Finally got around to testing the traction on Edge's new tires tonight.

Even on the 87 octane tune, a full send launch just results in all four wheels lighting up. Alas. Tire pressure IS at 35lbs though, so I'm exceedingly tempted to drop tire pressure and see if that helps. But if its that bad on 87, 93 will be like ice skating. Lol. It's not as bad as the old tires, but man this thing makes some torque and makes it immediately.

Guess I'll need to make the jump to either a $1200-$1500 set of good quality all seasons that are known for traction, or bite the bullet and go with a summer compound tire. As hypocritical as it may sound, I don't want TOO much traction. I used some street sauce up in NC when it was on the E30 tune and it spat the rear differential out and down the street because it dead hooked. Lol.

Still fun though. Extremely curious what would happen if I dropped the pressures down to something more reasonable, and put some airbags in the rear springs to stiffen it up back there...
Try continental extreme contact dsw tires.. and lower that tire pressure. I run 27 on the street

Those are next on the list after these wear out. Or Michelin AS4's(have another Edge guy who holds a record still for these vehicles that swears by these tires on his edge). But I've been itching for some Continentals.

Finished the ceiling. Hurray.

Tiles are from Rockfon mineral wool with NRC of .7, so they're helpful to control sound reflections. 5/8" minimum thickness.. but might need some weighing down after the bass comes on.

*edit* damnit, just noticed from the picture that one tile seems to have been rotated against its grain pattern. That was one of the first put in before I noticed they actually have a grain

Nice, I bought a new display for the family room but I have to retrieve it from Boulder. Sony 77A80K OLED to replace the old Panasonic 65VT50 Plasma. The current setup in the FR is only 5.2.

looks quite comfy. is that the philips hue sync you got running there?

Our main room has a Sony xbr75x900f but over the years has developed dead pixels entirely on its own. Likely not enough to trigger a warranty replacement but our 5yr warranty runs out in a month so I'll see if it qualifies beforehand. I'm not holding out hope. Besides, you can't even see them from the MLP.

besides, since we're supposed to get that reimbursed if not used, it might be more useful going elsewhere. I'll likely get the new tv from costco though.

Not an Ambilight just a OSRAM smart strip as a backlight connected to SmartThings and the Harmony Hub that makes it all pretty much Wife proof. No more cases of everything getting out of sync cause you moved the remote while it was still spitting out commands.

The new display was a impulse Costco buy. Closeout of last years largest OLED for less than I paid for a 65" the year before. I was doing some last min shopping the day before we headed back east and they had this deal that I just couldn't pass up, but it's eating me that it's sitting out west in a box and not on my wall here. :)

Got around to doing something I wanted to do for like over two years now.

So freakin stoked about this. Those two trim pieces for the last two years were $400 shipped EACH from Ford. And there were absolutely NO used pieces in ANY junkyard unless I wanted the entire $2300 sunroof assembly. Finally they dropped enough in price, and I found one used for like $150 in mint condition the guy never used/needed. This has bugged me for the entire 2 years.

But, now that I have these two pieces again that means I can never use an automatic car-wash ever again. That's why those two pieces are missing in the first place. :p

But yeah. Super minor stuff, but man...now the car is complete again.

Great tires. I was running them on my Q50 until I sold it.

Nice. I still have the VT50. Thinking of upgrading but I don't do much TV viewing these days.

Swapped out leaking KYB struts for new Monroe quick struts on my 99 RAV4. Took just over an hour to do both. I think the old ones were actually the second set I installed, and the car just rolled 150k. I started noticing a lot of rumbling and flex in the steering, and now it’s driving like a champ. Total cost und $200 from Rock Auto. Did complete rear brakes (drums, shoes, cylinders, hardware/springs) a few weeks back for under $100. I keep the car just to shuttle my Mom and her dog around, but you can’t beat this kind of low cost of ownership.

Installed a relay kit for my fuel pump for the 350z.

New walboro needed to get strong voltage straight from the battery.

Sorry no pictures... just boring wiring crap but now I get all the walboro buzzes LOL

So two NOT DSM things today.

First was home things. I bought my house late March so as the temps drop I figured I needed to do some furnace maintenance. I changed the nozzle and the oil filter. Never did it before so I was slightly nervous, but it was pretty easy.

Second is car things. We're having a little car show at work tomorrow so I decided to clean the 3000 up.

So after I got done I ordered food and took it to pick the food up. I got home and realized I forgot to make another stop while I was out, so I decided to take it again.

Well as I came to a stop on the way back the shifter felt weird. Then car wouldn't go into first. I could only get it into 4th. I managed to get it going and just kept it in 4th to get home.

