Tips for building bumper, side exit exhaust?

You may want to consider a short route IC piping thru the radiator support. That will free up that space and you can a small size glasspack. i'd say you go with 14'' magnaflow glasspack

I think this is your best plan. Otherwise I don't think you're going to have enough room without frying something under the hood.

My intercooler has side inlets/outlets. I'll make it work. Just not sure if I'll be able to use the nice shiney tip or not. We'll see.

Okay, the tip I liked was too long. The tip that was short had a diameter that was too thin. Found a tip last night on ebay that I ordered that's 9 inches long and 4.5 inches in diameter. Inlet it 2.5 inches. That should do good cause I don't need huge piping and the bends will be easier to work with. Should get the tip sometime next week and then it should all be going together. Only thing is, is that the sound won't be muffled any. So it's basically gonna be straight pipe. Oh well.

Looks like you could easily chop off that 2.5" pipe and weld on a 3" pipe if needed.
I'm curious to see how much quieter a little muffler can make the exhaust with it being such a short system.

Guess I need to take a before and after video of my car so everyone knows what it sounds like. But I'm kicking myself in the butt right now. I'm just now noticing that the freakin exhaust tip that I ordered was an oval. How in the heck did I freakin MISS that?!?!?!? I want round. NOT oval. Uggghhh!!!! Back to the drawing board. Grrr!!!!!!!

Ah, I need to update my profile. Right now I have a sleeper/bastard 20g, 780cc injectors (cause the 1450ms were a pain in the butt), fmic with 3" inlets/outlets, 3" i/c pipes, ported gm maf, tial bov, 255 walbro, Ecmlink V3, Quarter Master clutch, solid front and rear motor mounts (wanna get something less solid in the rear), BPR7's, and soon....this exhaust system. Other mods are things like lowering springs, wideband, etc., etc.

I'll try and take a video this weekend. Right now my throttle body seals are leaking BADLY!!! Biss screw was leaking badly as well but that's fixed. Getting another used maf tomorrow and if it doesn't leak as well, my car should run much differently/better.

This is on hold until I can find the exhaust tip I'm wanting. And having a very hard time finding one like I want. Wanting at least a 4.5" outlet with a 15 degree slant, and either a 2.5" inlet or 3" inlet. Tip can't be very long. 8 or 9 inches maybe at the most. Uggghhh...wish someone could build me a custom tip. Sure someone out there has to do this crap.

I forgot to take the video of the "before" though so I'll try and remember to do it tomorrow.

## not a race car, just run it like a normal human being. if you want it loud, just straight pipe it LOL.

Alrighty, took this at work this morning in the parking lot. Exhaust is cut off and ends at the bottom of the oil pan....for now.

Excited to see the finished product! I don't know a whole lot to the exhaust system, but how does this mod affect the back-pressure to the engine? I a fabrication done like this to an R34 Skyline, but out of the driver-side side-skirt and have been interested in how this affects performance. Good luck!

I'll see if someone can get a video of it for me and I can post it up for you guys. Before and after of that as well.

Back Pressure does not create power, if anything it restricts. his hacked up down pipe as it is right now will give him way more power then majority of exhausts systems. Back pressure is just some stupid big fat BS made up by some honda kids or something trying to be smart. You want a efficiant exhaust system? Straight and as less restrictive as possible, no muffler, no cat, no resonators. nothin. That's what makes power in a exhaust system. how well the exhaust gas's can move out. Your engine can only suck in as much air as it can push out.

Diameter is also a big factor. Have it too small, it becomes restrictive, Have it too big the air quickly looses ..."speed" as it travels through the exhaust system (more so on a long exhaust then a short one)

Proper Diameter is dependent on displacement mostly. now I'm not saying because you have a 6.9L engine you need a 12" diameter exhaust. but in our case. and majority of engines. its 2.5-3 inches.

You mean "Our"

I've decided to just go with the smaller tip I have and I'll make a metal plate to go around it. I'll be doing it at school and hopefully get it done this week or possibly next if they don't put me to work on some piece of crap car there since I know more than anyone else there. It's an automotive class but I'm only there to get my GI Bill check and work on my own car. Grrr....try anyway. They don't like me doing modifications and that's all I ever do there. Haha! The welding shop at school does my welding for free too. So that's nice. Anyway, I'll get it all done as soon as I possibly can.

If you went with an FMIC that had both the inlet and outlet on the passenger side it would free up a lot of room. I would also make a custom O2 housing to go with the rest of the exhaust. I'm liking the weight savings this would offer. If you could fit that muffler in there it might just be quiet enough for street use.

Also check out this plate a fellow member is making for people http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/custom-fabrication/393058-cf-exhaust-plate-side-exit-exhaust.html. Its carbon fiber and for the bumper exit exhausts. Why didn't you mock this up first and then cut and paint your bumper?

So my car is down. Either a clutch or transmission issue. Pulling the motor starting on Monday to figure out the issue but will be way easier to start fabricating the exhaust. Sorry though, I won't be able to get a "before" video. I'll snap some pics this week of the progress on the exhaust though. I can't say at this time how long my car will be down but at least it's paid for.

What is happening that makes you think that something is messed up in your clutch/transmission?

Well, I was driving home night before last and all of a sudden it felt like I was driving in neutral. Doesn't work in any gear. It WAS working in 1st but not everytime. Now nothing. Towed it to school yesterday and tearing into it come Monday.
