canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

Well I have had another setback. I was in the process of upgrading my fuel pump to a Wally 190 but my hardline ended up getting a pin size hole in it just before connecting to the oem rubber fuel line hose. I was looking into getting the STM replacement kit and just redo the whole line while I have some down time.

It was a multitude of things: the starter wasn't grounded properly, i thought i had the clutch-to-start connector disconnected, i didn't.

Or check the 80 amp alt fuse in the engine bay, or the ignition one on the battery. Could have popped a fuse while installing the starter.
edit*
Think the 2g's have a 100 amp fuse. Correct me if I am wrong, also I am not 100% sure if they have the small fuse box on the battery like the 1g's

Clicking is definitely starter related (from my experience anyways), I had my starter literally fall apart on me, the 2 bolts holding the spring and weight in fell out and nad to be replaced, but after putting the starter back together it fired right up like a champ! Make sure if you park in a grassy area to comb it with a metal detector or a strong magnet, your metal core/weight may have fell out like mine did, in the grass, and when I found it, I had no clue what it was. Good thing I saved it :thumb:

Good luck, I hope it just fell apart, starters are like 100 bucks from Autozone!! I used my starter refund money to buy 2 bolts and a new battery hehe.

Try going to the junkyard and pulling another CAS out and see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't you can always bring it back. Another thing to check is the coolant temp sensor/wiring. If it is not hooked up or faulty your car will not fire up.
Edit* Just realized that you are from Puerto, might not find any in a junk yard, haha.

You can unbolt your cas, leave your key on and spin the cas by hand. this will fire the coil pack, run the fuel pump and fire the spark plugs, I suggest unplugging the spark so you dont get a backfire situation in your cylinders, but its one way to sorta tell if the cas is bad. The other thing it could easily be is the ecu.

Good luck!

I have a 1997 gst eclipse changed starter and starter relay. Still won't start. any help ###. What could be the problem? Battery as 14.6 volts with good battery post. I'm stuck.

hey guys thanks for alll the answers. hey back here in Puerto rico we have junkyards too LOL, but more difficult to find. i found out using another cas and it sparked well, but now my problem is two injectors are not firin fuel to the cylinders. my 4 spark plug and 3rd spark plug are not even wet with fuel, but the others one had fuel on it. any other ideas?? it might be the two injectors or the resistor box????

ok guys, the car started now very fine. i really don't know what it was, but i cleaned the spark plugs very good and checked the firing order and boom!

I have a 98 gst that wount start, and I am guessing a need a new alternator because if I have it conected it blows out the alternator fuse, if its not connected then the new fuse I put in doesn't blow, but if I scratch the bolt that its supposed to connect to on the alternator it sparks, and car doesn't start, I am wondering if the alternator has to be hooked up for the car to start, if not then any ideas were else for me to check, I made sure ground is cleaned and on tight, started wire is on tight, car had the same problem before I took it apart and rebuilt it, but did turn a few times, then stoped again and now same thing but doesn't even turn, im thinking to try a diffrent starter tomorrow and to get a diffrent alternator so I wount keep on blowing fuses...

It sounds like when you stuck a wrench down there to work on the alternator you shorted the fuse out. Do not service your alternator with the battery connected.

There is a "ground" post on the alternator, make sure you haven't connected the positive to the wrong part of the alternator, that would cause your symptoms.

but to be safe, you may disconnect the alternator while you figure out why the car won't start, you do NOT need the alternator connected for the car to turn on, it will run for about an hour or so on the battery.

Also, you need to be more specific, does the car make any noise when you turn the key? if the starter isnt turning on, chances are you haven't connected the starter positive from the battery OR the signal wire. One or the other or both.

Test the starter, its easy to do without removing the car, make sure the car is out of gear.

Ok the starter doesn't make a singal sound when I turn the key, I have the alternator disconnected for now, and I just now again made sure that the positive is connected on tight and right, and also the signal wire is on too, and I cleaned out the battery and connectors with a wire brush, and were the negative meets the transmission as well, and the headlights shine bright so I know my new battery still has power, and if a starter doesn't work, does it make a noise at all?

I came out of work one day to try and start my car. It cranked healthy but didnt start. It getting fuel and the spark plugs look healthy. I noticed some blue powdery corrosion on the plug wires when i disconnected them. I am doubtful that this would be the cause. HELP ME

Well if you got fuel and spark than what you missing is compression. Get a compression tester and check it.

But most likely what you have is a minor problem since you took the car to work that day. Check the fuel pressure, spark timing, injector pules, even the gas it could be bad or contaminated, even check the gas level. (the fuel sender unit could be malfunctioning telling you that there is gas). Check all the connector such as the crank/cam position, mas air flow etc.... If everything is fine and you dont find any problems it could also be the ECU (maybe corrosion) but go from little to big first.....good luck
