canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

im confused by how you word it. Does the car attempt to turn over or no? do all your accessories work? More info the better

theres so many possibilities. check your starter, i had same issues when i put my head on and car wouldnt turn over and it ended up being a loose wire on the starter

The car turns over and trys to run but it won't start up like starters brand new I replaced cas did nothing. The car ran fine last week I shut it off went to go home from work nothing cranked over just wouldn't start. I pull the spark plugs out there wet as hell with fuel it don't leak nothing and every clamp is tight my mods r evo big 16g turbo greddy fmic hks bov all hard piping to turbo greddy ein turbo back that's it really I need to get it running hate my gst sitting in garage

I can't believe no one has said this. Did you check for spark? If there is no spark it could be a problem with the coil, transistor pack, or ecu. If I were you I would test the coil first then the transistor pack. If it's neither of them then look into the ecu. Here's a link on how to test the coil>http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/130662-back-firing-wot-maybe-fuel-cut.html
Here is a link on how to test the transistor pack>http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-electrical-wiring/229419-how-test-power-transistors.html
Good luck!

I have no idea what that is  I'm gonna Google it.. could that be why I have no spark? What about the ecu getting no power??

That could be a very good reason you have no spark on 1g there on the side of the intake by the timing cover pretty close to the coil pack I'm guessing its in the same place on the 2g (transistor pack controls the the single to the coil pack if its not working its not getting fire). as far as the ecu not responding that could be your problem and that sucks if its fried :barf:

Having the same issue with mine. Thought it was the coils. Wrong. Thought it was the power transistor. Wrong . Tried the ecu still wrong. Ended up being the cas was off timing. This is for a 6 bolt swap not sure if it will help or not.

Hey guys its me again im back for some advice. My car wont start for some reason and it turns over. Also the car is getting fuel and spark I even tried replacing the fuel filter. Me and my dad are puzzled and I am looking for any suggestions. On top of that I have even tried swapping the ecu so please give me some suggestions.

Did you do any other prior work, btw? Any other systems? Smoke? Running rich? If you do a compression test, inspect the plugs to see if they're fouled.

Depending on how cold it is where you are at it might be the coolent temp. Sensor Just something to check.

Ok ill try the coolant temperature sensor cause it did start when it got cold out and no the only thing I did was swap turbo.

In iugrad92turbo link it tells u how to test the sensor its near the bottom. I have the same issue already replaced the sensor with an autozone one , and now its bad also going to order an oem one monday.

So i just got a 95 tsi awd running 13 pounds of boost basically every thing is stock motor wise except a fmic. i have been driveing it fine for about 2 weeks.

Then last nite comming home on it slightly and wile in boost it cut out for a second so i let off ,all seemed fine so i kept going same thing once it started to boost about 10 pounds. So i let off and about 5 blocks up the road my oil light came on and i saw my oil temp drop to zero pulled over into a parking lot. Looked and saw there was oil all under the car ect, so i rolled back and turned the car around (car was off at this point). Rolled down the road to a gas station got some oil bla bla bla it started leaking when i cranked it again so i got towed home. Turns out the oil filter and houseing with the turbo lines came loose. So i changed the oil and new filter and now she wont start .... car did not over heat. bad rings?? seems to have spark and fuel didant get to compression test it yet but any ideas or help would be appreashated.

Hard to say if your oil filter housing came loose when you were driving. You never noticed any little oil puddles under the car prior to this? The only real way you will know if your piston rings went bad is a compression test. When you say it seem's to have spark and fuel have you visually checked? You must look at all the easy things while trouble shooting before assuming something. But a compression test should be on the list.

yes you can smell fuel in the plugs and see the spark just did a compression test and its showing like >15psi? ? another thought is maybe my timing jumped ? the motor was cold during the compression test since it wont start i know there normally lower compression when not warmed up but it should still easily be 100psi cold right?

yes line up and check all your time marks.

the oil may have some way soaked the timing belt and stripped the teeth at the crank
