The Battle of "Eris"

100% stock, un-wrenched 1g. Been sitting on it for over 20 years waiting for my chance to build. Diamond in the rough at this point?

Looks good man im really happy for you that color just pops especailly when clear hits it. Patience is key and time and money with anything you do
Pretty happy with the quality paint, honestly the base looked almost as good without the clear.

The real expensive base was the Deltron, but I liked my sample of the shop line better. Not sure if I got a bunk sample or what. But at 4x more money for the Deltron, I’m happy with what I got.

Heat was tolerable and back was sort of behaving, so got some work in wheeling/sanding any rust on the interior. Not a lot to deal with but all cancer must go. And started cleaning the cavity near the rockers. That’s fun to try and get in there without losing an arm.

No real progress on the car lately for a few reasons. But I did want to give the people at DSS a shoutout and thank you. It’s been bugging me a little bit, even though it doesn’t matter, that there wasn’t a sticker on the driveshaft that I bought new from ExtremePsi, so I emailed them and told them and they sent me a bunch of stickers. I thought that was pretty cool of them. Should make the car go faster too right!? :p

Hey there just wanted to say I love the build :thumb: And that’s easily one of my favorite colors on a dsm LOL, hope to see a video of running one day:rocks:
Thank you, I have no clue what I’m doing but trying to learn. Yah me too! She’s been waiting for almost 25 years now. Where the hell did all that time go!? Would make more progress if my back would allow it! :f-u:
I almost changed the color too…
Btw I have gleaned much inspiration from you and your build.

So I was super stoked to find an EPROM ECU on sale and scooped it up. Unfortunately I didn’t do thorough research and when I got it I dug out my old one (I haven’t put eyes on in 11 years) and realized they were a little different.

From googling it appears this one was from an A/T and mine is a M/T. Bummed now. My question is even when looking at the link on ECMTuning’s website it doesn’t reference this part number anywhere on the ECI id page it linked me to.

Anyone here know exactly what car this came off of?

Save it for a future auto swap?!?

That looks to me (without researching numbers) a 100% like an EPROM TCU (trans computer) for the 91-early 92 DSMs. They had three plugs instead of the later model TCUs that use two plugs. I'm ALMOST certain that board is a TCU board.

Edit: I did a quick search and I'm right. It's a TCU. The 92 at the end denotes for AWD (different shift points). If it was a 93 at the end, it'd be a FWD.

Ok so now I feel really stupid, I didn’t realize TCU meant auto, I just though it was the same as ECU just people calling it something different like other parts having multiple names depending on who’s speaking about them. I know nothing about the autos on these cars, only ever had manuals. I was so excited to find a nice EPROM too! LOL. Oh well live and learn.

Ok so are these an entirely separate unit on autos located somewhere different? Or are they located in the same spot behind the stereo?

They're right behind the ECU, closer to the firewall. They sit horizontally on a special bracket back there and it's a BEAR trying to remove them for the first time if it's never been touched before.

And yeah, they're completely separate from the ECU. The ECU and TCU don't talk to each other or even care what the other do. If it's a good known working TCU, it still has some value. Just not as much as an EPROM ECU.

Thanks for the info

More prep on the rear. Something I’ve been putting off and dreading was the rear quarter trim removal for proper paint as I don’t want to mask anything. Was able to get them off without breaking anything or bending up trims. Really happy about this. Clips look to be in pretty damn good condition too.
