autometer electric oil and fuel pressure question

Sorry for the newbie question. I am trying to install an electric oil and fuel pressure gauge. The previous owner had a glowshift sandwich adapter between the oil filter and block so I screwed the sending unit in there. I ran the one wire from the sending unit to the s on the gauge, the instructions say the unit is grounded when threaded into the sandwich, I then ran ignition to wire to the "i" on the gauge, and then the ground on the gauge itself to the firewall where I sanded it down to bare medal. when I start the car, the gauge does not move, but the light works, what am I missing. For the fuel adapter that screws onto the fuel pressure relief, what fitting do I need, the one from autometer doesnt fit.
I have a 96 gs non turbo.
