For us 2g owners as well?

Sorry, wasn't thinking when I posted that about the bumper supports. Making one out of aluminum would be stronger but being the size they are to keep weight down it still won't be enough to survive much more then 5mph.

It's still better than a chopped up piece of plastic that has a very weak center section once you are through with it. I'd rather have a solid steel bar capable of taking a hit than some plastic.

Usually just the bottom needs to be cut to put the FMIC on, so you still have the cross support on the top of the beam. I am going to say that my "chopped up piece of plastic" is going to absorb more energy that a strip of aluminum.

The intention of the aluminum bumper wasn't for safety, it was to keep the fascia from flexing in the wind at high speeds when the heavy metal bumper was removed on the 1g's. Since the 2g's have a lightweight plastic one, that is easily cut, not many people would buy an aftermarket aluminum one. Pretty much only the people that don't feel like modifying something to fit, which isn't the DSM crowd at all. There would be a bigger market for that in the newer Cobalts, Chargers, Challengers, Camaros, etc. Although the Cobalt wouldn't need one since there is a 10" void between the front fascia and the core support.

A valve spring compressor similar to: Euro Export, Inc.

But a lot more basic, and cheaper because of that.
-1 piece aluminum - no polishing or coating needed
-the cup part just needs to work, not look nice

There has to be a nice solution like this that doesn't cost $70+shipping.

This can't be hard to make with a simple jig. If I had a drill press, I'd make them myself.

Has anyone ever made aftermarket rear trailing arms for the 1G? Both mine were badly worn on the wheel bearing seal bores so they could not be used, and from what I have found Mitsubishi does not make them anymore. Hopefully I am not SOL.

Bill

Light weight/ race rear crash beam 1g/2g. Dejon tool used to offer them but to my knowledge no longer do, its not on the site anymore
The one Dejon made was not a crash beam so much as it was a piece to hang the bumper cover on - it wouldn't protect the car in a 3 mph crash.

I think this is something you could get one of the fabricator vendors on our site to do... or maybe a Freelancer. Check the Freelancer section of the Classifieds to see if there are any good welders in there who could make a chromoly piece.

I made one with a big C clamp, a socket, and a grinder

Works flawlessly.

x2 but add a magnet to catch any parts thinking of flying out. Sorry it's a bad (small) picture. It's a socket with the side cut out, and a c-clamp that fits into the top of the socket. The wrench prevents the socket from rotating on the valve spring assembly and scratching it.

How about a new rear hatch that doesn't use the curved shaped glass. It would look something like a Honda Del SLOW! Another example was in the late 80 to early 90s they had something like that on the old IROC Z and TRANS AM. This would effectively lower the weight out back and give you a trunk that hides your sound systems ETC.! Maybe a integrated spoiler (located in the area above the rear seats) with a LED brake light attached on the top with a medium rectangular rear glass that's close to the back seat area. EXAMPLE:

Hatch, Camaro/Firebird 82-92 Fiberglass Rear Notchback Hatch

posted it in the fab forum and got no responses a few months ago. I dont think the crash beam thats on my car would protect me much anyway since its the only rusty thing on the car. plus the car is rarely driven anyway.

I'm almost sure they did...somewhere around 03.

That's the front, not the rear. Come to think of it, I don't know that Dejon ever made a rear one.
Oops, I completely missed the word "rear" in his post.

Yeah, I've never seen a rear support either. I'm not even sure if one is needed. I removed the bumper from the rear of my 1G and I didn't plan on putting anything back in it's place, but I haven't re-fit the bumper cover yet to see how secure it will be without the bumper.

Dejon did make one around the time i was getting my FMIC which was early '07 i believe. I know i saw it because i had to buy a front beam to fit my IC. I dont want to just take it out and not put something there for at least some support. i dont wanna have to tell someone... " Yeah the rear bumper cover is held on by ZIP TIES!"

VIS "Orignal vader hood"

I can still find those for a 1g...did they stop producing the 2g version?

How about a decently priced carbon fiber style hood for a 1ga that allows for pop ups? They seem to be getting away from these and the price just keeps going up.
