I've got most of the vacuum lines mapped out, so met me make a jpeg file off of paint or some program and I'll be glad to give it out...

Send me what your lines look like and I'll send mine. How would you like me to send it?

I'm having some problems seeing how to keep the turbo at 8 psi. A mbc just delays the signal to the wastegate actuator until the boost you want is reached, but if i try to set boost below stock levels is there going to be enough pressure to open the wastegate? I thought the wastegate wouldn't open until it gets 11.1 psi??? And what exactly does the BCS do?

Hey, i was sondering if you all knew if it was possible to swap a 300gt engine into a 1g laser? My friend has a one, and i have an extra motor, and i was curious.thanks

Hey guys!! This is my first post ever here at dsmtuners. Where I come from (bc.dsm.org) we use our real names so I decided to continue the trend here.

I too am not satified with my 135hp n/t engine and have decided to do the turbo conversion (back to the posts original topic....). I know a few people who have done the conversion and are running 7-8psi and have a pretty quick n/t-tsi All the parts listed in this post for a successful conversion, I would guess are needed if you want to run high boost similar to that of the stock tsi's, but not all the parts are needed to complete the convesion and running low boost with still enough pull to satisfy your needs. If you really want to boost as high as stock, buy a damn stock tsi!!!! Case closed. Now if you want to do something that is unique to our cars, then convert the n/t engine and run low boost with the high compression pistons, which is what I've decided to do.
Here is a list of parts that I believe are needed (notice that others mentioned are not listed) to run a decent amount of boost with reliability.

Turbo ECU
Exhuast manifold
Turbo (13g for quicker spool)
O2 Housing
Downpipe
Side Mount Intercooler, BOV, And all Piping
Knock sensor
MAS from a turbo 1g
Fuel Pressure Regulator
450cc or larger fuel injectors
boost guage
injector resistor pack
am I missing something???....it's late

The stock fuel pump can handle 9psi atleast.
One way to regulate the boost is letting up on your foot when reaching high rpms, or changing the wastegate to one from a turbo firefly or sunbird (5 or 6 psi). I'm going to go the route of a lighter foot and see how that works out.

I can't see why anyone would want to run stock tsi type boost numbers on a converted n/t engine. Its just not worth the time. A unique conversion would consist of stock internals and low boost. Just swap the engines if you want the performance of a tsi.

Anyways, I'll be starting the fuel system tuning for my conversion soon, and later putting the turbo on, and most likely coming back here as I've found some great information. So many DSM forums, so little time.

Drop me a line if you want to talk n/t - turbo conversion.

Think of it this way...I have a n/t and I want a high boost TSi, that I won't lie to you. But think about it, I want this car to last me a long time. So what would be the point of buying a turbo engine for 2500 and 'SWAPPING' EVERYTHING in the engine (internals as well). When I can buy a jdm n/t engine for 900, not change, but ADD new parts. Then convert my stock ES to run a heafty fuel system and turbo friendly set-up (TT, Boost Controller, gauge and SAFC). Why spend that extra $2500CDN on a car in which I plan on changing everything possible, when I can buy the bare minimum for the car and ADD the parts and not change them. Plus, all the parts will be new (sensors, boltons and internals) so I won't be too pre-occupied with fixing broken parts.

I hope that clears up my reasoning.

Also, I will have an extra engine when I'm done, so expect a Daily Driver being made out of it with that 13G turbo and an old turbo E/L/T body and computer. Low boost and a higher spool sounds about right...

Ok, Now for an update on my car. I got my money back from the local pepboys, that changed the rear main seal for me. (they left the car with almost no oil, overheated, then ate the number 1 piston.) The car is in my friends shop getting fixed (thank god he is back from peru). I should get it back by tomorrow or wednesday. I can't wait. I bought weisco 9:1's and egale rods to go into it, and I decided to do all the belts and timing belt right now. My VVG heads have been fixed and are going back on. I will dyno it, on thursday, or friday to see the output.

I have not finished my article yet, but still going. It is at about 20 printed pages (a complete guide to turboing a 4G63NT engine, but can be applied to any engine). Hopefully it will be done soon, but with my school schedule it is hard to find time to work on it.

I will be back soon with another update.

TimG, your right on, That type of setup, will alow a fast spool and a good amount of power. With your nt tranny, you would be able to get into the high 13's easily. Remember the nt tranny's have a higher final drive which give you a faster 0-60 engine with the added power. The other day me and my friend swap his 92 gs-t tranny with one of my spare es trannys. His car ended up maxing out sooner, but it took 0.8secs off of his 1/4mile eta. (all we need now is a 4G63nt light weight flywheel and putting the power to the ground will be better).

The only machine shops around will not do the 95+ pistons on my big rods. I had a talk over with 3 places in TO and they all told me it's to risky. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to solve the solution other then sending the block to Ohio to get it done. I'm looking into the racing pistons, but they are expensive. Do you think the JE or Weisco pistons are equal to the money of the machine shop putting on 95+ on since they aren't filing down the rods? Fuk a duck, I just need some insentive here...

I am working on a complete article that has a step by step guide to making the kit, what to do and what not to do (turbo with stock 240cc injectors ='s BOOM). And I then will make it visual. Keep lookin at this site for it (I am working with the moderators to get it up). I will keep everyone posted.

The article will list every part, no matter how small (or big) and alternatives for it along with prices (new and used, cast and forged)..

More to come!!

almost done eh?? MAN I CANT WAIT

another method to this is to simply swap in a full long block from a turbo car. this is what i did. i have so far netted a 14.5 @ 104 and a 14.02 @ 104.7 (3 bolts loose on turbo that ended up burning out the gasket) both on only 16psi.

anyone needing to ask questions can either hit me up with an e-mail or respond to the thread.

another nice thing about the conversion is that you're still paying nt insurance which kicks ass for the younger crew such as me.

I actually just bought a 6 bolt short block I'm hoping to build it into a long block with the turbo stuff and drop it in. Should make it a little simpler than adding a turbo to the nt engine with it still in the car. And I will be able to run more boost.

It is almost done. Just getting the pics together with it.

But on another note, be very careful with your tranny!!!! If you have any shifter movement, STOP DRIVING IT!. On a throw into 3rd, I split the shift fork in to 2 pieces. The tranny went real quick. So make sure not to have this happen to you. If it won't go into gear don't force it, just get it checked out. 400 for rebuild, is alot better then 1400 for new tranny!!!!!!

I'd like to install the fuel system(pump, 450 injectors, solenoids, etc), ecu, and sensors now before I the new engine is ready to go in. Will the car still be driveable or should I want to do everything at once?

do everything at once. those 450's will need the resistor pack wired in and will end up totally swamping the engine and it'll run like shite.

Laser, Save yourserlf the trouble, do everything at once. Extra fuel is good, but that much extra fuel in the NT engine, with out a fuel controller, will cause the engine to be too rich, and suck the power and life out of it.

Considering my machine shop is so damn slow and won't do as I ask them to (2G pistons on 1G rods), I've decided to start collecting parts.
So far I have...

Turbo cams
2GMAS
Turbo Oil Pan
FPR

On it's way is...
16G turbo w/ upgraded wastegate and ported housing
Boost Controller

I know it's not much but I'm picking all this stuff up for good prices, used.

The only thing which is realy a money killer is the FMIC, turbo and the machine work. Thos things just aren't my friends in terms of money taking.
