumbest thing youve heard a dsmer do. But i finished a BLT and forgot to un loop my pcv lines. Smoke everywhere, only drove for 2 minutes but it was enough to shoot oilfrom the dip stick everywhere. I think the turbo seals are okay since the smoke is mostly gone but some definately passed through the turbine seal because there was smoke IN the exhaust, grabbing some non flamable break clean for the manifold and down pipe.

Edit: ran her for a while out and about boosting with no smoke. Sure killed the o2 sensor though. Lesson learned.

When i remve the looped vc lines it made a large pressure relief sound, i thin some oi may have been pushed by the turbine seal. Any other stuff i should be worried about? Main seals? There is no oil leaking as of now, no smoke out the pipe anymore

Finished chasing boost leaks for the third day in a row. Finished up with a spark plug change, new injector o rings and lower insulators, biss o ring, throttle body gaskets and bov line. All were leaking. I also ran a compression test 175 165 160 165. Not bad. Now I just need a 1g oil return line, as I cannot get the 2g one to stop leaking and get lined up on the 14b.

I was also looking through my computer and found a pic that I took the day I got the car. It has come a little way. I had the intake tube off for checking shaft play.

^ That looks a hell of a lot better! You guys with Minden Silver DSM's don't know how mucky you are.

If it works run it Wes!

Function > Form

Yeah, I've just decided I don't care anymore. LOL My car is always one of the cleanest DSM's at the track so it's not like peer pressure is a factor.

Started a diet. I gained 25 pound since i turned 21 due to alcohol calories :p Nice weight reduction for the dsm.

Nice looking hood WES. I cant come up with the balls to purchase a vented hood due to the term "ricer" But yours isnt bad looking compared to those CF hoods out here.
