Help dsmers . i have a question 4 u. brougth a talon tsi. the car was runnin good till today. i drove it. and i will try my best to explain to you. the car takes off by it self while spoolin even with out push the gas pedal. when shiftin from 1st gear to 2nd gear it spools up and its fine no problem what so ever. now goin from 2nd to 3rd gear. when its spooling around 3k-4k the car takes off without even pressing the gas pedal. when i hit the clucth pedal while its takeing of by itself the rpm revs to 7k-8k by itself and comes back down and everything is ok. anyidea what mite be causeing this. keepin mind if i shift before the turbo spools everything is okay. only happens when turbo starts spooling. Thanks for your help. please adivice

we need more info than that. Is the car an automatic or a manual? Have you done any work recently to the car? etc.

If the car's and automatic i would pin the problem maybe on the computer getting a wrong signal from the transmission or the shifter assembly. If the car's a manual then check the throttle body for a sticking throttle plate (IE it doesnt close all the way)

ha ha do you have a toyata gas pedal, j/k sounds like a sticking throtle plate or maybe the spring in the throtle body that thuts the plate when youe let off the gas might have broke, inspect the throtle cable and throtle body, thats where i would start, try to turn the throtle cable by hand and see if it springs back right away or just floats open with no resistance

didnt do nothing to mess the car. car started it doing it buy it-self. i will check the tb cables and rport bac tommrow. is there anyother reasion mayb the tp sensor? waste-gauge? or turbo it-self. this only happens in secound gear as turbo starts to spool and i try to shift into 3rd gear.

but no i dont sound like it has anything to do with the turbo or wastegate, it just so happen to be doing this and probably causing the turbo to spool. LOL toyota! i would check the throttle body and linkage to be sure it is properly functioning and returning to idle position. it sounds like it is sticking.

i would check to see if your cruise control is working properly.

it wont come on until about 40mph so it wont happen from 1st to 2nd.

That's incorrect, I've engaged cruise control as low as 25mph before (cops love to follow DSM's with 3" exhaust for some reason).

As for the OP problem, it's the throttle cable or it's the return spring. The only other thing that could possibly do that is the temp sensor reading -30F and throwing more fuel (choke) but it would do that ALL the time after the sensor went bad. I had a Saturn do that once and it was not fun driving to the dealership when you idle at 5 grand!:barf:

he just stated when you push in on the clutch

Toyota's system is drive by wire. Perhaps you can explain to me how a sensor sticks?

OP:Check the cruise cable and throttle cable, you can slide them for adjustment. You don't want it to be too loose nor too tight.
Perhaps clean your throttle body of carbon = helps with throttle response.

i was pretty sure it was 40 but your right its from about 25mph-124mph

but his cruise control may still be his problem, at what mph do you shift from 1st to 2nd? if its at 3-4k it might not be over 25mph.

does your problem still exist when shifting from 3rd -4th? at any rpm or throttle percentage?
