Street Build Resurrection of the Red 90 Talon

1990 Eagle Talon TSI trying to save her life from the previous owner and its alot of work but a nice base car. My youngest son, who also races this car has nicknamed her "The Red Baron".

Hard to tell what someone's reasoning was. Is that like the "Red Ring of Death"?;) We were happy they couldn't get to the insides!!! :thumb:
The man wants his block Ford Blue.......poor Ford guys won't notice the dizzy in the BACK not the FRONT, ROFL

You gotta really chill with the Ford comments, we try dammit! I’ll have you know when Ford engineered the 3.0 v6 they figured it’d be genius to toss the distributor in the back like a GM product so our simple minds are allowed that confusion LOL.

All joking aside that’s good to know with the crank polishing technique you mentioned. I want to attempt to polish my other 6 bolt crank myself for something to do using the ol emery cloth and boot string trick, was going to try using some Brasso but I like the WD40 idea.

I don't harp on any manufacturer anymore. I used to be a die hard Chevy man, but anymore, if its FAST or COOL, it's all good with me. I have rebuilt Ford small blocks, Chrysler small blocks and Slant 6's, Chevy small blocks (No Big Blocks), Saturns and a Honda but no Toyota's (maybe they last longer) and MITSUBISHI's. I enjoyed every rebuild, even if I haven't ever seen them before (like my DD Saturn 1.9L DOHC). Just nuts and bolts to me.
The WD40 makes a good cutting oil for the emery cloth and leaves a nice finish. I use it on my 4g cranks and they turn out looking just like that SBC crank! Thanks for following along all the different stuff I/we do!

I couldn't add any more pictures to the beginning of this, but this is the carnage I was dealing with......
Quite the sight OMG

not to take away from your carnage, i think i can compete with you in the 'carnage department' after pistons kissed my valves - broken valves, smashed piston head, etc.

These aren't all of my carnage pictures but most of them. ROFL I don't have a picture of all 16 of my "special" bent head valves from 5 years ago though, it was a nasty site too. I build them, and then the boyz tear them up and the cycle repeats. :banghead:

So what you’re saying Marty is if we break basically anything, talk to you cuz you’ve probably been there? LOL

Probably so.......I've been building for 44 years but never too old to learn or try something new. This is the first time I have had a W5M33 apart....boy what a bunch of parts!

I am probably about that age to be booted or retired from service.......or just put down......:p

If I have 20 more, I'll have had a good one! ;)
Thanks for the ego boost!!!

Well I have been so "scared" to tear into my 5 speed trans for years, but thanks to our fellow members (@pauleyman and @twicks69 ) I have replaced parts and have the main part of it back together. This forum is so good about lending a hand, where else would you get that?
Nowhere.
Thanks guys! I sure appreciate you!
A few pics. I ended up having the 4 spider center dif. I always wondered if I got what I paid for.

I’m with you there Marty. Terrified of the idea! Lol

Well, dont be. It can be hard but doesn't have to be. If you have a press it sure helps! (And FRIENDS for advice and guidance) :thumb:

Thanks to the help from the members here, the 5 speed transmission is together with fresh parts. It feels great.
Just an update.
Thank you ALL :):thumb:

It seems like it's been YEARS since I could update this cars thread but I have the new clutch in, the serviced trans on and the assembly is ready for the car.
Plans are for next weekend to push the body into the shop and get it in the engine bay.
This is the car that got me into DSMs in the start.
YAY!!!!:):):)

Assembled exactly as Tim's instructed! :thumb:
Kinda exciting again.

I have the best ex. She was in town today and hung around to see the boys and she helped me move the Red 90 over to the shop while we have 65* weather. :)
She is very used to doing things like that and helped me during our 28 yrs together. She can back a 32' boat trailer into the launch, 1st stab! Quite a gal I must say.
Thanks honey!!!
Y'all never seen my other half before. It's a rarity. ;)

Well I'm too tired for a lengthy blah blah blah so today, the pictures will speak for themselves because this old dude is tired. :thumb:
It's by no means done, but getting the powertrain back in is a MAJOR accomplishment in my eyes!
More stuff to come. Thx for following!!!

She's in the air and waiting to have the @99gst_racer tube front end to go on along with the transfer case.
I bought it a few years ago, now to remember how the hell it goes on again. My '92 has the same parts, but it's hard to see under while its in the yard. :hmm::ohdamn:;)
