1G Oil pressure and smoke

Two question one is my oil pressure at startup is maxing out my gauge at 100psi I let it sit for like 5 min and it never came down. I have a gauge to test but was wondering where the best place to plug in the testing gauge. Next is this is the first start up after winter sitting in my garage, just did a fresh oil change. And I started it up and noticed the thermostat house was smoking and was super hot after only like 5 min idle. Could that be low coolant level or what else? U can kinda see the smoke but it’s coming from the base. Any input would be helpful

As for the high oil pressure issue, if the pressure doesn't get lowered when the oil temp gets hot, most likely the oil pressure relief valve is stuck closed. Try to clean the plunger and its sleeve wall to make it smoothly slide. And see if the pressure would get down (the green circles)
As for the overheating issue, there are several possibilities. I would inspect the thermostat first.

Wait what larger part is that?

Never mind broke out the old Haynes manual. Found it. Having a little trouble wrapping my head around the orientation of things. Is the oil pressure relief plug facing the back of the car or the front?

Is there any way to get the spring out with out removing the housing? And how many bolts on on the housing 3 or 4? In the manual it looks like three but it feels like their is a fourth under the plastic lower timing belt shield.

You don't remove the whole housing. Just take the cap/nut (#11) off. You should be able to pull everything out thru that hole that that cap/nut goes in. If it wont come out then you have issues and yes you have to pull the timing cover to remove the oil filter housing.

Yea I can’t get a socket or wrench around the nut to get it off.

Anyone know what the top sensor is on the thermostat housing my father broke it off. In his defense this car need a whole new harness all the connects totally look 30plus years old

That is a perfect picture but the link is to new cars with the different style housing. I need the sensor with the white connector. I would also like to know if I can get new connects that plug into the these sensor for both that go into the housing they are both very old and broke I can cut them off and put in new ones to go with the new sensors. I have looked on extreme psi and jnz tuning website since they are usually my go to but they only have the bottom connector. So I would ideally like to replace both sensors and the female part they plug into on the harness for both the one that is missing and the one u can see is all taped up.

Not sure if you got an answer to the above, but for future reference, on a 1G/GVR4, the sensor in the upper housing is the A/C high-temp switch.

Lower Housing:
Two Pin Sensor is the ECU Temp Sensor
Single Pin Sensor is the on that the temp gauge on the dash reads off of
The vacuum switch (two white ports on it--one is broken in your picture) is the thermo valve for emissions (EGR, Purge Canister, etc.)

As for the over-heating issue: Are the fans coming on? Did you burp the coolant system well? My guess is that you didn't burp the coolant system well enough and there is an air pocket in there.
