How do you feel about steel thrust plates? In general?
They have their place. Unsurpassed durability for race-only turbos that are given proper oil pressure and type....but not the best for an OEM turbo at all. I've seen them fail in as little as 500 miles if they're not given the proper oil type or pressure. In most cases, when oiled properly, they don't even have one trace of wear upon disassembly.

It's best to get an idea of what the customer is doing with the setup and go from there when deciding to use an aftermarket or upgraded thrust system.

There's a 11.5cm hotside on ebay. I have no idea how good it is, just make sure you get one that matches your turbine wheel.

Nice find! Could be an awesome way to sneak some more flow out of a TD05H turbine on a particular setup...and a GREAT way to complement that FP 71HTA CHRA linked above. :D

I think you guys talked me into what im going to do haha. I should be able to max out my stock fmic, fic 850's and 300 pump i have in it. The stock 8 16g is dang depressing when you get on it even after being tuned on e85.

Justin, what would you think spool times and max flow would be out of a stock housing twinscroll hx35 with a super hx40 wheel on a 2.4? Thanks

That put a smile on my face, very respectable answer. With the bigger compressor would that make it spool slower than an hx35 or would it be about the same because of the hot side? I'm trying to grasp this whole hybrid thing in my head and it's not working this late at night

I would expect it to perform similar to what a HE351 would on a DSM; I believe only a handful of guys have used the 351 on our platform, but it has made 650ish HP despite having a smaller turbine wheel and housing while using the same compressor.

Using the HX35 turbine wheel and housing with your stroker would negate any additional flow benefit versus the 351 because of the increased displacement over a 2.0.

I was reading a build yesterday.They mentioned an hx30.

I'm not needing an hx40 or even a 35..Just wondering what kinda power and spool can be had with an hx30? It looks like the comp wheel wakes up @ about 20 psi, much like the 16gs.But I dont know the wheel specs for a 30.So the 30 might be like a 20g in some areas.

Thaaaaatsss what I thought..When I'm ready I'll let you know:)

Next year I'll have my fuel system upped to feed a 20g.I got a 255 but its not installed, and I need bigger than 680s too.

You can stretch those injectors to support the airflow of a 20g/HX35 in a bolt on housing. You've got a AFPR, just adjust your base fuel pressure to 50psi (once you install your Walbro 255) and you'll stretch the injectors to a 730cc. ;)

Going fast on a budget.

Turbonetics 60:1 turbo. Bought the big shaft rebuild kit from treadstone. Exact same big shaft rebuild kit that turbonetics has on their site. everything fit fine but the bearings wtf. Shaft is 13mm diameter. Know any solution to this? I would rather just find the correct bearings than return the kit and hope for a refund. Thanks.

I'm looking for a rebuild kit for a small 16G. Is it the same kit as a regular 16G/18G/20G?
Yup.

I want to get a hx40 with a Batmowheel and bullseye t3 .70 a/r . Do I have to buy a super hx40 in order to install that wheel or can I get just any hx40?
Has to be a 7-blade 60/86mm HX40 or it won't work...that's the specific wheel it was designed to replace. Anything smaller will need machining, and the 6-blade 60/86mm HX40 wheel has a taller tip height so you run the risk of efficiency loss by switching to a BatMoWheel if you currently have a 6-blade HX40.

Welcome to every reason that I don't give a shit if I ever rebuild a Turboblownetics turbo again as long as I live. Precision's headed down the same road in terms of parts compatibility.

Almost looks like the bearings they gave you are for a standard T3 shaft. Any clue what the inside spec of the bearings that came in the kit would be?

Also, that compressor has a good bit of hooking on the blades from touching the cover- may want to buy a new compressor wheel while you're at it as a 60-1 compressor's leading edge should be perfectly straight. Actually if I were doing this job I wouldn't warranty the work unless the customer bought a new wheel just to protect myself.

How do you like the erl mani with the split collar? Ill be bolting a hx40 to it..just looking for some feedback from owners of the manifold before I buy :D

I actually just figured it out. The damn shaft is actually mushroomed at the top. Very very slightly but it is. So unfortunately they need,a new turbine shaft now as,well.

Looks like it was over-torqued at some point- I've actually saved shafts like that by getting them re-machined to the correct spec. The only thing that would potentially screw you is if the surface that the thrust collar rests against isn't flat....if this occurs, when you tighten everything down the shaft will just wobble.

It isn't flat on the thrust surface another reason why I didn't want to try and fix it. There is a small groove on the thrust surface where it was forced down. Look close and you can see it in this photo.

I just bought and hx40 on ebay. assembly number is 3595118. guy said it was a 60mm billet wheel. when I finally got it, it did appear to have a 7 blade billet wheel but when I measured it, it was 58.96mm. My question is did the hx 40 actually come with a billet 58mm wheel. I read on the holset threads that 7 blades compressor with 10 blade turbine wheel was consider the super 40.

ok thanks Justin I wasn't even thinking of that because it was a 7 blade. I just wasn't sure if I got played because my compressor housing doesn't look as big or the same as all the other 7blade housing with that v-band outlet on the compressor housing.