Long story short a bolt fell out of the forward backward arm. I also popped off the one bushing on the shifter itself.

Got it all fixed and back together and good to go. The 2nd trip must have been destiny, otherwise I might have been trying to fix the car in the parking lot at work tomorrow.

I've gotten bit by the Toyota bug lately, picked up another MK2 Supra project and my bush bashing pickup 4x4. None of my non DSM projects are super nice like a lot of your guys tho. Maybe I just like shit boxes too much, I dunno, if its sub 1k I just cant say no.

Got 2 RA64 Celicas too along with a parts car, when the Toyota bug bites man does it bite!

I had a 82 Silver/Black Celica GT-S Liftback back in the day like the photo. The thing tried to kill me several times, too much tire for the weight. If it snowed it had a tendency to snap spin 180 and drive backward. Very exciting on the interstate! Drove it until the rear diff exploded in 86 and was replaced with a AW11 MR2 which in turn was replaced by the GSX in 91.

Cool story Steve! :thumb:

Dug out my Neon ACR from the barn after 8 years and brought it home, the mice really went to town on it in the past year. It looks a bit worse than it did when I dropped it off and it blew out the rubber fuel hose when I drove into my garage (!), but the bones are still solid and the final product should still be great. The weather stinks for working on cars, and there is a lot of work to be done, hopefully it’s ready for summer.

That's awesome, to have experienced them when they were basically new would have been something. The 22r/e is really unassuming isn't it? looking at the power specs and then how light the chassis actually are its just a pleasent surprise. Even the mk2 supra is a riot, alot like a miata in so many ways just a rev happy momentum car.
I've got an 82 p-type gts, 85 l-type gt and 85 p-type gts which is also a parts donor for the supra.
My first rwd car was an 83 p-type coupe, I over heated it in winter because the temp gauge never worked. Stopped trusting it after that and me and my best friend started jumping it until it finally broke....took 3 days to banana the unibody. Regret it looking back at it, but it made me get my 84 p-type supra I had for 8 years which I sold so I could keep my dsm.
I'd love to dabble in honda too but haven't taken the plunge yet.

No one said it had to be car related. :p

I’m on another model kit kick so I ordered a bunch of Gundam model kits (master grade. Like 7” tall bois). First up was this one. It’s super intricate and actually two in one. It can shed its armor and take another form.

So much fun. It’s so good to take time away from the internet and all the bs of life. It’s why I like building engines. Very zen for me.

This is my first post over in this thread, but I’ve been neglecting duties answering posts and stuff on here for a few weeks.

I owned a ‘17 Toyota 86 (manual, 58k miles) for a little over a year. Great little car, got looks and compliments, etc, no complaints at all from me. It was my daily driver to and from work. It wasn’t fast, it was built for curves. But, I wanted something more economical (the 86 was N/T high compression, and required 93 gas $$$).

So I sold it and got a 2010 Lancer Sportback (2.4L, not Ralliart, CVT auto, 56k miles) that’s loaded will all the factory options of that time (leather, heated seats, sunroof, Rockford sound system, etc). I already have a 2001 Montero Sport for hauling duty, and I don’t like Mitsubishi’s newer offerings (the wheels on the Mirage look too small).

The car is granny slow (a lot like my old ‘92 Galant GS auto) ROFL but it gets excellent gas mileage, looks good, and is very cushy to drive. I like it and it fits the bill.

The concern about the CVT is hanging out in the back of my mind. I don’t abuse it and the CVT fluid was changed at 50k. The auto to manual swap process for these is electrically complex (I researched), nowhere near as easy as it is for 1G DSMs (I auto to manual swapped my Galant GS way back). We will see what happens.

If anyone else has any experience with CVT performance or this era Lancer, I’m all ears. I know it’s the same as the Nissan CVT of the era. All of the forums for these cars are nowhere near as nice as what we have for our DSMs here at DSMtuners.

I’m “working on” getting used to this.

A friend of mine who is a tech at Nissan doesn't mind the CVTs if they're religiously maintained, despite their reputation. Go above & beyond with the maintenance, or you'll probably be changing it out one day.

We owned a 2016 Nissan Rogue with the cvt up until 100k and just recently traded it in on a new telluride.

I changed the trans fluid 2 times since new with the exact fluid Nissan specs for it. It was blue, I think ns-3 it was.

My mechanic friend who slaps inspection stickers for me asked every year if I’ve had trans problems yet. To his amazement I always said no. Seems he sees them regularly with issues. If Im not mistaken the telluride has a cvt as well.

I need to do more reading on the telluride though. About to be on its 2nd oil change and I like to maintain my stuff above and beyond as said above. Maybe why I never had issues with the rogue idk.
