Our DSM pump produces 2000 psi, But the relieve valve will open at 1500 psi, so the rack only sees 1500psi, That pump will be enough to work with our rack.

Edit.
Steering pressure is from 1,209 to 1,309 psi.
With 1,500 psi, I don't think the pressure needs to be regulated.

It's funny that about ten minutes ago I drove a Clio and thought about swapping a power steering pump out of this kind of car. I googled it and came up with this thread, haha

What does the 98-05 model pumps different to the 06-12? I work at a Renault Dealer and could get parts cheap I think.

I can'thelp but think that there's many many electric pumps for hydraulics systems out there. What are the specs that teh pumps need to adhere by on a minimum performance and maximum safety level basis?

I deal with hydraulics all the time and i want toask the guys at my local fluid power shop if they have anything that might fit the bill

Some things i'm assuming are that when retrofitted to an eclipse

1.) pump runs when the engine runs

2.)flow is one direction

3.) maximum PSI is probably 2700 or less

please help me with the rest and i'll see if i can find something cheaper to help all of us

I hope some people can help with the info, I'm sure there are a few options available that we haven't found yet. I'd like to find one soon because I'm getting to the point where I need to make a decision with the build.

- pump needs to operate on 12v power and reasonable amperage (10A to 30A I would think?)
- pump needs to be compatible with power steering fluid
- must produce between 1200 and 1300psi, would eliminate any risk of broken seals.

Here is a write up about the Toyota MRS ehps. Sounds like a more compact solution compared to the mr2 pump.

Not sure how this install is going but this website has several listed for around $140 just pay attention before ordering because sometimes it lists the 5.7 one instead.

Those are not the EHPS version for the Jeep. Check out post #23, those are pics of the Jeep EHPS that I bought and I have confirmed it by going to the Jeep dealership and looking at one on a Jeep. They didn't make the full transistion to the EHPS until very late 2011 or 2012.

dsatchell, have you installed yours yet? Just want to see if I should go the route you did or buy a used MR2 pump on eBay when I'm able to.

If you want MR2 stuff, I suggest going to the MR2 forums.

It was a while ago but I believe it was under $200 for everything (pump, ecu, silver box thingy, relay, steering sensor, etc and pig tails for all of it).

Isn't there less wires on the Renault Clio one? like the one Drew uses, or that doesn't include the controller and relay and so on, The MRS one looks very compact in fact i bought one 2 years ago after seeing it on a Honda forum but haven't instal it yet.

There looks to be a lot of Vauxhaul Astra EHPS pumps available on the UK ebay site for cheap. Wonder if they would work as well as the Clio pump.

I would not trust the Vauxhall pumps as there not very reliable! I would the Renault even though its french but ive never onown one to go wrong as much as the vauxhalls!

If they dont do shipping to the US then I could be the middle man if any of you needed a pump sent!

And remember shipping to the US is not cheap anyway

I was thought someone might be interested in an idea that I had today so I thought I would post it here.

My original idea was of course to use the EHPS to drive the steering but I also was planning to have it drive the brakes and eliminate the vacuum diaphragm by using the hydroboost from a mustang. Today I realized I could take it a step further if I could find some way to use the EHPS to drive the AC compressor.

I live in Austin Texas and not having AC is not an option. The nice thing is that you would be able to then easily increase the AC compressor speed while stuck in traffic. You could even have your AC running full blast with the motor off!!!

So I spoke with one of my friends who is a Vauxhall mechanic and he said since 2002 the pumps are alot better then they once was so you can now look at the Vauxhall pumps again, I just thought I should let you know so it does not Limit the options for you all

Visiting my local Mitsubishi dealer the other day, I noticed the Outlander uses an electric power steering pump. Since it is already a Mitsu, maybe it's worth looking into to see if it could be more easily adapted than the other options.

Idk if anyone else has looked at purely electric power steering vs an electro-hydro pump, but I have a setup that's nearly complete for my 1g. It is controlled statically currently, so set it and the assist is constant, but I'm hoping with some more research i will be able to make it speed sensitive.

Feel may be different to an extent, but I like the idea if getting rid of all the hydro lines altogether.

I'll try to get some info out once I can get it finished and installed.

I'm running an electric assisted column from a mid "00's saturn vue in my Mirage, and no issues since it's been installed, I've had it for about a year and a half now, vary responsive and cool to be able to adjust assist or shut it off altogether.

The cost of parts:

1:Saturn Vue column: price ranges from $40-$120 [I got mine for $45 at a wrecking yard]

2: The controller can be bought off of ebay for like $55.

3: A 60 amp fuse and some wiring likely $25 tops.

4: A bigger alternator not that expensive at a salvage yard $45.
4.5: almost forgot I needed a slightly longer belt for the alternator about $25 for Gates belts new.

5: I also had to pickup steering sector shafts from wrecking yards eventually I had a good combo that tied the saturn column to the mirage rack: via an 90's acura integra swivel, and a newer "05-"07 nissan maxima sector with swivel add $35.

6: I also had to make my own mounting brackets out of stock steel but it honestly was not that hard especially with the right tools about $15 for stock steel.

for around the low $200's price range [results will vary: if you happen to have some of the above parts laying around, some stuff will be free.] I had his installed and running it has a lot of assist more so then the stock power rack and it works even when the engine is off, so if your car breaks down you can still steer the car as if it's running [assuming the battery still has charge], It really is a good setup, I know we likely will have more options as time goes on, but this is what I used with awesome results for the money.

what is rack ratio on that? how many turns lock to lock? do you have link to what controller looks like? and do you hear motor in car?
