What could cause this wear. Pic inside

Hey guys my car been running bad for a couple of days anways took it to the shop and we narrowed it down the a coil pack. Anyways got back today and was going to make a video of the miss fire. Started it up and it sounded real bad on the timing belt side. So I pulled the timing cover to find this.

As you can see there is a groove about a millimeter thick and about a centimeter wide. The timing belt was done about two weeks ago when I had to replace the oil pump seal. So what could cause this?

it doesnt matter what caused it... time to open up the timing cover and find out

Wrong oil pan bolt in the wrong location. Its sticking out to far and causing that wear.

The groove is from an oil pan bolt rubbing it. There are a few oil pan bolts that are shorter than the others, and are supposed to be used for the front cover area.

Could be. This was not there yesterday I went to make sure everything was good under there when hunting for the miss fire.

same thing happened to me once and just like the others said, its one of the oil pan bolts. Your misfire is probably due to all that oil you have on your valve cover. You more than likely have some down your spark plug wells. Please give your car a good tuneup.

The oil is fresh. Car has brand new plugs and the wires are fine. It was running great till a few days ago.

Go and get an OEM belt too while you are at it.

Car is heading to the shop that fixed it free of charge. They get to play fix it.

Thats the best thing you can do and check that oil pan bolt while your at it

MMMM, yep its a bolt thats too long, get you a belt and call it done.

That's a Contitech AG belt ..... Contitech is the OEM supplier for Mercedes Benz, Volvo, BMW Audi, Mitsubishi and a few others..


But true - get that thing back to the shop that did this work and get this matter fixed pronto for that groove is creating a horrible weak spot in the belt now...

Yep car is getting towed to the shop next week. Getting a new oem belt and fixing the bolt. Then time to sell the car for something more reliable. This has not been the only problems out of it.
