1G Supporting car by crash beams

Hey everyone,

So this may be a really dumb question, but I am looking for insight and advice. I am planning on stripping down the undercarriage of my 1g to POR15 / rust proof and am looking at ways of supporting the car without any suspension, / subframes in the car, and without supporting on the frame rails. Since I plan on stripping the existing chassis and undercoating I dont want anything on the rails or that would get in the way. Would the front and rear crash beams be capable of supporting the weight of the chassis? I mean that is how rotisseries would attach, but just wanted to hear some thoughts.

I have large jack stands that would likely be elevated on 2x10s or something to give a bit more height without compromising stability. Really just looking for ideas or advice.

They aren’t solidly mounted to the car.

Only 4 bolts hold the front on and they aren't that big or good of a fastener. I wouldn't hang my car on it for fear of those bolts bending, shearing or just breaking.

If you are removing a lot of the chassis, can you support by the subframe mounting points? If you were going to treat those areas too, you might have to do them after the rest (that is, move to some other treated support points and do the subframe mount areas last). RUST SUCKS!

Yeah I will likely have to do the subframe areas first, reinstall the subframes, then do the undercarriage / frame rails after. Was hoping to do it all in one shot, but being on jack stands looks like I will have to move them through the process.

I like @Mech Addict 's solution.. sounds like erring on the side of caution is the smart move here considering all the time you will be laying under it...

I did that entire process on jack stands. I sandblasted the entire underbody from front to back, then several coats of POR15 over it all. I did all the areas blocked by the jack stands last. Afterwards I used a brush-on undercoating by Rusfre. Lots of work, but worth the effort!
